today, December 23, 2009 is the 5 year anniversary of losing my dad. Everyday I miss him and cant believe I don't have him here.
At his funeral all of my siblings, including myself, spoke about our memories. This was mine.
He was always a good listener and was easy to talk to. no matter what the subject or the question, dad was always willing to share knowledge he had. he is the smartest person in the world and he always had an answer for everything.
I remember watching sports with dad too. we would always watch the suns play and he'd watch every college game of some sort. we as a family enjoy sports enough--to have pizza parties, on those "big game" nights.
Another memory of mine is dad teaching me to drive stick shift. I remember learning on the dirt roads at the cabin and being constantly reminded I was wearing out the clutch and/or the starter. and when I learned at home down the ally--he often yelled about trash cans.
I also have memories of daddy daughter outings and 3 legged races, and even Saturday morning breakfasts with horseback riding afterwards. I also remember every night having family scripture and prayer. I'd lay at the foot of the bed while we took turns reading aloud.
My most recent and now favorite memory I'll forever have with me was being able to stay the night with my dad the night before he went to the hospital. I wanted to let my mom rest (finally) and hopefully be of enough comfort to my dad that he would rest too. I'll never forget that night I spent with him.
Dad, thanks for all the piano lessons and coming to all my dance recitals. I promise to always take care of mom and until I see you again.---- I LOVE YOU POPS!
