I survived!

How I ended up where I am now still remains a mystery. It is one month and yes, I have survived Malacca. Well after Japan, anywhere else is a breeze. A friend asked me yesterday, “Is life in Malacca similar to Japan?” YES and NO.

YES coz’
I am staying alone
I have to think about what to have for dinner

NO coz’
I am working now and working hours are much (MUCH MUCH MUCH) better than lab hours
I have a car and I can drive to wherever (No need to walk!!)
I don’t need to do laundry because I go home during weekends
Bonding with friends and colleagues here are much easier (We speak the same language).
Looking for food is easy
I can go home (only 2 hrs drive compared to 7 hrs flight!)

Talking about Japan, I miss Japan. I really really do miss it. I miss the cool autumn breeze, the red autumn leaves, the yummy desserts, the chestnuts, the fruits, the house and my room in Oji Koen, the shopping, and of course my friends. I wonder when I will be able to make a visit back to Japan.

I guess meanwhile I will just have to enjoy Malacca instead. :-)

Dedicated by my aunt to ME

Poor Ole Fungeline

Today we went to Chilies for dinner
But clearly we made a grave error
Their service was in total disorder
And they even missed out an order

Although the food was quite tasty without a doubt
Refilling drinks was another matter
We had to wave hands around and call out
For us to catch the attention of the waiter

Poor old Angeline said she became Fungeline
(She said it’s Fungus & Angeline)
She wanted to enjoy the Chocolate Molten Cake
But all it did was gave her a heart ache

First they told her the kitchen had no power
So the dessert cannot be delivered
Then the power came back and the crises was over
But her Chocolate Molten Cake was still not served

Half an hour later the dessert was delivered to our table
But spoons were nowhere to be found
Fungeline stuck out her tongue, mimicking Gable
She wanted to eat it like a hound

Luckily spoons were finally found for us
So she got to enjoy it properly
She filled up the feedback card with gust
Hopefully their service will improve greatly

Grandma's Birthday dinner

Last Saturday, we celebrated my Grandma's 81st birthday. This is a yearly occasion whereby the whole family will gather together for dinner. Being away in Japan means that I have missed the previous birthday dinners. So this year, we have the whole family again. :)

The happy granny. :-)

The birthday cake..erm or should I say birthday jelly. Beautifully decorated with gold fishes and longevity peach.

Grandma and her great grand son.

Grandma and ME!

Choices and Decisions... DIFFICULT!

One week after bringing Maya to Melaka, I was back in Melaka. This time for a job interview.

The week before I received a call from XX company asking me to go for an interview. I had trouble trying to remember if I had actually sent in the application. Upon searching through my files, I found that the application was dated somewhere mid July. Well, since I haven't started working, no harm to go take a look at the place and to gain more experience from the interview. I was pretty lazy to actually drag my butt to Melaka but since my Aunt and Sis offered to accompany (erm, of course their main purpose was for the food and sigh-seeing) me there, I went to Melaka.

Not sure if it was a mistake or an opportunity! Within 3 hours, I filled up the application form, sat for 2 personality tests, spoke to the manager and then to the CEO and was offered the job. Which, of course explains the title of this blog.

I was suppose to start work with YY company next Monday. So I am now with a dilemma. Where should I work?

1) In KL or in Melaka?
2) Should I go for the one with better pay?
3) Accept the offer with better opportunities?
4) More stress? or less stressful job?
5) Sigh... how to choose????

Photos taken from the Melaka day trip.

HOT! HOT! Having Lychee Lemon Ice. Sour!!

Sis and I in front of the Clock Tower.

Going around Melaka in formal working clothes... darn uncomfortable!

Maya in Malaysia

2 weeks ago, my very good Japanese friend, Maya came to Malaysia for a visit. I missed spending time with her. We use to see each another almost everyday back in Japan. Complaining about lab work. Going to her house for New Year. She driving me to dinner after a hard day's work in the lab. Going on holiday together. All those wonderful memories.

I sure do hope that she had a great time here. :)

It was great seeing you again. :)

Sloth-ish

I love and enjoying being a full time sloth.

