i need

I feel needy today.

And the one thing I need more than anything else at this moment is a hug.

A hug from my Mom or sisters.    I miss them like crazy!!!!!!

Please don't come to incorrect conclusions; I am madly in love with Dave and we have a fabulous relationship and he makes me so way happy!  :o)

But, you must admit that there's a special relationship that develops between a Mom and her daughters that just isn't the same as a relationship with a spouse.

That said, back to the point.

I MISS MY MOM AND SISTERS!!!!!  A LOT!!!!  MORE THAN A LOT!!!!

I am so, so, so way grateful to be a part of (and loved by) such a wonderful family!!!

2nd Honeymoon, Part 2

I really need to make time to get these blogs posts done sooner after they happen so I don't forget stuff!

Anyway, here's a continuation of our relaxing trip to Tennessee  :o)

On Thursday, we decided to tour downtown Gatlinburg and do some of the more "touristy" things Gatlinburg has to offer.  After finding parking, our first stop was the Hollywood Star Cars Museum.  We were the only people in the museum so it was nice to go at our own pace and take whatever pictures we wanted.  On our way back through to the exit, we ran into more people so we must've beat the rush.

Here are some pictures I took:

It's Herbie!

If you look closely, you can see Bumblebee from Transformers.

from one of Dave's favorite movies:  Ghost Rider.

It's Doc Brown and his famous Delorean!

props from the movies

more props; recognize any of them??

From one of Dad's favorite shows!

this is the sign that's in the window; pretty cool!  Oh, and I saw the autograph with my own eyes  lol
one of Michael Jackson's cars

There were more cars/vehicles:  M.A.S.H., Jurassic Park, Dolly Parton, Beach Boys, Jimmy Stewart, etc.  (I'm just tired of downloading pictures!  ;o)  It was pretty cool, though.

On our way to the Guinness Book of World Records Museum, we passed the Ripley's Candy Factory.  Reminded me of a place Tamara would love:  walls and walls lined with colorful candy  :o)

One of the records that has been set made me think about Bryan.  Maybe he could try to beat it??  lol

largest collection of gnomes; crazy!
There was an exhibit listing records that dealt with traffic tickets, car accidents, etc.  Dave said, "Hey!  That's a door off a VW bug!"  What the?!  How in the world would anyone be able to tell that?!  Dave can.  :o)

For lunch, we went to the Hard Rock Cafe.  I'd never been to one, so that was kinda fun.  Dave kept with his tradition and bought a t-shirt :o)  Oh, and so you don't think he only bought himself souvenirs, he bought be a cute royal blue purse with my name embroidered on it!  He's such a sweetheart!

After lunch, we went to the Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum.  It is a collection of thousands and thousands and thousands of salt and pepper shakers of various shapes, sizes, and colors.  It was pretty neat.  Here are some pictures.  Keep in mind that this is a very, very small sampling of the collection that we saw.

made me think of you, Mom & Dad  ;o)

i like these!

appropriate for Atlanta

brought back Germany memories

one of my favorites  :o)

what is this?!?

i love, love, love the conversation hearts!

interesting.

not the most appetizing to have sitting on your table...

Mom, this one's for you!

Jennifer, if they had some for sale this would be your birthday present from us  LOL

Holland!  They had a bunch of windmills, too!

We did a lot of walking on Thursday!  It was nice, but it was even nicer to return to our hotel room and relax in the jacuzzi tub  :o)  What a vacation!

Still to be continued....

2nd Honeymoon, Part 1

Dave and I went to Tennessee this past weekend to get away and celebrate our 2nd Anniversary (which was actually in June).  It was a super fun 4 days with my handsome love!  Dave mentioned today that it's cool that we spent like 5 whole days together and we still want to be with each other all the time and love each other so much.  It must so way be true love.  :o)

We slept in a bit on Wednesday, packed, loaded up the car, and began our 4-hour-ish journey to the Great Smokey Mountain area of Tennessee (Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge area).

We were a little nervous because about 10 minutes into our drive, we came to a stop.  Just like this:

Agh!  What a way to start a vacation....  However, we were blessed because the hold-up didn't last long and we were on our way in hardly any time at all.  Thank goodness!

