Chews the Right

Doug took Kamryn to spend her money at the store on Saturday. She came home with a huge bag of candy that had bubble gum in it. I told him that our children are not allowed to have gum because I always find it in places it does not belong. He said they will be fine and I shut my mouth. On Sunday I had a bad headache and so I left church early. (Thanks Jennifer for taking over the music for me). When Doug came home he was so mad at the kids. Apparently during Sacrament Meeting Derrik put gum in Kamryn's hair. He said he just lost it and let Derrik have an ear full in the hallway. I asked why my 10 year old son, who should know better, did it and he said it was because Kamryn put her gum in his ear. So my daughter spent all of church with a HUGE wad of gum tangled up in her hair for the remainder of church. Peanut Butter took most of it out. I did have to rip out some. Goes to show I am always right and I did say I told you so to my husband who by the way has banded all gum from our house.

Doug's Elk Hunt

After 10 years of waiting Doug finally got drawn to go hunting for Elk. It was an archery hunt so it was pretty tough. Unit 1 up by Eagar. He had a lot of fun. Unfortunately Derrik was back in school when he finally did get it.
We now have some yummy meat in our freezer to eat. Yes elk meat is real good. When Doug was cutting it up he said he almost didn't have to use a knife it was so tender. Very lean healthy meat to eat.

Kamryn would have loved to go. Maybe next year. I don't share their love for hunting, but I do like to eat it.

Medical Mystery

When I was little I had strep throat all the time. At least 5 times a year. At that time it was not popular to get them removed so when I was 19 I finally found a Dr to do it. Only have had strep 2 times since. Well over the past 3 months I have had stomach pain and pain in my chest and ovaries. Today I went to get an upper Endoscope done to see what was going on inside. Well they still don't know however the Dr. says 1 tonsil is huge. Apparently one has grown back. Have you ever heard of such a thing?
Actual picture. Sorry if this grosses you out. I found it fascinating they can print these out and give them to you right after.
They said I have gastritis but they don't know why. They took samples. Now I am going to go to a food allergist (anyone know of a good one?) and a ENT for that tonsil. It so far back you can only see it with the scope. I love this Gastro Dr. Dr. Patel is his name. I have a great ENT but now I need a food allergist. Preferably close.

Not funny Mom

Sunday we got a call from Derrik's Primary teacher wanting to know if I could substitute his class. I said yes and hung up. I told Derrik I was going to teach his class and he just got irritated. I asked why and he said that I was so embarrassing. I asked why and he told me "Mom I hate it when you say all those dumb jokes. It might have been funny when you were a kid but they aren't now." He didn't want me to teach. I told him I needed to help out his teacher and he had no choice. So I told my friend Jennifer about it. After Sacrament Jennifer's husband hands me this paper that says Carson's (her son) Jokes on it. He made me a list so I could tell it to Derrik's class. I started out the class with a joke and Derrik was mortified and said "Mom I thought we talked about this!" The kids loved it and wanted to do it for the whole class (I didn't). He then thought maybe it wasn't so bad. You never know what Mom's can do.

Now this is an embarrassing photo!

The other night I was walking into the store and Derrik was with me. He was behind and it was dark so I instinctively reached for his hand to hold it and he was so embarrassed. He did not want to hold my hand. This is the first time he has done this. What happen to my little boy? It makes me kinda sad.

Kamryn's Baptism Day

I have made one of these videos for each one of my kids. They love to look at themselves. I am hoping it will help them to remember all the good things and maybe forget things that weren't quite as good. It takes about 10 seconds to get started because of the menu page but it does play.

Kamryn's Baptism Day

Today was Kamryn's most important day of her life so far. She decided to be baptised a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Our Stake does baptisms by the Stake and our Ward was in charge. Since Kamryn was the only one getting baptized in our ward we got to do everything. Kamryn was even more lucky in the fact that her cousin Kayla was baptised with her. It was a special day she will never forget. She had her cousin Kaeli play the piano, I led the music. Her Aunt Katrina (Kayla's mom) gave the opening prayer, Aunt Bobbie gave a great Baptism Talk and likened it to coloring on the walls. Grannie Slade gave the Holy Ghost talk and used an empty can and a full can as an example of what the Holy Ghost can do to strengthen us. Her Dad baptised her with her Grandad Nelson and Grandad Slade as witnesses. Her dad Confirmed her with her Uncle Brian, Dad, Both Grandads, and President Derrick. Granny Nelson (who made her beautiful dress, in 1 day) gave the closing prayer. Kamryn had so many friends and family there to support her. Afterwards we had a great lunch thanks to many.

