So, when my kids play on sport teams, one of my favorite parts of a season is the friendships that are formed. I really enjoy visiting with the other parents and I also like when my kids become great friends with their teammates.
So far this basketball season, the parents really haven't clicked. Well, maybe THEY have, but I haven't made any friends. It's odd because I already know a few of them, and we are all kind with the "hi" and "byes" and "drive safes".....but nothing really beyond that.
I am not the team mom or anything, but I've tried a few times to set things up through e mail, by offering rides and attempting to plan between game get togethers. No one ever responds.
Before I really took it personally or let it really bug me, I realized that these parents also didn't attend the volunteer meeting or answer anyone else's e mails.
The kids come from 4 or 5 different elementary schools. It's a really new team.
All of that introduction doesn't really fit the story I wanted to blog about, though, haha......well, you may remember that between games last tournament Andrew and I found a theater with movies that cost $1.25. Then when we were leaving we found 4 of his teammates (and two of their moms) in the theater. It was really fun to see them and spend a little time together! And such a SHOCK because Redding really is a GIGANTIC, spread out town.
Well, yesterday we had a break between games. I had sent an e mail a few days before the tournament trying to plan something, but only one person responded and told me that the break between games was too short and they didn't want to go anywhere. We had packed all kinds of snacks, drinks, sandwiches, etc...we didn't really need to go anywhere, but the gym was small and noisy, so we left. EVERY fast food restaurant you can imagine is within a mile of the school we were at, but Andrew picked McDonalds, he wanted a small McFlurry. (It was a 2 hour break, I figured it would be similar to experts advising athletes to drink chocolate milk after a performance.) When we got out of our car.....the two coaches and two of the players from the Chico Jr 8th grade B team were just arriving also. They had just finished their game at a different gym. The coaches are both substitute teachers at Andrew's school and the 8th graders were both kids Andrew knew from math class, so we sat with them and had great fun talking about our games that night, school, and odd random junior high boys topics....haha! As we were sitting there, WHO walks in.....remember LARGE town, EVERY fast food choice available......the three kids and one mom from Andrew's team.....THE SAME KIDS from the movie theater. WITHOUT PLANNING, we went to the same place!!!!
Remember when this happened at Bradley's soccer tournament in Manteca when we were at my uncle's house and most of the team was at a motel and there was no team dinner planned but we just happened to see them at In n Out that night!!!!
Just such a small world....WHAT are the chances.
Such a fun time at McDonalds.
Proof that it was fun????----- they wanted to go back to McDonalds again after the second game, remember?