Our GPS took us through Georgia, North Carolina, and then into Tennessee.  It was an absolutely beautiful scenic drive.  Thank goodness I took Dramamine, though, because the roads were super windy through the mountains.  lol

We checked in to our hotel in Pigeon Forge between 4 and 5 and decided we still had time in the evening to do some sight-seeing.  We chose to start with the Titanic museum.  As we entered, they gave us each a "boarding pass" that had the name and story of an actual Titanic passenger.  That was pretty cool.  We were told that at the end of the tour, we would find out if we survived or not.

There were tons of models and sketches and artifacts and facts and stories.  We learned that they had to spread soap all over the dock to reduce friction as the massive Titanic pushed away from the dock.  There were 10 dogs on board.  We walked up a $1 million exact replica of the Grand Staircase.

There was a huge timeline on the wall of one of the rooms.  I had not realized that an entire hour passed from the time the initial iceberg warning was yelled until they began loading people into the lifeboats.  What the?!?  That seemed so ridiculous to me until Dave reminded me that most of the people were not worried because the ship had been deemed "unsinkable" and so they didn't think they had anything to worry about.  If only they had been right...

One of the most humbling parts of the tour for me was entering a room where they had a huge "iceberg" that you could touch and some troughs of water they keep at 28 degrees, which is how cold the water was on that fateful night 100 years ago.  When I put my hand in the water, it was almost unbearable to think that people spent hours in this freezing cold water, some who actually survived the ordeal.  Crazy!  I was grateful for my jacket and that I only had to dip my hand and then quickly dry it off and get warm again.  Wow!  Makes me remember that my sometimes seemingly horrible trials might not be so horrible after all...

Oh!  I almost forgot!  They had an exhibit that replicated the deck at different slopes so you could feel what it was like as it was sinking.  I couldn't even stand on the most sloping one they had.  How scary that would have been in real life....

There was a huge room dedicated to the movie:  props, costumes worn by Kate Winslet, trivia facts, replicas of all the awards the movie won, etc.  It was pretty cool to see.  :o)

In the last room, one huge wall was covered with names.  At the top were the names of the survivors, divided into classes:  1st class, 2nd class, and 3rd class.  For example, in the movie Rose (Kate Winslet) was a 1st class passenger.  Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) was a 3rd class passenger.  Most of the 1st class passengers survived because they were the the first people offered life jackets and spots in the life boats.  Over half of the 3rd class passengers, however, lost their lives as a result of the crash into the iceberg.

Both Dave and I survived.  :o)

On our way out, we bought a Titanic ship charm that Dave can put on my charm bracelet!

After Titanic, we were ready for dinner and realized we had just enough time to get to the Lumberjack Feud.  What is that, you ask?  It's like Medieval Times, only instead of knights jousting on horses, it's cute, muscly lumberjacks doing lumberjack things.

Ok, so that's a pretty lame description, but you can learn more about it here:  www.lumberjackfeud.com.

They took our picture as we went in, and Dave actually ended up buying it (to replace the picture of he and another girl he took on a date to Medieval Times).  ;o)

For dinner, they served BBQ ribs and chicken, yummy macaroni and cheese, BBQ beans, amazing dinner rolls, and strawberry shortcake.

Overall, it was a fun night!  Overpriced, but more enjoyable than Medieval Times.  Lots of audience interaction and participation, so that was fun!  Here are some pictures from the evening...

Sorry that this next one is on it's side...  He's climbing UP, not to the side  lol

Our first day in Tennessee was a fun day  :o)  Stay tuned for more blog posts about some of the other things we did while enjoying a much-needed vacation from work!

For Tamara :o)

A couple of weeks ago, Dave and I had the opportunity to watch Dave's 6-year-old neice for a few hours.  We ate pizza, played plenty of Hi-Ho-Cherrio and Candy Land, and played with Play-Doh.

Here is a masterpiece that Dave made especially for Tamara.

10 points for anyone else that can figure out what it is  ;o)

Feels like forever ago...

I should've blogged about this a long time ago!!  Better late then never  ;o)

I was blessed with the opportunity to fly up to Illinois and surprise Tamara a couple of days after she returned home from her mission.  We were all able to keep the secret and she was surprised.  So fun!

We stayed super, super busy for the 4-5 days I was there.  Here are a few of the things we did:

We (Dad, Mom, Tamara, Jennifer, and I) went to Nauvoo and did a temple session with my dad's brother and his wife.  It was so neat to be in the temple with so much family.  :o)  We missed Bryan, though...

