Friends

Just met a coursemate/"boss"/friend recently after at least 3 years of not meeting or contacting or messaging each other (except getting back her number via work email, haha).

It's great how we can still chat like yesteryear.

(Or that we are boring people who didn't change throughout the years? To note, my dear friend here doesn't have 3G, no Whatsapp, and of course no fb 😜 my uni Prof at least has fb 😂)

Not wanting to use the word "low maintenance" friends.. but somehow that's how most of my close-r kit, different clusters, of friends whom we meet infrequently are like. No matter how long, we are still able to connect. :)

I mean it does is good that you are always so updated about a close friend's life but is that the only aspect? I defer.

I would think trust and connection are so much more important. That includes randomly sharing bits of info, random complain session, sharing of heart, letting them into your deepest fears etc. And most importantly, connecting whenever you are communicating.

It's not about the frequency, but the quality. In the same way, I'm sure we interact way more often with our colleagues than our family/friends, but that doesn't move them up the connection scale.

Thank you all for your trust and connectivity, whenever and always when we do meet up.

#randomlife

Pa woke up from his afternoon nap, came to kitchen where I was at and saw packed food (ie bought by ma) on table.

Pa: Ma leh?
Me: Napping.
Pa: Where?
Me: Sofa.
Pa: Oh.. OK, let her sleep.
Me (in my head): That's nice.. instead of wanting to wake her up for dinner.

Then he goes back to his desk (which is quite near the sofa), and blasts some video's music from his phone, which I can clearly hear from the kitchen. -___-""""

Stress and health.

Something random I've heard over the span of these few days:

Her reportee, when aged 41, without preexisting conditions suddenly got a stroke because of overwork and lots of activities and events planning. Fortunately, she managed 99% recovery but you'd never know about relapse.

Her colleague, whom I "know" briefly, when aged 29, fainted a few times at work and outside, had surgery, lost weight, as he was swamped with lots of responsibilities and activities, just because he's a high flier.

My colleagues, varying ages, due to stress and work, had cysts (and cyst diminished when they had no stress).


It's not like I'm advocating less/no work = no stress = no illness. Things like this don't have a linear equation.
But with so many precedent case studies, I think it's timely reminder. Although we can all say to others / advise others / remind others / tell ourselves to "let go", "to take it easy", "to say NO", "health over work".. can you REALLY do it??

It's easy to say.

We can always remind ourselves to take care of ourselves. But when you're in the flow of things, like hamsters in the running wheel, how do you stop?

#gratitude

I thank the world for its vast technological advancements which made different modes of communications so readily, conveniently and economically available and accessible -- making communications anywhere and everywhere to anywhere so hassle free, without the fear of large bills. All in one cell, one card. And of course, not forgetting the development of various communicative apps that allow for phone and video calls. #gratitude

And in 2007, Skype is already so advanced a technology/computer programme, and now it's available as a handy app, with many competing apps as well. 

To think that just 3 years ago, it's still 3G-less, button / semi-touch screen functions. It felt so faraway, yet it has only been merely 3 short years. But you can't deny those phones have long shelf times -- my Sony Erisson and Nokia are still working fine (as my daily alarm), though it will cost a bomb to now find a sim card that will fit them, hahah.



The feeling of "TIME" -- so ephemeral, so fleeting. So fast, and so slow at the same time.
