When I decided to start blogging again, I was thinking more of sports topics and my kids, but today I want to try to attempt to write about our former Bishop. I say "try" and "attempt" because all day long thoughts and memories have been swirling around in my head and it is so sad that it took him passing away for me to think so strongly about him. I know that he did a lot for our family. I even know he loved us. I also am pretty sure he is the one who left us stuff anonymously, like the time someone left brand new sleeping bags on our porch before a scout camp, or hunting jackets at the start of a cold hunting season, or a new spare tire on the Jeep. Yep, I think he did all of those things, but he never admitted to them. He was always SO generous. He gave Scott work to help our family make money. He gave him the gas route when he moved, so Scott could earn more money. He gave us lots more than I will list here, because I dont want to make it sound like he loved us best, because I am sure he did the same for many other families and I'm sure they all felt he loved them best, too!
He was 69 years old. He had heart problems. He also took very good care of himself. He seemed young. We knew him for many years. When we first moved into 1st ward he was the Young Men's President. Then he was in the Bishopric for Bishop Freire and then Bishop Embleton, then he became the Bishop.
I really haven't had many Bishops in my life and if I do the math, for sure, Bishop Chamlee was my bishop for the longest! We haven't really ever needed a bishop for things, but whenever we did have recommend interviews, callings, or tithing settlement, he ALWAYS told us how much he loved the Guymon family. All those times, I probably just thought, "yeah, he says that to everyone", but I bet he meant it when he said it to us and to everyone!
I am having a hard time writing this because death is difficult for me. I think another reason Bishop Chamlee's death is affecting me is because I know I was hard on him often. I can remember a 5 or 10 page e mail I sent to him about all my complaints about him and the ward. I remember bad mouthing him to Melanee at times when I thought he didn't care about Bradley the way I thought he should. But he was always good to us. He brought us Krispie Kremes on our birthdays. He always had a big greeting and smile when he saw us. He was a good man. He was a great friend. I am so sad for his family and all his friends. He will be missed.

blogging
I stopped blogging, but I didnt stop having an opinion. I think I will start this blog up again with my thoughts and ideas on things. (And hopefully Bradley and Andrew will let me take their pictures now and then, too.)
This hockey season, I tried not to plan my life around the Sharks schedule. There have been seasons in the past when I've watched each and every and all of the 82 games per season (plus pre season and play offs). I didnt this year. Bradley and Andrew questioned me about it and Bradley got a little mad because he thought that I no longer cared about the Sharks, but he also seemed busier this season (watched less games than usual, too). Before the season was even over we canceled our Directv. That would have never been an option in the past.
I still followed the scores and watched when I could, but not every single second of every game and pre game show and post game show. It was nice, actually.
When the Sharks were doing well at the end of the season and in the playoffs, I was excited, but really didnt try to get my hopes up too much, knowing the hurt of disappointment it feels like to be a fan when your team loses important games!
Funny thing about this season's Stanley Cup is that the Sharks played my second favorite team, the Penguins. I still wanted the Sharks to win and was happy if the Penguins took 2nd place....but that didn't happen. The Sharks didn't play bad or blow it or anything, they were just beat by a better/healthier team. (I'm still wondering who had broken arms and pulled groins and stuff!!!!)
I can't wait till next season! It's fun to have a team to follow that is GOOD!
Too bad the Sacramento Kings pretty much are not likable or good. But I think that goes for most NBA teams...haha!
The Quakes are ok this year, not great, not terrible.
My fantasy soccer team is SO BAD!!! Scott's team is better and he doesn't even do anything with it (I do).
I am SUPER excited for the Olympics this summer. We definitely have to get satellite or cable or something before then!!!
The USMNT is pretty fun to watch. They are also pretty maddening!!!
Andrew did a basketball camp last week. He is also going to start training for FOOTBALL!!! Bradley is not playing soccer right now and is not going to do football this season. I hope he finds a way to stay in shape. Not sure if skateboarding is the same kind of exercise an athlete needs to do to train.
I did 12 weeks of a healthy challenge at work and lost 5 pounds. It's been over for about 3 or 4 weeks and I've gained 5 pounds....so I guess the conclusion I should take from that is that I need to exercise more!!! (I worked out 30-45 minutes 5-6 times a week!!!)

