First Game of the Season

Yesterday was William's team's first game of the season.  It was a home game and Dax was able to go because he is in Virginia right now for National Guard Training.  I asked him to send me some pictures!  Thanks Dax....iphones are awesome!

We watched the game on the computer webcast.  We hooked our laptop to the tv and watched it that way.  It made the screen a little bigger and sound a little louder.  William didn't get into the game, he was a sub, but the game was still fun to watch.

And, the best thing of all, THEY WON!  They beat a team they haven't beaten in 5 years.  A team they lost to 4-1 last season.

I am so happy that William is on the team and is having fun.  I am also thrilled that most of the games will be online!  GO Knights!

I love soccer!!!!

my birthday

On midnight before my birthday Texas time zone, Melanee wished me a Happy Birthday. Then at midnight our time, Scott said, "Happy Birthday".  But on the morning of my birthday, no one remembered my birthday, I don't think, because with all the running around getting ready for Seminary, school, and work, NO ONE said anything.  I went to work, too....but the kids there didn't know it was my birthday, well, until....my friend Adam (3rd grader) and another 3rd grader who celebrates the same birthday (but I had forgotten that) came into the multi purpose room and wished me a happy birthday!

A few co workers and student's parents are my friends on Facebook, so a few others said, "Happy Birthday."

My friend Michelle had taken me out to lunch on Monday for my birthday and my friend Krisha had taken me out to lunch about a month ago.
But there was no one to go out to lunch with on my birthday because Scott had a dentist appointment, so he took his lunch while I was at Yard Duty.  So when Andrew came home from school, I told him that we had an old gift card and we should go out to Applebees.  I kinda made him, he didn't really want to go, but I told him he could get soup and a milkshake and that it would be fast because the soup is already made.  When we got there, the place only had about 4 tables filled.  There was one person sitting in the lobby waiting, a bartender, and a guy at a table who looked like a manager working on payroll or scheduling or something.  No one said anything to us when we came in, but there was a sign that said, "Wait to be seated".  So we waited and waited and waited.  The bartender said someone would be with us, but we never did see any waitresses or waiters or any staff at all, except the waiter and the guy at the table near the hostess desk area (which was really messy).  More people came in and they were ignored, too.  We waited as long as we could stand, then left.  We went to Carls Jr and I had a yucky taco....Andrew did enjoy his milk shake, there, though!

Then, when we got home, we realized that it was back to school night for Andrew.

I went to it and it took 2 hours.  I think Andrew has some good teachers and I think he will do well.  The math teacher asked if we could move him up to the Advanced math class.  That was nice to hear, but I know it's going to be a lot more work than he has been having.  He was in basic math and their assignments so far have been things like addition review.  It really was a math class to help you get ready for math class!

After Back To School night, I went home.  There were lots of presents wrapped and on the table.  Our friends the Driscolls came over with a homemade cake and candles.  They sang the birthday song and watched the Guymons sing the Hooning birthday song.
Then I blew out the candles.  They didn't all blow out!

The Driscolls also gave me beautiful flowers.

And my friend Carla, who is a landscape designer, gave me other beautiful flowers.
It was time to open Scott's gifts.  I didn't know what to expect because I didn't ask for anything or need anything.  I also knew that we don't have much money to spend and that the car I got for Mother's Day could just be my "all holiday" gift!!!

But there was a gift bag......and in it was =
yeah, a squirrel lamp!  I will have to take another picture tonight when it is dark, so you can see the lighted tail and EYES!

To stick with the theme, I also got a squirrel broach from the ever thoughtful Scott.  Why Squirrels, you ask?  Is it because they are my favorite animal (rodent) or something?  No.  No, I don't love or even like squirrels.  I think Scott is just the worst gift giver of all time!  I used to think that fish bowl rocks (that were professionally wrapped from a very ritzy store) were the worst gift ever....but if he was trying to top that....he just may have done it.

Luckily, Bradley and Andrew went shopping at Wal Mart while I was at back to school night and they got me some Peppermint Patties, Reeces Peanut Butter Cups, 2 boxes ofJunior Mints, M and M's, Whoppers, Hot Tamales, an individual snack Apple Pie, a box of cupcakes, and a pack of Twix!

My dad also sent me a card!!!  So did Scott's mom!

