The Return

Ah it’s been a while. And for good reason too. I have been busy with my projects and stuff. Finishing reports, studying for this and that and I still have yet to finish doing some reading for my tournaments which are coming up. Plus I have a test next Thursday to study for. But alas its time I repaid the entries that has not been posted in this one week just like how I did for my sleep.

So much has happened in the news the past week. America just found out Iran stopped its weapons programme in 2003. Kinda funny how they always said that American intelligence is that darn good but only now do they realise that they were wrong cough* WMD cough*. But hey it’s all cos of the distrust I would say. There’s violence everywhere, global warming is worse than before, Sarkozy is trying to shoot his mouth off by meddling in Colombian politics even when he can’t really stop his own internal problems.

I owe the blog a few entries should be getting them soon. No worries.

The General's Scepter

Yesterday was Wednesday and it was the day when the Pakistani president General Pervez Musharraf decided to retire from the army to lead the country as a civilian leader.

Now I am a fully fledged Pakistani lad, I’m not mixed with anything else. My ancestry comes from the north near Islamabad. Ethnicity wise I’m known as what they call a Pathan. It’s a warrior race. My forefather himself, who was from Kabul, was a general in the Genghis Khan Armies that ravaged the whole of Asia. I like my culture and the richness of my heritage. It invigorates me to know my family tree.

However frankly speaking in my opinion the Pakistani society aint that fly after all. There is a wide rich poor divide and many people think in different perspectives. The poor are only interested in becoming rich and the only possible way other than working hard is through graft and corruption. Plus they have a much polarised point of view for religion it being Islam. They just take it too seriously.

On the other hand the rich are just arrogant and hypocritical. They love to show off their wealth and say how into religion they are but they just use religious gatherings as an excuse to gossip. The rich syndrome pakis exist in the four corners of the world.

There is no such thing as a middle class Pakistani with perfect thought flow who is basically a nice guy. Actually there are a few. Its kinda silly for me to generalise and stereotype.

Oh well haiz.... getting back to General Musharraf or should I say Mr Musharraf, he is to be sworn in as a civilian leader today to lead the country into the parliamentary elections that will be held on the 9th of January next year. Ironic how Singapore’s terminal 3 will be opening for passenger transport at full operation on that very day.

I’m sure everyone has been reading the news about Musharraf plunging the country into a state of emergency and dissolving the constitution and jailing opposition leaders who have been deemed as being rude if I may towards the administration and yada yada yada.

What do I think of this? Frankly speaking Musharraf has probably been the best leader in Pakistan history ranking with the likes of Zia Ul Haq and Abbas Khan. Mind you the other 2 were also military generals. In the other corner we see people like Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif both of whom are former PMs. Here’s the thing that kicks oh so well. Both were charged for corruption and graft against the state. Miss Bhutto even did it twice and that too as PM on both occasions.

Yes it does look like Musharraf is doing something undemocratic in nature but c’mon he’s a general for crying out loud. He lived his whole adult life serving the Pakistani army. The army as an institution itself is undemocratic in nature. Pakistan is a tough country to govern in case you have not noticed. Honestly speaking at this point in time I really dunno what to think about the situation in Pakistan. Give it democracy and it becomes a wise crack suicidal and extremist state that will probably be corrupt. Let it be in a semi dictatorship and it might just get more difficult to rule country as whole.

Curtains Up

Ah I’ve finally caught on to the blogging craze. I have a habit of doing that actually. I always catch on to things like fads slowly though I can absorb things fast. I’ve personally viewed blogs as a wasted opportunity for people to express themselves as most just write about their mundane lives like a good friend of mine says. Giving minute by minute reports of what happens every day.

I don’t think I wanna jump onto this bandwagon. I’d rather write about the issues in my life. News, philosophy, politics and law. These are what matters to me. The furthering of intellectual reasoning.

I actually started this blog a few months ago while I was bored. Now as I am bored again and having read my good mate, blob aka Wei xun's, blog I thought why not try something new for the heck of it. Yes some guys think it’s a bit sissy to write in diaries as it has perennially been perceived as a feminine thing to do. But then again this is not a diary. It’s a reflection of my life and how I fit into society.

Who am I one might ask. Sure we can get into technicalities. Some of the details are under profile. I’m 18 this year, a Singaporean Pakistani. I love spicy food and like many other guys love to watch soccer. My favourite club is Arsenal. I study in Temasek Polytechnic. I am currently doing my 3 year diploma course that will accredit me with Diploma in Business. I am majoring a Human Resources and Corporate Communications.

I am a member of the TP debate squad. Just a normal member of the squad with no added responsibilities. Phew... In the squad I’m known as Paki. We all go by nicknames in the club. The people in the club are my best mates. My mentor is my coach, Aji. He has thought me many things not only related to debates but to life as well. He’s a quirky and humorous fella. I’ll probably mention about him in other posts.

I’m blessed with a great family with both my parents and my 3 older siblings. Yes I’m the youngest. There are many facets to my life. Many still shrouded in mystery due to who I am. Over time loyal readers of this blog will get to know. Oh well I have to stop to accompany Sethu and Bhavs to KFC for lunch.
