Blueberry Bagel and Peanut Butter

I thought Donuts are bad...

but...

I got cheated! Not by someone... but by something... its this bagel!

Blueberry Bagel - from Carrefour
Otisspunkmeyer BarnStorm BAGELS

It says on the package: You want the freshest possible flavor, with the greatest possible convenience. It's not revolutionary - but it's what we learned from more than 20 years of making our Famous Otis Spunkmeyer Fresh-baked cookies

Our Product delivery squadron of Otis Spunkmeyer Barnstormer keep its flights on schedule - ensuring that only the freshest product is available to you. You'll find that same thinking behind every Otis Spunkmeyer product...from cookies to muffins to bagels. Top flight flabor. Top fligh quality.

Taste the quality in Barnstormin' Bagels TM. They're soft, chewy and loaded with flavor. Great for breakfast or lunch - anytime of day...alone, toasted with jam or cream cheese, or as terrific base for a great sandwich.

Its really very chewy, and the taste of blueberry quite strong, but very artificial.

Nutritional Value per bagel wise: not too bad
Total Fat: 1g Total Carb: 44g of which are Sugars 5g Protein: 8g

not too bad right... until... i ate one... read the ingredients... and realised it contains...

HIGH FRUCTOSE SUGAR SYRUP

geez...

what the hell is HFCS?

Fructose... Maybe Not So Natural...and Not So Safe

High-fructose corn syrup

Bagels can be healthy... look out for whole grain and those without High Fructose Corn Syrup

Bought Peanut butter again... This time round... S - for Smooth

Indeed smoother as compared to the previous chunky version, which i had a hard a very hard time spreading... so end up eating one bite of bread with one teaspoon of the chunky peanut butter.

Long Jin Cha (龙井茶) - Green Tea from Hang Zhou

Long Jing Cha - From Hang Zhou

Tannins - A group of simple and complex phenol, polyphenol, and flavonoid compounds. Produced by plants, all of the tannins are relatively resistant to digestion or fermentation. All tannins act as astringents, shrinking tissues and contracting structural proteins in the skin and mucosa.

Catechins - Catechins are a category of polyphenols. In green tea, catechins are present in significant quantities, more specifically; epicatechin (EC), epigallocatechin (EGC), epicatechin gallate (ECG) and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG makes up about 10-50% of the total catechin content and appears to be the most powerful of the catechins - with antioxidant activity about 25-100 times more potent than vitamins C and E.

Flavonoids - Flavonoids are plant pigments, and are the brightly colored chemical constituents found in most fresh fruits and vegetables. They may aid in protecting against infection. Deficiency can result in a tendency to bruise easily

Theanine - An amino acid that produces tranquilizing effects in the brain, theanine is a unique amino acid found in the leaves sencha. Theanine is quite different from the polyphenol and catechin antioxidants for which green tea is typically consumed.

"Research suggests that supplementing with green tea can raise your resting metabolic rate by 3%. In order to get this benefit you must have about about 3 glasses a day. If you have a bmr of 2000 or so that means 60 extra calories a day. Why do you see so few obese Asians. Its not the kung-fu. It's the green tea!"

Ang Mo Kio Hawker Center Yong Tau Foo

Anyway is it Yong Tau Foo or Yong Tau Hu?
im confused... can someone please enlighten me?

extracted from The Sunday Times on 24th Feb 2008
written by Thng Lay Teen

Its featured on The Sunday Times! Yes... This stall deserves some praise... but if everyone knows about this treasure... will the owner:
1) Hike his price?
2) The queue become very long, and I have to wait like 30min???
3) More customers, therefore quality drop?

kk...

Things I agree with the article:
1. Nice sweet sauce
2. Toasted sesame adds a nice touch, aesthetically as well as to the taste
3. Yellow beans are tender
4. The Soup is really good
5. Fresh
6. Deep fried items, crispy outside, tender inside
7. Should be able to get your food in 15min
8. Don't expect a service with a smile... True.. been there many times, but never see the uncle smile before... but think of it this way... He is selling his food, how to smile at every single customers? Not customer service leh...