The next day, I got another present while at work.  I saw Adam at the first recess and he asked if I got any presents....and I told him about the squirrels (he knew about them already!!!!!!!!!!!) and the candy, but he asked, "Did anyone get you any SALAMI?" and I said, "No, but they should have because I love salami!".....Later that day at lunch recess, Adam came up to me with this-
for ME, and it had "Happy Happy Birthday" written on it.  It was FULL of salami, the tasty kind!  What a sweetie!

I think that's it...I got a few phone calls and a lot of facebook messages, so I do know that I am cared and thought about!  (I should have written this two days ago, I'm sure I'm missing details!)

Thanks everyone!

tie dye

We had a Young Women's activity at the church last night where we tie dyed t shirts.  I didn't really want one for me, so I made one for Bradley.  In the past, we've tie dyed by wrapping t shirts with hundreds of rubber bands, but this method took only 4 rubber bands!  I had no idea what it would look like when it was in a wad like this.

I rinsed it in cold water and hot and as you can tell it faded a bit....but still had nice, bold colors.

When I opened it up, I liked it.....I still had to wash it, though---
And this is what it turned out like after being fully washed-
Bradley hasn't come home, yet, to see it....wonder if he will like it????  What do you think?

SVU soccer

William went back to SVU to play soccer (and go to school).  He arrived there on Friday.  Soccer activities began early Saturday.  They had to get checked out by the trainer, all their paperwork approved, team meetings, they got their warm ups and t shirts and stuff, and later in the day they took the school vans and went to a UVA soccer game together.

I know everyone, pretty much, thinks that Twitter is lame and they don't understand it, but I love it.  And just the other day I met a new friend on Twitter....one of William's teammates.  It was on Wednesday or Thursday that we "talked" on Twitter, so at the time, he didn't even know William.
At one point on Saturday he Twittered that he was at the UVA game, so I asked him if he had met William yet and he instantly Twittered this back to me---

He said William is a "cool dude".

They sat together at church the next day, too!

The team started double days Monday morning at 6:00 am.  Today is Tuesday, I wonder if William is already sore, haha.  I read an inspirational quote the other day and it said something like, "Train so hard that training is easy." (or something like that, I'm sure their wording was better!)  I actually hope William is NOT sore, that would mean that he arrived at school ready for the season.

I hope he sends me MORE photos!  (So that I don't have to depend on my Twitter "friends" for updates on my son, haha!)

1st day of school

Today is the first day of school after what seemed like a VERY SHORT summer!  Bradley is now in high school and Andrew is beginning Junior High!  A 9th grader and a 7th grader.  One year we had a high school, jr high, and kindergarten graduation on the same day....this is almost as historic....ah, maybe not, but a pretty big day in the Guymon household.

Bradley and Andrew got out their school maps last night and figured out their class locations.  I'm NOT kidding when I say that Bradley zig zags across his campus....NO classes are near the one before it!  When we showed his schedule to the counselor who was assigning lockers, she LAUGHED and said, "Just throw a dart on the map, you'll be walking past ALL these lockers many times during the day."

Both kids have PE first period.  Bradley has French last period.  His friend's mom said that she wrote a note on the class selection paper to try to get PE last period so that when he plays soccer, he wont miss anything really hard to make up (like science or foreign language)....oops, I should have done that, I think I had done that in the past for the older kids!

Andrew was excited to go to school.  He rode his bike.  I don't even know if he knows where the bike racks are.  I don't even think he has a lock.  He wore Bradley's skate helmet (at least Bradley had left already and didn't know, or there would have been a fight, I'm sure.)

We took the traditional (for our family) first day of school photo in front of the palm tree.....
This is not a first day of school photo, but this is the size of the palm tree when it was planted!!!!

Fair Oaks Tournament

Bradley's team played in their first tournament of the season.  I LOVE soccer tournaments.  I love that they get so many games in such a short time.  I love hanging out with the other parents.  I love the one on one time spent with Bradley.  It's all fun to me!  I hope that this team can go to more tournaments this season.

This tournament was played in Fair Oaks, near Sacramento.  Not quite as fun as last year when we went to Fort Bragg for camping and soccer, but it was better than sitting home!

This is a new team...there are 6 players from Bradley's last year team.  Three new players, who have never played for Butte United and 6 players from the team one year younger than Bradley's team.  It's was really good to finally start playing games.  They have been practicing since April!!!!

