Equinox Hi Tea - Wonderful Place Wonder Day Wonderful People

Table for twelve at Equinox - Post-R.O.M ( of my dearest sister) Hi-Tea Buffet

St Andrew's Cathedral spotted!

and of course... the landscape of Singapore!

Note that my title of this post says "Equinox Hi Tea - Wonderful Place Wonder Day Wonderful People", but i did not mention wonderful food! Well... you should know why by now, but paying for the view is totally worthy in my opinion.

Pictures named from Left to Right

Chinese Fried Rice - Ee Fu Mee - Bai Cai
Quinche - Pork & Chicken Sausages - Assorted Vegetables
Spread of Chinese cuisine - Fried Dory fish - Porridge

I only fancy the sausages.

Porridge - Chawamushi - Chocolate Fondue and Ice Cream Toppings
Desserts in glasses, cookies and Kueh Lapis - Muffins, Donuts, Puffs - Scones, sandwiches
Fruits - Tuna and Egg mayo sandwiches, Ham & Cheese, Walnut Raisin Cream - Salads

I like this part of the Buffet the most! The scones, sandwiches and salads! Scoop some melted chocolate into a bowl, and dip my sandwiches into a chocolate coated sandwich!

Pancakes - Soba - Pasta prepared on the spot
Table by the window - Assorted breads - Dim Sums

I am curious as to why they serve assorted bread but there is no soup to go along with it!? ultimate sadness! Only olive oil as dips... :(

Tada! and I had a bloody good time gorging myself with these...

Sausages and more sausages for me... Maybe i should join some sausage eating competition... lol. Olives are nice on its own... The siew mai and charsiew pau is not worth a try.

Scones, Egg Mayo sandwich. The star on this plate is that triangular looking thing on the right. That is the Raisin Walnut Cream sandwich! I Love this! i think i ate like 5 of 6 of that!

Almond Pastry, and more of that raisin walnut cream sandwich and scones!
Scones and jam ist sehr gut!

Salad DIY - just like any salad...

Bai Cai and Ee Fu Mee - More sausages... and quinche which was horribly made.

Walnut Cream Raisin Sandwich again! hhaha.... told u i like it!
Ham and Cream cheese sandwich is nice too... but it is veryyy filling...
Sushi - I only tried one piece of sushi, and i though other places have better sushis, and it is not worth more of those carbs from sushis... save it for desserts...

Seafood Salad is nice.. but darn! how can they just give one serving of it...and not refill it anymore? Its a buffet for goodness sake!
And the smoked salmon... they did not replenish that either!

DIY Mango Sorbet with nuts toppings, pistachios and chocolate crisp, and I thought this ice cream creations looks so pretty to the eyes....

Some sweet tasting dessert.... I like the crumps... which are buttery and sinful

chocolatey? Yes you are right.

And even more chocolatey... Fruits platter drizzled with chocolate sauce

oh... and that's the fruit pie at the right side... this sucks.

Goodness...

I am glad I went to the gym in the morning earlier...

But i am sad i fell sick for the next 2 days after this buffet and never workout...

There are more food varieties but are not captured by me as they are pretty common and does not interest me. E.g. Laksa and Pratas etc...

All in all... a good place for good view.

Fancy Delight - Interesting but not delightful

This cute looking tarts were spotted at the Chinese new year goodies fair at Takashimaya. There's a lot of hype over these tarts for it is very cleverly marketed... VARIETIES!

They have fruity flavours - Strawberry, Kiwi, Blueberry etc. Local Flavours - Kaya, Green Tea, Corn etc. And Chicken based - Curry Chicken, Pepper Chicken and Mushroom Chicken etc.

Very interesting right!

So i got... (Clockwise from Top Left) - Double Chocolate, Melting Chocolate, Original, Original, Original again... and lastly Banana!

Disect into half... and this is how melting chocolate looks like... I thought the egg custard could be much better... chocolate just taste like chocolate... but I don't really like the way they go together... no a perfect match....

And so was the banana egg tart... the banana is just that little slice you see at the bottom, and similarly, the egg custard was hmm.. not too good... Banana and egg tarts just don't match too...

Sorry Fancy Delight... Others might find you lovely, but not me larh... Tong Heng still owns you big time... but but... you are the innovative one...

Rojak - Soon Heng

***WALL OF FAME***

Rojak with cuttlefish @ $2.
51 on the box? That's the queue number!

