Black is beautiful

Using the triangle rule to compose a macro zoom of the keys of the flute. Focusing on detailing while playing with the lighting of back and front light. The idea of using a flute as the subject metal is because of its clear reflected brass material.

With reflected surfaces, light bounces off when it hits on the flute.
It also brings out the little grove lines on the key itself.

The positioning of light source and object matter shows where the shadow would go. For front lighting, shadows are not as sharp as back lighting. However, grove lines are shown clearer than back lighting.

all red!

can you shoot this too?
with red sign board, red windows, red man, red "01" sec and red light ;)

The decisive moment

Using rule of thirds vertically, the main character is in the middle of the thirds, sliding down a covered slide at a playground. Tunnel slide is "chosen" because the effect of lighting through tunnel can speak better than one that is not covered. The idea of playing back and front light: Shooting at the end of a tunnel slide, leaving back light from the start of a tunnel.

*To me, capturing decisive moment with kids are best at expressing emotions. Capturing their playful moments in black and white will mark a smile on my face when flashing back the time when I spend time with my dear niece. The shot of this decisive moment is all about capturing happy moments and putting them as memories in photos. *

Again, With the use of rule of thirds, character is on the right side and
the candy floss appears one the left, leaving the center, a negative space.

*Its finger-licking good! haha! To capture an action that kids ALWAYS love to do is interesting in a sense that it depicts what we could see in all kids - innocent. Licking finger is a natural behavior in kids. They are innocent in a sense that they would not think much if their hands are clean or not. What is in their mind is that their hands have "contaminated" with their favorite food! Kids are still kids. They just love to lick. (or suck in this case. haha!) "

*At the Singapore River, our SP canoe polo club members are in the game of competition! The game was very aggressive and lots and snatching ball, over-turning of canoe boats, defending and guarding the goal post, passing of ball to team mates, rolling their canoe boats, etc. Caught this very moment of this guy almost hit by the pedal of his opponent! He avoided the pedal and trying to balance himself!*

The splashing of waters and light waves plays a role in determining the speed and direction of their boats.

*This is a candid shot. Was doing site analysis of shophouses in Chinatown, while documenting the window frames, a middle-age auntie walked pass and peep at what I am doing. It wasn't a post-shot. It was a coincidence that she peep through my camera lens while the shutter closed at the very moment.*

The diagonal approach of tilting the camera slightly 45 degrees to the right creates a different angle of view towards the photo. With the camera tilted, this candid shot cuts away the body of the character leaving only the expression on her face. Her expression shows curiosity.

Architecture of Day and Night

This is a chapel in Church of St Mary of the Angels, designed by the WOHA Architects.
It becomes a big "lantern" when the whole building is lighted up at night. The interior light flickers through the timber panels and it seems like it is floating.

Rules applied:

Leading Lines
Using the cross as the guideline to lead the viewer's up to the infinity sky which also shows a kind of respect to Jesus Christ.

Rhythm
The randomness of the small little openings creates a rhythmic lightness of the building

This is a transitional space in the church.
It connects people who come from the outside to this semi-enclosed shelter space and make their way to the hall for prayers, entrance being right at the end of the transition space.
It mentality calms down the soul of fellow prayer mates before they enter the holy space.

Interesting light effects and shadow cast on the ceiling and at the side of the columns gives it a very homely and warmly feeling.

Rules appiled:

Leading Lines

The grove lines of the tiles on floor and the columns lead our attention towards the entrance of the hall.

This is ME ME ME

This is me, all day dreaming. When being alone, i will be in deep thoughts... ... ... that carrys me out from the society.

Rules applied:

Depth of Field
Focusing on other object like this, the cactus, leaving the background blurred.
It thus expressed the "me" living in my own world with full of thoughts floating in the air. The cactus was also there to add a little color to the photograph.

Rule of Thirds
The table being the one third of the horizontal axis and the cactus positioned at the center of two-third vertical axis.

I am a visual person. Colors appeals to me very much.
Instead of arranging these library books according to code number, i re-arranged them according to colors and heights, thus, being an organised person too.

Rules applied:

Rhythm
The heights of these library books from tall to short and vice versa, creates a rhythmic movement of the colors, looking as though they are animated. Thus, it brings out the liveliness of colors too.

Depth of Field
Yes, this time round, the focus is on me instead of the books.
Now that i am an organised person, the depth of field cannot be like the previous one. It might bring out the wrong idea that im not certain of myself, and so how could i be an organise person?

Lines, Colours, Light
rhythmic lines from the height of the books, warm colors to cool colors, shadow that cast on the books and some natural back lighting from the background are some of the considerations before the shutter button is pressed down.

dancing waters

Waves and curves... are the main design elements of the VivoCity, designed by a Japanese Architect, Toyo Ito. The language is further expressed with the idea of dancing water, it enhances the design idea of fluidity throughout the interior and the exterior.