We went to Chicago to get Garrett's Popcorn.  Yum!!!  We even stood in a long line in the hot sun, but the cheddar caramel mix was AMAZING and so way worth it!!!!  Sounds like a weird combo, but it's addicting.  Also fun was deciding the cheddar to caramel ratio that best suited everyone.  I'm 50/50  :o)

Dad took us all to the Rascal Flatts concert in Chicago!  My first Rascal Flatts concert (Jennifer's 4th or 5th...  ;o) and it was so awesome!  Little Big Town opened for them and they put on a wonderful concert as well.  The first 2 or 3 opening acts could have been done without, but Rascal Flatts was worth the wait!  Kinda freaked fresh-off-the-mission-Tamara, however...  Thought she was going to be sick when we first walked into the amphitheater, but by the end she was slightly more comfortable and even able to sing along to a few of the songs.  Lesson learned:  Let newly returned missionaries have about a month or so before you take them to a non-religious concert.  :o)

I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to fly to Illinois and be with Dad, Mom, Jennifer, and Tamara for a few days!  I LOVE MY FAMILY!!!  Hopefully, next time Bryan will be able to join us!

OCD eggs

So, I was making egg sandwiches the other day and realized I am OCD about where the eggs are in the egg carton.  Sigh....

They have to be evenly distributed.  Ummm....  Really??

Yes!  I think it stems from an experience when I almost dropped an egg carton of raw eggs because I grabbed an end that didn't have any eggs, so all the weight was on the other side where I wasn't holding.

The more I type, the more weird I sound to myself.  I will stop....

Very uneven and very unacceptable!

Getting better

Even better....

Perfect!

Finally!!!!

I guess the "Finally!!!!"  is two-fold.  Number 1:

I FINALLY am updating the blog!

And, number 2:  I FINALLY have a wedding picture book!  Like, an official one!  :o)

I am so way happy!  It's not exactly what I've always dreamed of, but it's pretty close.  I didn't put any captions or explanations 'cause I thought it would make it more classy if I left all the words out.

So, since a lot of my close friends and family live far away and can't see the real live book, a digital copy will have to do.  :o)  If the link below doesn't work or if you have questions about any of the pictures, let me know!

A special thanks to Jessica Ashley (my sister-in-law) at Peachtree Photography for taking the wonderful pictures!!!  (I also stole some from a couple Facebook albums:  mine, Gina's, Kami's and Lily's.  Thanks, girls!)

What a wonderful day to remember over and over and over again!  :o)  Thanks to everyone who helped make it so special and photo-worthy!

Oh!  The very 1st picture (the one with Dave in a white hat) was our very first picture together.  It was on our first Dave & Darah Day, the day we unofficially got engaged.  One of my most favorite days!

I LOVE DAVID ANDREW WHEELER!!!  (still, after over 2 years  ;o)

Sad News and a De Ja Vu Date

My favorite fish, my Little Runt Baby (as he was affectionately named), has gone to fishy heaven.  :o(  He was the runt of his litter and we are surprised he survived as long as he did.  I miss him and catch myself still trying to find him when I go look at the tank...  I'm hoping one of the fish gets pregnant so I can enjoy another Little Runt Baby.  :o)

On to happier things!

First, a little bit of history.  On our first official date back in January of 2010, Dave took me to see Avatar in 3D.  I didn't realize seeing a real-live-action-packed 3D movie was not a great idea for a person so prone to motion sickness.  Let's just say, I spent quite a good bit of time in the bathroom re-living my pasta dinner and texting my cousin:  "I'm on a date, getting sick in the bathroom, don't want to make him leave the movie because we've been trying to see this together for weeks, what do I do?!"

I ended up finally well enough to go back up and sit by Dave for the remainder of the movie, but I had to keep my eyes closed because watching only made me feel super sick again.  I think I even fell asleep off and on.

Meanwhile, because we were wearing 3D glasses, Dave had no idea what was going on.  lol  Not until we were heading to the car after the movie and he asked if I wanted to go hang out at his place for awhile; I quickly told him, "Please just take me home.  I'll try not to throw up in your car!"

Pretty memorable 1st date.  And he even asked me out again!  :o)  NOT to a 3D movie, though. :o)

So, Dave and I dubbed this past Thursday night as our date night for the week.  We went to Olive Garden so Dave could get the Parmesan Crusted Bistecca steak he'd been craving.  :o)  Then, we wanted to use the movie theater gift card my brother gave us for Christmas.  Luckily, the movie theater where the gift card was good is in the mall right next to the Olive Garden.