Wikipedia: Sloths move only when necessary and then very slowly: they have about half as much muscle tissue as other animals of similar weight. On the ground their maximum speed is 5 feet per minute. They mostly move at 0.5 to 1 foot per minute. Sloths are among the most somnolent animals, sleeping from 15 to 18 hours each day.

I will have to be an ant from next month onwards.

Yes, I am employed and will officially start work in September.

Hooray... I can now go shopping. I need a whole new wardrobe. :)

Birthday celebration

Celebrating birthday in Malaysia is definitely different from Japan. Here, I get to celebrate it with my family and friends (Had lunch with my best buddies. Hey women, send me the photos la!) :-)

This year, it wasn't the normal dinner and birthday cake but something rather unusual because my uncle came back from Australia.

We had gambling tables up at home. The youngest gambler being 8 and the oldest gambler at 80!!

My cousin, Krystal who speaks perfect Australian english. But don't you dare scold her in cantonese or mandarin because she speaks perfect cantonese and understands mandarin.

The extraodinary dish for dinner. This "choy keok" is normally prepared during Chinese New Year from leftover food and meat. I have not had this dish for over 3 years now so it was a fabulous and yummy dinner. :b This specially prepared dish is obviously not made from leftovers and mum had to buy expensive vegetable and meat to get this done. *burp*

Just yummilicous!

And of course during birthdays, we get to blow the candles and cut the birthday cake.

Making a wish and blowing the candles... count the candles!! Damn, I am OLD!

And a lil' surprise. Blue roses from "who else la.."

Blue roses from last year.. Who is "Who else lar.."?

A year older, a year wiser

perhaps not.. wringklier maybe!

I was supposed to be borned on the 7th of July many many many years ago. My mum choose the auspicious 0707 but I came 9 hrs late. I guess I must have made mum suffer for very long hours because she was already in the hospital on 0707. However, she didn't get to see me till the morning of 8th of July. Else, I will be celebrating my birthday on 070707!!!! Bad timing.... but anyhow today, I will still be a year older maybe not a year wiser though. :p

The COLOUR CODE - A New Way to See Yourself, Your Relationships, and Life by Taylor Hartman.

Staying at home for a long period of time doing nothing can be boring. To kill time, I sometimes read. I found the COLOUR CODE somewhat interesting and was analysing myself.

I did the test online and found that my basic colour is RED but after doing the test in the book, I found that my basic colour is actually BLUE but my secondary colour is RED. I am a very strong BLUE and RED (very close score between the two).

A paragraph from the book I found very true

"The most difficult colour combination within one individual is the mixture of RED and BLUE. If you are strong in both categories, you will often find yourself stepping on someone's toes to get a tast completed (Red), but feeling guilty afterward for making that person unhappy (Blue)."

Just so that you get to know me better, here are the qualities of the BLUES and REDS:

BLUES: THE DO-GOODERS

Emotional and Admired
Committed and Loyal
Perfectionist
Highly Demanding
Self-disciplined and Stable
Self-sacrificing and Nurturing
Unforgiving and resentful
Worried and Guilty
Appropriate and Sincere
Purposeful and Dedicated
Moody and Complex
Self-righteous and Insecure

RED: THE POWER WIELDERS

Active and Productive
Visionary
Insensitive and selfish
"King of the Jungle"
Demanding and Critical
Insecure
Must be Right
Competitive and Bold
Tenacious and Taxing
Assertive and Determined
Disagreeable
Resourceful and Self-reliant
Relentless and Impatient
Calculating and manipulative
Lact Intimacy Orientation

"Blues with strong Red secondary
experience the most difficult internal struggles.
They are also typically
the most resourceful of personalities"

How very interesting yet true. :) What colour are you?

Durian Season

Last Saturday I accompanied dad to Muar. We went on a 2 hours drive to get our favourite DURIAN. It was indeed worth the long drive as we came home with almost 100 kgs of the thorny king of fruits. Eating durian in the orchard itself was a brand new experience and an extremely good one I would say.

The price of 1 durian in Japan is equivalent to 100 kgs of durian here in Malaysia. Shocking!!

I am now a satisfied girl..:) :) *BURP*

Celebrations!!

Happy Birthday to my Dearest Mummy.