Things I disagree with the article
1. Chili sauce that stands out
2. More than 40 types, theres a lot of variety, but i don't think theres 40... well... I will count on my next visit
3. The fried homemade pork balls are supposed to be hard... its over fried intentionally to bring out the meaty aroma
4. WHY 3 STARS??? I GIVE IT

4.2 STARS

Dear Foodies & Gymmies

Dear Foodies: Where are the food?!? You must be wondering how come I have not post any food reviews for so long... Well well... time for me to explain. School have started, and I am pretty busy juggling with assignments and projects... no time no time for good food! Everyday eat in school... nothing nice to blog about school food, therefore no food photos for you foodies! But this week is my mid term break, meaning I will be lesssss busy, and hence, I guess I will be eating more stuffs thus more reviews coming up soon! :) But in the mean time, read my post on workouts, and I hope they don't bore you...

Dear Gymmies: Good for you! I have been posting stuffs related to workouts, my training logs etc... cos I have nothing much to blog about, so I blog on my training! And yes... I am now training everyday, with no goals in mind... lol. But the release of endophines from my workouts is the reward! and of cos a healthy body... People always say, still young la, nevermind... But if you don't start now, its very difficult to start exercising out of the blue, and even harder as you gets older. I have clients who never trained for years, and I can see that its a pain for them to start from basic... so yes... start exercising now you lazy bumz out there... :P Time to "hao lian" aka "show off". Actually not really show off... cos many gymmies out there can do these too...

Yday went to gym with CH and I finally can bench press 100 kilos, but with the help of a spotter of cos... still not good enough... Without a spotter then considered as my own effort.

Today, Did deadlifts, which i just started recently only, and the more I do, the higher I get... lol. So I did my my max of 90 kilos without a spotter. I don't dare to go on any further, in case I get injured again. cheers for myself! :)

Tanita Body Fat Scale

My BodyFat %
2 weeks ago:12%
Today: 11%
=)

partially extracted from: http://www.sport-fitness-advisor.com/bodyfatscales.html

Body fat scales use a technique called Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. A small and completely harmless electrical current is passed through your body. The electrical current passes more quickly through fat free tissue like muscle than it does through fat or bone tissue. So... The amount of resistance to the electrical current relates to how much fat-free mass a person has and their body density.

Like all body fat tests, body fat scales don't actually measure your body fat percentage. They determine your body density. The examiner (or the scales) then uses a formula to calculate body fat percentage based on body density. These formulas just predict your body fat. Unfortunately there is no one formula that accurately predicts body fat for the whole population. Differences in age, gender, ethnicity, body size, and fitness level all have a significant affect on the results.

Well, whether body fat scales measure your "rue" body fat percentage or not doesn't matter!monitor changes in your body composition over time, that's all you need. Your body position, the amount of water in your body, your food intake, skin temperature and recent physical activity can all adversely affect the results of body fat scales.
As long as they can accurately

The 10 Top Tips When Buying And Using Body Fat Scales

1. Use them to measure your progress only. Don't compare your body fat percentage to tables or to your friends score. It is probably inaccurate no matter what the manufacturers say.

2. Choose body fat scales that have the right profile for you. If your children are going to use them make sure they can be calibrated for children. If you're an athlete (+10 hrs of strenuous exercise a week) same thing applies. This is important. It makes a big difference.

3. Measure out some water one hour before you test yourself. Make sure you always drink the same amount of water one hour before you test yourself.

4. Measure yourself at the same time of day for each test.

5. Your skin temperature affects the electrical current used by the scales. It's difficult but try to test yourself in a similar room temperature each time.

6. Don't test yourself after exercising. When you exercise you sweat and when you sweat you lose water. This affects your hydration levels and hence... the results.

7. Thoroughly clean the foot pads, preferably with alcohol and then dry them off each time you test.

8. Buy the most expensive body fat scales you can afford. Accuracy will almost certainly increase with price.

9. If ever you get the chance, have your body composition measured by a professional using skin fold calipers. It will give you a frame of refernece as to how accurate your scales are.

10. Read the page on body fat calipers for an alternative you could consider.

Random Post: NUS Crane collapse!

I was at NUS arts canteen having my yummy lunch - the very very famous Arts Yong Tau Foo, which I eat everday for lunch... The longest I ever queued was 45min!!! Its not the nicest in SG of cos... but the nicest is NUS... You want nicer one? Go to... The one at Ang Mo Kio Hawker... What it lacks is variety, but the sweet sauce is damn nice! Was eating halfway when I heard a loud *bamm Piang BoooooM*.

And this is what we saw...

The Crane at the construction site (For the new NUS Guild House) opposite the canteen collapsed! The red and white ting lying on the floor is the crane! Hope no one is hurt as theres a bus stop nearby and is usually very crowded during the lunch hour... Is it cos of overloading? Fatigue loading? Or just simply human error? Whatever it is... according to my Engineering Professionalism module... some Engineer who sign some paper for the project sure have to carry the responsibility... fines... jail...suspension of license... whatever... No wonder my prof told us that when we become professional engineers next time, dun ever anyhow sign papers... less responsibility, less problems... tsk tsk...