The only movies that we hadn't already seen and were even remotely interested in seeing happened to only be in 3D Thursday evening:  Ice Age 3, Brave, and the Katy Perry movie.  I have seen "Up" and "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs", both animated-type movies, in 3D without issues.  So I figured going to see "Ice Age 3" and "Brave" would be fine.  It's just the Katy Perry movie I was worried about.

As we were finishing dinner, we looked at movie times and realized we just missed getting into "Brave."  We had about 35 minutes before the Katy Perry movie started and another hour and 35 minutes until "Ice Age 3" began.  I was afraid I would fall asleep during the movie if we waited until after 8 to see Ice Age, so Katy Perry won the vote.

To prevent any issues, I took a couple of Dramamine and we saw the show.  (It was interesting and I like most of her music, but we were both glad it was free :o)  Dave is a lover of movie theater popcorn, so even though we'd just eaten dinner, Dave just had to have some popcorn.  lol  He munched on it while I used the bathroom before the movie began.  When I got back to my seat, Dave said, "I'm glad you're back.  I look pretty gay sitting here by myself waiting for the Katy Perry movie."  lol  Sorry sweetheart!

Anyway, half-way through the movie,  I look over at Dave and he doesn't look so great.  I asked if he was ok and he said, "No.  I think I ate too much.  I don't feel so great."  Wonderful!  We managed to nearly re-create our first date, only this time I felt fine.  lol  Italian food, 3D movie, one of us sick.  I don't think Dave and I were meant to see 3D movies together.  lol

Here's a pic of our "cool" Katy Perry 3D glasses, though.

Maybe one day we'll get it right!

Unexpected Upgrade #2

Long story, but here's the simplified version:

Rich guy at Dave's work upgraded his TV to one over 60 inches.  Rich guy now has a working, well-taken-care-of 42-inch flat-panel TV he needed to get rid of by this weekend.  Traded Dave one of the X-boxes he re-built for the TV.

What?!?!

That's right!  Dave is excited to be getting rid of our super heavy 36-inch TV and putting a nicer one in it's place for next to nothing.

(Please excuse the fingerprints lol  If Dave knew I put this up he'd be embarrassed...)

It has ambient lighting on the side/back of it that changes colors depending the predominant color on the screen at the time.  Shines on the wall behind the TV and takes away some of the brightness if you're trying to watch it in a dark or dimly-lit room.  Pretty interesting.

Anyway, I have a happy husband!  I must admit, the picture is pretty sharp.  I think I like it  :o)

Oh yeah!  So, our home teacher came over tonight and Dave asked him if he wouldn't mind helping him take the TV into the garage so he could leave it there until he sells it via Craiglist.  Our home teacher ended up going home with the TV  :o)  Glad we could give it away to someone so soon!  Pay it forward!  (Dave actually got the TV for free as well a few years ago.  Wonder how many more homes it will end up at for free :o)

Success again!

Dave used his new grill for the 2nd time tonight.  This time, he grilled pork chops.  They were so, so, so way yummy!!!

I told him he's hired!  He said, however, he's not going to be the full-time chef of the house, just occasionally.  I tried!  ;o)

Unexpected Upgrade #1

The faucet on the kitchen sink has been leaking for quite awhile.  It's not been a huge leak, but getting progressively worse.  Dave decided to bite the bullet and get a new one instead of waiting until it REALLY leaked big-time and we were stuck in more of an emergency situation.

So, we went to Home Depot where I got to pick one that I wanted.  I originally pick one of the cheapest of the type that we were looking at.  Dave, of course, picked the most expensive.  You know, the kind you can just touch it and it turns on.  Way over our budget!  We compromised and met more in the middle.  :o)  It also helped that a Home Depot employee gave us an amazing deal if we purchased right then.  So, we did!

Here is my new "toy"!  I love it!

One of the things I love most is that that the handle doesn't have to be turned like our old one.  If my hands are gross with raw meat or whatever, I can use the back of my hand or wrist to turn on the water.  Yay!!

Plus, since our sink is so shallow, I wanted a faucet that was higher up so washing larger-sized dishes would be easier and make less of a water mess.  So way awesome!

If you push the black button on the bottom part of the faucet (not the base, but the part where water comes out) it turns the water stream to a spray and you can pull it down closer to the sink.  Kinda hard to explain, but it's a cool feature.  :o)

Anyway, I am grateful we were able to get the leaky faucet fixed and not totally break the bank!

Next kitchen upgrade:  deeper sink :o)