I used to grow up eating Rojak from this place wat before it is relocated to HDB. Before this, this stall located at a coffee shop at Blk 177 Toa Payoh Central, where you can find the very famous goreng pisang as well. Hence, my Rojak standard bar is pretty high, and ever since then, i have yet to try any rojak that is better or on par with this.

Getting a good packet of rojak in Singapore now needs queue number too! From the "queue" (actually the queue is invisible because of the number system, and everyone gets scattered everywhere), you can more or less anticipate this stall to whip up a at least decent packet of rojak. And yes, they do whip up very nice rojak for minimum of just $2.

Why is this nice then?!?

I think making rojak really needs skill and Soon Heng has it! The prawn psate sweetness is splendid and well-balanced, and the amount of peanut bits is so generous that the whole packet is just covered with it...*slurpz*, and the "You Tiao" is very crispy as well.

Come try it and add on to their every growing Queue! lol

Training Program of Foodiegymmie

I haven't update my training programfor quite some time now... because food pictures are more interesting to most people rather than jsut a wall of text about my training log. Nevertheless, I will still briefly write about my training progression towards the upcoming marathon in May.

Chinese New Year Goodies

One week after Christmas, we had New Year. Three weeks after New Year, we have Chinese New Year! Chinese New Year is the most anticipated festive season when I was young. But as I grow older... and older.... and olderrrr... I start to find CNY house visits a hassel... Hongbaos money that seem a lot when i was young, seems to have less purchasing power now...

All the ching chong ching chong CNY music are more of a irritation (if they keep repeating and repeating) rather tham music to the ears. But one thing remains... I still love CNY goodies!

Some of my favourites would be Bak Kwas, Pineapple Tarts, Almond cookies and Egg Rolls, and all sorts of nuts!!!

So last weekend, we went to the Chinese New Year fair at Takashimaya to get some CNY goodies! I realised that the fair at taka this year is different from last year. Sample sizes of all the cookies and tarts are sooo big! They used to give samples in pathetic pieces... but now they are so generous!

After a healthy lunch and dinner, I thought...wow.. I have a very clean diet today! Who knows when i got to takashimaya... In order to get the "besttt" pineapple tarts... I went from stall to stall to try out in search of the best. After a few stalls... i am really feeling the effects of how this tiny tarts are filling me up. So in the end, by visual inspection, I only try those which i deemed worth to give it a shot... skipping stalls like Lavendar... or blabla ulu name stall.

After sampling more than a dozen... I finally reached to a verdict that the BEST pineapple tarts in TAKA square is from AMETHYST!

Pineapple Tart Balls @ $18 for 20 pieces. Note that this balls are very small... so it is actually quite expensive. They have the cheese version, which is sold at $20 for 20 pieces. The cheese one smells nice, but when you eat it... It just taste not as nice as it smell. So in the end... I got home with 2 of these.

Egg roll from Hang Heung @ $13 a tin - The samples given was baked HOT and fresh! OH man... and its so flaky and buttery that upon biting it, it just melts... very nice! So we got a tin of this, and another tin of almond cookie which also cost $13, but i do have the picture as it is sitting at my gf's home! lol.

2 more weeks to CNY! Cannot wait to open these tins up and eat them! haha. Better get in shape before CNY!!! Buffet coming up too... o_O

Cereal and Yogurt

Post Cereal and Farmers Union Yogurt
Eating Yogurt after my workout has been almost a daily affair (minus away the weekends). I eat not for its health benefits, but for I really like it! So I calculated... $2 a cup (Pink Yogurt student's cup) for 5 days a week and that comes down to $10 for yogurt a week! Gee... So I decided to save some money by buying my own Yogurt and cereal instead. hehe.

Whole Grains, Pecans, Granolas and a tiny slice of Pineapple. Mashed the whole bowl of stuffs into a mess and let it turn soggy... i like it this way! :) But Pink Yogurt is still nicer leh... This Farmers Union Yogurt taste is too sourish... What can I add to neutralise the over-powering sourish taste?!?

Expiry date is on the 25th! Think I got to eat it like every day liaos... lol.

Yogurt has a lot of health benefits... calcium, good bacteria, source of protein (and some fats of cos)... and i think there is more... i dunno liao... that's all i know!

But why do i choose this instead of other brands... which are Low Fat Yogurt. This is because, other than the fact that I like this for it has a thicker texture (not the thickest thou), Low Fat Yogurt comes at a price... Low Fat = Higher Sugar. Don't Believe? Next time when you make a trip to the market, do make an additional effort to look at the nutritional value =)