bad summer, so far
We are only about a little more than a week into summer vacation and it has been pretty horrible so far. On the very first day of summer, the day the kids had a minimum day....Andrew and his friend Phoenis went to our friend's house to swim. They have an open invitation there to come ANY time they want to swim. Our friend's kids dont use the pool much, but usually come out when Andrew and Phoenix. The parents are also happy the pool gets used because they are paying so much to keep it nice and clean. They also live pretty close to us, so the boys can easily ride their bikes over there and only have a few busy roads to cross. Of the three streets they have to cross, two have stop lights. Andrew and Phoenix ride their bikes to school daily. They both have their bike merit badge for Boy Scouts. I worry more about Bradley skateboarding around town than these kids riding their bikes. Chico is also a bike friendly town, with bike lanes and lots of bike riders.
Anyway, on their way home....Phoenix was hit by a Chevy Truck. The drive ran a red light. He hit Phoenix at about 35 mph, without breaking. Phoenix hit the hood of the truck and the ground, so got double the injuries. He WAS wearing a helmet. Andrew was right behind him, NOT wearing a helmet! I asked Andrew why they werent riding side by side and he said, "we've tried that before and we kept crashing into each other". Phoenix has head trauma, bruising, and road rash. The driver was not drunk or on drugs. It was an accident. Phoenix was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Andrew was left to talk to the police officer. I kinda wish someone would have given him a ride home or given him some comfort. By time I got home from work, Andrew was home, too. Andrew was very shook up by the whole thing and hasn't ridden his bike since. Phoenix, miraculously, had no broken bones. He was kept in the hospital for two days to watch the head trauma. He is doing pretty good now, but has head aches. His bike was really mangled. It's amazing how the pedals could be so bent, but his legs not broken....how the frame is bent, but not his back, etc.....very, very lucky kid!!!
Andrew said that as they were riding down the block, right before the intersection, they were talking about how this was going to be the best summer ever and that they should go swimming every day, how they are going to look back at the end of summer and remember this day.
They havent been swimming since and they will ALWAYS remember that day!!!
Then....the summer hasn't yet improved.... a different friend of mine's 2 year old son ingested a whole bunch of her prescription medicine and almost died.
This is definitely the summer of "hug your kids tighter" so far!!!

Your Once Upon a Time is Now
My friend asked me if she could borrow my Girls Camp Manual, so I got it out for her. It's been on my book shelf for probably 3 or 4 years, probably more, but the last time I went to camp was 2 or 3 years ago. Inside was a folded up talk I gave with the camp theme of that year, which was, "Your "Once Upon a Time" is Now". I can tell by the subjects in the talk that it must be about 6 years old, so it was fun to read something from that time frame.
I just called Melanee to read it to her, but she was dealing with two crying kids, so I thought I'd type it up here to share with everyone.
When I prepare talks, I don't type them up word for word, so there are incomplete sentences/thoughts in here, but when I gave it, I'm hope I got my thoughts across to the girls.
"There is o much to do, or so it seems-
go to church
go to seminary
come to Young Womens
Study
Read your scriptures
pray
do personal progress
we are told to constanly serve others
It is all so time consuming.
But seriously, you say in the Young Women's theme "At all times, in all things, and in all places"
Does this mean- every second of every day?
yes, it does!
"Stand as a witness of God" is what we vow to do.
Does what we wear matter?
Does what we say matter?
Our actions?
Have you heard the saying "preach the gospel always, use words if necessary"? that means.......
Our "Happily Ever After" is eternal life. The temple is so important because that is where you make covenants and recieve the promised blessing of eternal life.
Melanee....you all know her? My daughter. She was like you once. Here in this room attending Young Womens. She was just like any of you. She had a testimony, came to church, tried to always choose the right.
Now she is an adult and has grown. She takes two Institute classes even though she has already graduated from Institute, she's the Relief Society 1st Counselor, she fasts every Sunday because she loves it, she goes to the temple to do baptisms whenever possible even though the temple is 3 hours away, she reads conference talks FOR FUN, she wants to go on a mission, she wants to get married in the temple.
Do you think doing all of this should make her life perfect?
She just broke up with the boyfriend who she waited 2 years for while he served a mission. Her soccer coach doesnt like her, he took her captaincy away from her. The guy who she loves now doesnt know if he loves her. Her classes are super hard......
but trials are a part of life....and if I listed her blessings, the list would be longer than this list f trials. With all those things that she does righteously, her happily ever after WILL happen!!!! I'm sure of it.
And yours will too! You are princesses, destined to be queens. Your Once Upon A Time Is NOW!!!"

Boating Trip
Our friends invited us out to the lake with them last Saturday. I have a ton of photos to share, so I'm going to try a new way of sharing them here, let me know if this is lame and I should upload them one by one here on the blog like I used to do.

Jr High Promotion
I titled this blog entry that way because it is funny every time someone calls 8th grade graduation a graduation, because they really didn't do anything, they haven't really finished school or anything. But the students and the staff think its a big deal and everyone says this whole ceremony is for the parents. So, I guess it was an important day. Too bad it was nearly 100 degrees and the kids all had to sit facing the sun. It was a pretty nice ceremony, though. It went pretty quickly, too.
