Spring is the time for babies!

So, just last week I held my friend's tiny 5 lb 6 oz beautiful newborn baby girl.  :o)  So fun!  I have also enjoyed time spent with my other friend's baby girl who was born a little over 2 months ago.  Also fun!!

Well, the birds are also having babies and I've had tons of fun watching some eaglets (baby eagles) hatch via a webcam.  Here's the link:  http://www.alcoa.com/locations/usa_davenport/en/info_page/eaglecam.asp

My Mom got me hooked on keeping tabs on them throughout the day; the eagles are in a nest that's just across the Mississippi River from where my parents currently live.  It has been super fun to watch the mommy and daddy eagle feed the little eaglet that's hatched so far and to watch the mommy so carefully watch over her babies.  :o)

I was so excited to log on to day to find a crack in the 2nd egg!  Yay!!!  Almost time to see another eaglet!  So fun to watch the egg wiggle every one in awhile while the new baby figures out how to get outta that egg.  :o)

Fun stuff!

Happy spring!!!

The more I get to know myself...

...the more I realize just how WEIRD I am.  But, weird or not, it's so way me!  :o)

For example,

  • I kick off nearly every work day by listening to an Air Supply song.
  • I've found that I over-use the word “ridiculous”.
  • My favorite sandwich is peanut butter with Miracle Whip and Lay’s potato chips.  (I don’t find this weird at all, but most people I tell think it’s weird.)
  • I would rather clean 10 toilets AND fold the clean load of whites than weed one small flower bed.
  • I have an aversion for anything dirty, slimy, sticky, or messy.  (I have been known to make exceptions for cute kids ;o)
  • I HATE glitter.  (I refuse to open Christmas cards that have glitter on them.  Luckily I have Dave to screen them for me before I accidentally taint myself with those horrible shiny pieces of annoyance.)
  • I no longer eat chocolate.  (except for a very occasional piece of white chocolate)
  • I can’t stand it when people have one kind of drink in their glass, finish, decide they want something different, and use the same glass for the 2nd beverage of choice.  Even if they “rinse” the cup out.  Just get a new cup, will ya?!?
  • I love grapes!  White, red, whatever.  However, I will not eat raisins or anything that has ever come in contact with a raisin.  I prefer to not even smell raisins.
  • I am a creature of habit.  I thrive on routines and feel very comfortable doing pretty much the same things most days.  I occasionally force myself to be “spontaneous” by driving a slightly different way home or walking down a different hallway at work.  But only once in awhile.  :o)
  • I am terrified of dogs.  Even hearing barking or the tinkling of their collars makes me very nervous.
  • My eyes are blue most of the time, but occasionally change to green.
  • I have a hard time with most “used” things.   Clothes, appliances, electronics, cars, etc.  I guess I’m a snob ‘cause I prefer (and only feel completely comfortable with) brand new.  I need to get over this!
  • I do not share pillows.  (The first time Dave put his head on my pillow after we were married, I had a silent panic attack.  He is now the ONLY one who can touch it besides me.  :o)
  • What’s the opposite of green?  That’s what color my thumb is.  I’ll admit it:  My name is Darah and I am a plant-killer.
  • I love, love, love to edit/proofread papers!
  • My 2nd favorite movie is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the older, Gene Wilder version).   Even I think that’s weird!
  • I’m a tad OCD about the floor towel/mat in the bathroom.  It must be put down with the same side touching the floor each morning.  Then hung up the exact same way after showers.  Etc.  (Just ask Dave :o)
  • I love cheesecake!  The weird thing is, I prefer it plain.  No extra flavors or toppings at all.  Just the cheesecake :o)
  • I line the bathroom trash can with only WHITE plastic bags and will more than likely change it out if I see that someone used a different color bag, even if there’s not even any trash in it yet.
  • I have never really been to the beach and don’t really care if ever have a “typical” beach experience or not.  Not really my idea of a fun time.  Super weird.  I know…
  • My nose is an over-achiever, giving me a ridiculously super-sensitive, keen sense of smell.
That's enough, I think you get the point.  :o)  Thanks to all of you who still love and accept me even with all my weirdness!

P.S.  Look forward to a long-overdue blog post about the fun I had with my family a couple of weeks ago!  Hopefully by this weekend I'll have it posted!
