Com Viet Vietnamese Restaurant

This is another Vietnamese Restaurant in Penang apart from Ms Saigon. Com Viet is located in a secluded lane called Lintang Burmah which is just behind Kassim Mustafa in Pulau Tikus.

Place is decorated in a simple manner. So do not expect to get that cozy atmosphere like Ms Saigon. The choices on the menu is limited. There are no sets meals unlike Ms Saigon. Everything comes a dish to eat with rice, well unless you have noodles or the rolls then that is without eating rice.

Since I am crazy with Ms Saigon's Vietnamese Southern noodle -stir fried beef , I ordered the exact noodle from Com Viet. Only thins the name of the dish was different. It was called, Bun Bo Nam Bo. Since I have in mind of Ms Saigon's taste, I found this to be rather tasteless. Was quite disappointed with this.

Next dish we had was Stir Fried beef with leek and celery. This was good and tasty. Thumbs up.

Then we had the vietnamese rolls. We ordered the Fresh Spring Roll Northern Style and the Hanoi Spring Roll. Both were equally good.

Fresh Spring Roll Northern Style. It has prawns in it together with salad leaves and lots of cilantro leaves.

Hanoi Spring Roll. The rolls are deep fried. Inside there is minced meat and some vegetables.

The last dish we had was Fresh Shrimp Paste with Sugarcane. This was unique to me. Served with sheets of rice paper, you are to slice the shrimp paste, put the vegetable and wrapped it up with the rice paper. Then dip it in the sauce provided. It was excellent.

Khun Tai Restaurant

It's been a while since I constantly updated this blog. Even bumped into CK Lam the other day and she did comment why no updates. Well actually she came up to Ed and Me and asked if we were Ed and Cher. For a second there we were blank, then the word blog came in and everything came in place. It was exciting to finally meet her in person as I am one of her devoted readers. "CK Lam nice to finally meet you"

Well anyways, back to the post. It is about the Thai food restaurant called Khun Tai near Raja Uda area in the mainland. My colleagues and I did a cari makan trip there last weekend. Place is huge I must say and the atmosphere there is as if you are eating in a hut- Atap roof, bamboo chairs and table.

There were 8 adults and 3 children, and this was what we ordered.

Tom Yam Seafood
It was really red looking so I stayed away from it. Colleagues said it was good.

Below is a dish which the guy called it 'Superstar' But in the bill it is called Seafood Steamed Lemon. It consist of crabs, tiger prawns, squid and lala in a sour-garlic-ish gravy. It was superbly good and superbly pricey. This dish cost us RM 241

Superstar Dish RM 241- See how huge the prawns are!!!

Otak Otak RM 20
It came wrapped in the aluminum foil. It had alot of pieces of squid, fish, prawns and mussels in it. It was good.

Pandan Chicken
It had its own unique taste. Had a a lot of sesame seeds in it. It was good also

Steamed fish in Soy Sauce RM 162
The gravy in this dish was excellent. They even poured another bowl of this gravy for us half way through. It is not spicy, but a very strong intense taste and it is a bit sour.

Pineapple Rice RM 10
Rice was served in a Pineapple. Good food presentation. But am not sure if they recycle the pineapple. Rice was strong in spice taste.

Belanchan Rice RM 12
This was pretty good. The pork served in this dish was absolutely good.

Deep Fried Kangkung RM 6
This was disappointing. Kang Kung was just fried in batter. There were no dried shrimps or cut chilli or any garnishing with it. Was not tasty enough.

Fried Kangkong in sambal RM 6
This was normal for everyone. Besides this vegetable dish we also ordered Fried Kailan in Oyster sauce RM 8.

Below was a new dish for me. It's called Geoduck- a large edible saltwater clam. It was huge. Served raw, you are suppose to eat it with the sauce provided- Wasabi or sweet spicy sauce. I braved myself to try this out, took a slice an never took again. Had a very strong fishy taste. But my colleagues enjoyed it. I guess I am no raw food person.

This is what everyone was eating
Chicken and Cauliflower
I did not try this dish as was so busy digging in other dishes. So I do not know if this was good.

Below is the group of us pigging out that day. Another spot to add to our Eat and Enjoy Club founded by these two fella on leaft and right below. Big time Cari Makan Dudes.

Picture below is how the Geoduck looks like. It does not look appetizing at all. I cannot believe I actually ate this creature.

This is the fish which we ate. Pretty ugly looking

So with all we ate, the total damage came up to RM 684.50. Everyone's eyes opened widely. But it was a good lunch. Good place to go again if I happen to be around that area.

Porridge

This porridge place has been here for quite a while. It serves Teow Chew porridge. You can find this place along Hutton Lane in an old looking shack place. It is just around the parking entrance of New World Park. Place is usually packed during weekdays especially during lunch time.

There is quite a lot of dishes to choose from to eat with your porridge. Seriously saying this was my first time ever having porridge in this way....How did I like it??? Just say, it's not really my cup of tea for eating porridge in this manner.I find it really tasteless.

But to others especially my Dad, he loves it.

See the amount of dishes they have served

Noodle Station- E Gate

Tried out this place for lunch today- Noodle Station which can be found at E Gate. It has been here for quite awhile but I never did try it.

What amazed me here was the number of noodles they had on their menu. It took me so long to finally decide on which noodle to try out. So if you happen to be craving for noodles one day, this would be the right place to satisfy your crave. You'd probably end up having noodle dreams also.

So anyways, I finally choose a noodle dish called, Spicy Trio Noodle Soup. It had a sour kick to it but I suffered away as it was too spicy for me. "knock on my head for ordering something spicy when I cannot endure anything spicy!!"

Spicy Trio Noodle Soup

Then the second noodle dish we ordered was called Fried Spicy Noodle with Thai Style. Apparently this is the popular noodle dish here which was recommended by the waiter. It looked good and it tasted good too. Spicy-ness came from the strong pepper taste it had in it.

Fried Spicy Noodle with Thai Style

Pickled Chilli, Chilli Flakes and Chilli Sambal served on every table

As a dish dish we ordered a Seafood Croissant. It kinda had a bit too much mayonnaise in it. Kinda made me really gelak of it. They should seriously cut down on it. Looking at the pic starts giving me the shivers.

Seafood Croissant

For drinks we had an Ice Age drink and a Special Teh Tarik.
