Happy Birthday Chloe

We celebrated Chloe's 22nd birthday on March 7th & 8th. We picked up french toast for lunch on Saturday at the Matterhorn Food Truck, Chloe's favorite. Chloe has never liked cake so we always make her a giant chocolate chip cookie on her birthday.

We saw this sign in Seuss Landing (when we were visiting Florida) and couldn't resist taking a picture. Chloe was born in Lake Forest, Illinois and when she was four months old we moved to San Diego.

Sister Sadie

We were able to talk to Sadie on Wednesday morning as her travel group was given
permission to call home from the airport. She is doing well and ready for her next adventure.

a kind stranger took this photo and sent it to us.

President and Sister Samuelian met the missionaries at the Portland airport
and then took them to the Portland Temple.

Sadie has been assigned to serve in Sweet Home.

We won't hear from Sadie until Monday so the photos and updates sent to us by
President and Sister Samuelian have been a real treat.

FYI
all missionary mail is sent to the mission home

Sister Sadie

Sadie became a missionary on February 17th

On February 18th she entered the Provo MTC

No one wanted to miss out on the final farewell so we all squished
in one car and drove through the MTC drop-off to say good-by.
We'll miss Sadie and look forward to her return.

Chloe took some beautiful missionary photos of Sadie.
You can check them out and see some of Chloe's other work on her website

Florida

The day after Christmas we flew to Florida for a family vacation.
We spent a couple day at Clearwater Beach and a few days in Orlando.

It has been Sadie and Emily's dream to visit Harry Potter World,
we're all Potter fans so it was a fun trip for everyone.
Diagon Alley - Universal Orlando

Hogsmeade - Island of Adventure

Emily's 15th Birthday

We had a great time and missed what may be the only snow storm of the winter.

Merry Christmas!

As always, our Christmas Eve gift exchange it our favorite part of Christmas.
This year Judd and Chloe put their college education to use
to make thoughtful gifts for their Mom and Dad

Judd put his mechanical engineering skills to work to create a trammel of archimedes for David.
Chloe put hours and hours of family video together to create a cute Mehr family movie for RaDawn.

Vacation Week 2

The Great Salt Lake
Sadie was the only one to brave the brine flies and step into the water.

We stopped at Black Rock because it was a favorite spot of David's Grandma. She had fond memories of swimming there when she was a youth. David's Grandparents had two paintings of Black Rock and we are fortunate to enjoy one of them in our home now.

Later in the week Judd and Chloe joined us for a weekend getaway in Midway.
We went Jet Skiing at Jordanelle,

played at Utah Olympic Park,

and enjoyed being together as a family.
Cascade Springs
snow cones at Snoasis (Chloe's favorite)

Vacation Week 1

David has a couple weeks off so we planned some local adventures.

We took Grandma and Grandpa C. to the Ogden Temple open house

David, RaDawn, Sadie and Emily went to Promontory Point to see the Golden Spike,
only the Golden Spike is on display at Stanford University in California.

Fortunately we were able to buy a chocolate replica, Yum!

We stopped in Riverside to visit the graves of David's grandparents,
great-grandparents and other family members.

We headed to Logan where we checked out Utah State, and toured the laboratory of our good friend, Craig. Dave and Craig have been friends since college and we have enjoyed getting together with Craig and his wife Trudy over the years. Craig and Trudy bought us dinner (which we ate in the canyon) and then we hiked the Crimson Trail.

We celebrated our triumph over the 3 mile (felt like 6) trail with Aggie ice-cream
Sadie has been working at the creamery all summer so she was anxious to compare ice cream.
She says BYU's is better, although we really enjoyed USU's.

High Adventure

David went with his Priest quorum on a trip to Wyoming. They had a fabulous time!

Happy Independence Day!

On the 4th of July David and I said good-by to Grandma's house. Free at Last, Free at Last, Grandma's house is sold and we are free at last!

Several years ago (at Emily's suggestion) we started making homemade root beer on the 4th of July. We made way more than we could possibly drink so we invited our neighbors over to help us drink it. When we got our snow cone machine we started sharing snow cones with our neighbors as well.  It is now our tradition to serve homemade root beer and snow cones on our front porch every 4th of July. Each year we have more friends stop by and less left over root beer.

On July 5th, (at Chloe's suggestion) we went to the balloon festival. It was super cool and may end up being another summer tradition.

Sadie and her performance team were featured on our local news.  We were proud of Sadie's articulate response when she was unexpectedly interviewed.

Judd

Judd is a man of many talents! He is a mechanical engineering student and an aid in a couple engineering classes.  He's also a teacher's aid for the speed reading and student development class on campus. During winter semester, Judd worked with a student engineering team to design, build and race a human powered vehicle.

Last Sunday we all benefited from another of Judd's talents. . . making crepes. Judd surprised me by coming home just to make us a wonderful Mother's Day breakfast.

Spring Break

Sadie spent most of her Spring break in San Fransisco with the AFHS Orchestra.
Sadie and her good friend Megan,
consider themselves twins because they share the same birthday.

In addition to playing at Lucas Studios, the Orchestra was able to visit Alcatraz, Pier 39, Golden Gate Park as well as attend a Giants game and the Symphony.

David spent his Spring break enjoying some "brotherly love"
in Philadelphia at the Frozen Four Hockey Tournament