Come May and June every year, my sisters and I will be scratching our heads trying to figure out what to get for Mum and Dad. Dad's birthday is usually a week after Mother's day and Mum's birthday is normally one week before Father's day.

Photos taken during these celebrations for the past 3 years lack something... ME. This year, I am able to celebrate all these meaningful occasions again. But thinking about what presents to give? what cake to buy? how to celebrate? is a real HEADACHE.

Today, my mum is a year wiser. I will not reveal her age here (but you can count from the candles.. hehe). "Belanja-ed" mum to a nice dinner of HUGE CRAB last saturday and bought her a HUGE Mocha Walnut cake from Secret Recipe. The cake was pretty good and not very sweet.

Celebrated Mother's day and Daddy's Birthday in Turkey. No photos cause dad was clad in pyjamas while blowing the candles.

Got mum one of her favourite perfumes, Baby Doll from YSL for Mother's Day.

OK, three down, one more to go.. Father's Day next weekend... hmmmmmmm??!! HEADACHE but FUN to be around again. :):)

Istanbul, Turkey

The internet here in Malaysia is damn slow. I usually give up half way through the photo loading process and that explains the lack of updates.

Anyway, back to Istanbul, Turkey. I will let the photos do the talking. Don't want to bore you with the history and backgroud. Just enjoy the beauty of Turkey through the photos.

ISTANBUL - from the window of the bus. My first impression of Turkey: clean, modern, beautiful, magnificent - A VERY VERY NICE PLACE.

Upon arrival, we went to get a glimpse of The Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmed Camii). Visited the mosque the following morning as it was already closed by the time we reached.

Outside the mosque (basically everywhere around Istanbul), we saw people selling this donut-shaped bread known as "simit" if I am not mistaken. Looks delicious..at only 0.5 TLR (turkish lira) about RM 1.40

But first bite felt like biting a piece of rock. I guess eating it with a cup of turkish coffee will be alot better. The taste was okay.

The beautiful Ayasofya opposite the Blue Mosque. We also visited this place the following morning.

Our main destination that evening was the Topkapi Palace about 5 minutes walk from Ayasofya. Completed in 1465, it served as the administrative center of the Ottoman Empire from 1465 to 1853.

Located between the Golden Horn and the Sea of Marmara, the palace has a splendid view of the Bosphorus (Istanbul Strait).

At night, we went for belly dancing dinner. Man, those pretty girls can really shake their belly.

We also saw some folk dance. Impressive...

First day in Istanbul was enough to leave an impact. Just beautiful. Coming up next - More on Blue Mosque, Ayasofya and also the Grand Bazaar. (Just give me some time ok.. it is really frustrating that the internet here is so so so slooooooow)

Dead Sea, Jordan

The Dead Sea, is a lake between Jordan and Israel. 11 days ago, I went on a trip to Jordan and then to Turkey. Finally arrived back home yesterday night. It was a great trip. :) Being jobless and without much to do at home, I will try to update my blog with pictures taken from Turkey.

First leg of the journey was an overnight transit at Amman, Jordan. We arrived at the Queen Alia International Airport at 4.30am and was ushered to the transit hotel next to the airport before proceeding to Dead Sea.

The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth at 390 M below sea level.

The Dead Sea area has become a major center for health research and therapy. There are many hotels with private health centers next to the lake.

The lake has very high salinity (about 40% of salt) and therefore one can float with ease. Can you lie down on water? Yes, at Dead Sea.

Although the lake is popular for its ability to heal skin diseases, I felt more itchy after soaking in it. Guess what? I am now scratching my legs and I think I need anti histamines. Hmm, maybe I need long term treatment at Dead Sea.

After Dead Sea, we went back to the hotel for lunch before heading for a city tour to Amman city. Amman is a pretty nice city with buildings of the same colour. All buildings and houses in Jordan are made from lime stones and I guess there isn't any paint company in Jordan because they don't paint the buildings.

May I present to you the new spider girl! Limestones...

Lastly, a photo of me with Amman city at the back.

We also went shopping at a huge mall in Jordan called Mecca Mall before going back to the hotel. We had buffet dinner (If anyone of you plan to go to Jordan, please bring cup noodles!) before going to bed.

Next stop: Istanbul, Turkey