Soon the fire engine arrive... and news 93.8 reporters arrive...

Three workers killed by toppled crane at NUS worksite

Three workers were killed when a 72-tonne crane toppled at a construction site near the National University of Singapore's Arts Faculty canteen in Kent Ridge Drive, crushing and pinning two of them underneath.

Two other workers escaped with minor injuries and were sent to the nearby National University Hospital.

The incident happened at about 2.10 pm today, watched by dozens of shocked NUS students who were having lunch in the canteen.

First year NUS Business Student Toh Cheng Yi was in the vicinity when the tragedy occured.

"I was in the computer lab. All of a sudden, I heard a loud crash to the ground. At the same time, I felt some tremors too. I came out of the lab and saw the crane lying on the ground. The workers they were shocked too. They gathered around the fallen crane. "

The falling crane narrowly missed the nearby NUS Business School.

Eyewitnesses said the 60-metre crane fell onto the three workers, pinning two of them beneath, on the site where a new five-storey club house for NUS alumnus is being built.

The site is the size of two football fields.

Rescuers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force, who received the call at about 2.15 pm, took 45 minutes to extricate the two trapped workers - a Malay man, aged 47, and a 42 year old Indian man.

They had to use hydraulic spreaders and airbags to reach the two workers.

The third victim was a Chinese man aged 45.

Paramedics pronounced the three dead when they arrived.

SCDF described the operation to reach the two trapped workers as 'delicate' as the rescuers had to work through a mess of reinforced steels bars to get to them.

The cause of the accident is unknown.

One construction worker said the crane was inspected just a few days ago.

And the crane was supposed to have been dismantled in a few days time as it was no longer needed.

Police are investigating accident.

Toa Payoh Safra Gym

Today, Lunar New Year Day 2 - Went to Toa Payoh Safra Gym. Since I have been travelling to quite a number of gyms, Planet Fitness, California, Several Clubfitt gyms etc, I thought of writing a gym review, and this will be my first review on gym.

Im so glad I went today bcos i am so inspired by 2 people there whom i met... Augustine and Joan Liew. In case you dunno who they are...

this is joan's website: http://www.joanliew.com/
and this is Augustine: http://auguslee.com/

Overview of Toa Payoh Safra Gym

It measures 10,000 sq m and is the largest SAFRA’s gym. Total of 3 floors to the gym - the basement consisting a double-volume workout area with a 100-m indoor warm-up track; the second consisting the 25-pax dance studio, squash court and frontdesk.

There are two floors of changing and showering facility for both males and females, each equipped with its own jacuzzi and steam room. There is also a indoor rock wall... but so far i have no seen anyone using it, and i doubt it is in a usable condition

There are around 20 threadmills, and 20 over other cardio machines such as epileptic runner, climber, bicycle machine etc. There indoor running track are kind of obsolete as some machines are actually place on the track already.

Bench Presses are most people's favourite, and the waiting time for bench presses usually is very long. But over here, there are 4 Flat Bench Presses, 2 inclined and 1 declined bench press.

They have a cable crossover machine, seldom or never seen in clubfitt gyms.
Heaviest Dumbell is 30kg; And they sort of have a personal space for individuals to train, each person with 1 mirror... train at ur own privacy.

Overall This Gym: 4.5 /5.0

Island Creamery

Island Creamery

After hearing so many people around me saying how good how great how fantastic the ice cream over here is... i decided to "sin". Hopefully its worth the trip down and worth the sugar.

Apple Crumble and Teh-Tarik Ice Cream

The above is my orders, and 2 scoops of the above cost $4, single scoop will be $2.50. The Apple Crumple really have apples and crumbles in it, not just the taste. The Teh Tarik taste like real Teh - Tarik, just imagine frozen Teh-Tarik Ice Cream melts in your mouth into Teh - Tarik... splendid!

There are still many flavors, on top of the usual flavors like choco etc, they have other creations like Longan, Tiger Beer Sherbet, Pineapple Tart etc... Too many flavors to list down.. I wish i could eat all... but... too much sugar also not good... so peeps... keep ur sugar in check! eat once in a while only k!? :)

Wall of Pictures

They have many many picures of customers on their wall... see all the happy faces... tts what Island Creamery can do to you...! can u spot me?