My new day job

Every other week on the days I don't work I get to watch my 2 year old neice Seneca. She is SOOOO cute. I love it. We get her before the kids go to school. They love to be with her since she did live with us for 9 months. They have missed her. She can get them to do anything. This morning I came across this scene.

I heard her demand from Derrik "Paint my toes pretty Derrik". He doesn't even think about it. He just does it. He would never have done that for one of his sisters. I think I am going to teach Seneca how to say "Clean your room" to my kids.

Another Milestone at the Slade House

How in the world did my oldest daughter get to be so old? It just seemed like yesterday when she was born. We were living in Central when I got pregnant with Sadie. We had been married for only just over a year. I was working as the Computer Teacher at Safford Middle School. I was so sick that I had to quit. I also got homesick and so we moved back to Eagar in June of 96. We lived in a really old pioneer house that was free so we took it. I got Preclamcia and had to stay off my feet a lot at the end. When it came time to have Sadie I had to be induced. After a quick labor (1 hour) (no epidural) and after pushing for a long time, Sadie got stuck. The doctor had to put those screw in monitors on her head and get her out ASAP with an emergency C-Section. Then I had to be knocked out because I was feeling them stitch me up. When I woke up I really was hurting. I was only able to hold her for a short while. After a very long week in the hospital I was able to come home. Sadie looked so perfect and everyone would comment on her perfect features. She hardly ever cried (except at night when I was trying to sleep) and was so good for us. Sadie has always been our little mother and peacemaker. We are so proud of her and glad she chose us as parents. Sadie turned 12 yesterday. She is now officially old enough for so many things. In our house makeup gets to be started when they turn 12. She was so excited for this day to come. In the morning before school we had a skin care lesson and I put on her make up. She changed her outfit 3 times. For lunch we went to Long John Silvers and had some popcorn shrimp. After school we both went on a little shopping trip and bought all the goods. She was already so pretty but now she looks older and pretty. She has Tori and Rori over to help her make her own birthday cake and for some movies and pizza. I just can't believe she is old enough for Young Women's now. I remember when I was her age. I think she had a great day. Happy Birthday Sadie.

My Baby Turned 8

What a weird feeling to have your last child turn 8. It is like it is a finally to their 1st stage of childhood or something.

When Kamryn was born we had just moved to The Valley. Doug was working a whole bunch and I had no friends and it was in the middle of the summer. We moved here in June from Eagar. So hot. I was preterm laboring with Kamryn. 75% Effaced and dilated to a 4. She wasn't due till September 28th. Small apartment with a 3 year old and a 2 year old. It was a hard time for us. I was so happy when Doc said we could let her come. When it was time to let her come she didn't want to and I ended up getting induces. She had the cord around her neck. Thank goodness we had a super Doctor and he saved her life. We are sure glad to have our Happy Little Kamryn. Despite the fact that she cried every single second of her life for a full year. I think she got it all out because most of the time she is now very happy.
Kamyn's breakfast choice was a waffle with sprinkles. Yummy.

Kamryn wore a Birthday Girl badge and had me braid her hair like a crown for the big day. She was so excited she woke up at 5 AM.

We always take our kids out for lunch for their birthdays. Kamryn wanted to go to Wendy's so she could get a backed potato and a frosty. We were joined by little Miss Seneca, my niece.

Then we were off to get her ears pierced. She was nervous but very excited. It is a tradition in our family to do it when the girls turn 8 so they will have pretty earrings in for the big baptism day. I did it when I was 8 as well. This is the picture before the sales person came to help us.

She started getting really nervous when the lady put the dots on her ears for placement.

Kamryn wanted her to just sit for a minute while she tried to get brave enough. Tears where flowing.

They had to call in reinforcements. We had 6 employees trying to talk her into it. She really wanted to do it but she was so chicken.

After the trauma was over I asked her to give a big smile for the camera with her new earrings. This was all she could muster. Doesn't she look pretty. It took her awhile before she thought it was worth it. I don't think I need to worry about multiple piercings with Kamryn.

For dinner she wanted "Bird Wings" (chicken wings). She dressed up for the occasion.

For dessert she helped mom make 3 pies and invited Grandad and Granny Slade and a few of her cousins that came into town over. We ran out of candles so we used the 7 and 8.
She wanted her earings, and she also wanted a Bebe gun. She also got some Playdo. I love it when they want easy stuff.

To end our great day Kamryn serenaded us with song and dance with her "Chachacha outfit".

To top it all off she lost a tooth and got 2 bucks from the Tooth Fairy. What a great day.