The first game didn't go too well.  Bradley's coach was mad that not many people come to practice, so he decided on Tuesday (without telling anyone until after practice) that the 11 kids attending that day were going to get to start the first game.  Well, the 11 kids weren't the "best 11" and they weren't really set up into their natural positions.  The "weak" line up, designed to teach everyone to come to practice....didn't do so well.  After the first half the score was only 0-0.  The second half was better, but....two goals were "let" in by a fairly weak goalie.  One went over his head and he just watched it.  The other he tried to stick out his foot to stop it....and it went easily past him.  But no one scored for Bradley's team...so they lost 2-0....I cant blame the goalie solely on the loss because no one scored...but if he would have saved those two, the score would have been a 0-0 tie.

In tournament scoring and placement.....wins are worth 6, one point for the first 3 goals, and 1 point for a shut out.  Ties are worth 3, losses 0.  Since Bradley's team lost and didn't score, they earned 0 points.  The other team got 6 for the win, 1 for the shutout, and 2 for the two goals!  Lot's of points!!!

The second game went a lot better.  The players seemed to pass better, the line up and positions seemed to be sorted out, and the defense stopped a lot.  There were still things to work on like goal kicks, stronger passing, switching the field, and not so many far out shots.....but I think everyone was happy with a 0-0 tie.  But, they went a whole day without scoring, so that was bad.  Also, the team they played had won their earlier game, so Bradley's team was in 3rd place after the first day.  There were only 4 teams in the U15 boys bracket, so there would be a championship game played by the 1st and 2nd highest point getters and a consolation game against 3 and 4.  Bradley's team would have to win the morning game by scoring more than 3 goals and they needed a shut out to get the maximum 10 points.

They also needed the other game not to end in a 0-0 tie!  0-0 tie would give the team they tied too many points!

Bradley's team played the Sunday morning game against host team Fair Oaks.  Fair Oaks had no subs.  Fair Oaks had lost their first two games.  Fair Oaks was terrible.  Bradley's team beat them 8-0.  It was a blow out.  The coach put in all the scrubs.  He made them pass 15 times before they could shoot.  He tried to protect the shut out, but not run up the score.  The other coach was mad.  He tried to get the ref to end the game early.  He yelled at our coach every time the boys did shoot.  It was odd.

Well, the other game DID end in a 0-0 tie.  So, Bradley's team ended up in the Consolation game...against Fair Oaks.  That game was to be played at 1:00, so we sat in the shade, ate peanut butter and jelly and watched a girls game or two.

The boys began their warm up at noon and warmed up hard.  They checked in at the official table.  THEY WERE READY.  At about 12:57, they were informed that they other team forfeited.  The had gone home.  They weren't even there.

WHY DIDNT ANYONE TELL US at 10:30, when the first game ended???  WHY did we have to wait around for 3 hours???  And, they were the host team, this was THEIR tournament.  So frustrating!!!!!  Such a waste of time and money!  Not really fun to play a 8-0 game, but that's at least WAY MORE FUN than NOT playing at all!!!!

So, Bradley's team got 3rd place medals, but Bradley hated his!

30th Class Reunion

With Scott's good friends Bill and Kim before the event
Scott's class had their reunion today.  Scott wanted me to go with him, but I really DID NOT want to.  He tried to tell me that it would be fun....but I really DID NOT want to go.  I remember the last one I went to wasn't very fun, AT ALL.  He tried to tell me that Melanee went with him to his last class reunion, but I thought he was mistaken, so I did a blog search here and found this--- http://dsguymon.blogspot.com/2009/07/scotts-25th-high-school-reunion.html written 5 years ago.  I re read it and had Scott read it....

he didn't ask me to go any more times after that, so right now, he is at his reunion in Willows at a Race Track....and I am home, sitting on the couch watching a Disney Movie called "Pound Puppies" or something about puppies.
Earlier, I watched the Quakes game and that was really fun for me....WAY more fun than I would have had at Scott's class reunion.  The Quakes won and it was a very exciting game!  Glad I didn't have to miss it!  Hope Scott is having as much fun at his reunion as I had watching the game.

friday fun day

After all the vacations and busy times this summer, I've enjoyed a few blank days on the calendar, but my good friend Krisha asked if I was doing anything on Friday.  I knew the calendar was blank, but I was super willing to fill it in when she mentioned "Olive Garden"...
Out to lunch in our family usually means "Happy Hour" at Taco Bell.....but I LOVE going out to lunch.  In fact, on Monday, THIS WEEK, I went out to lunch with my other good friend Michelle.  I never feel like eating any of the lunch food at our house, but going out to lunch is the best.  Not only because the food is better than the stuff here, but it's nice to talk, visit, catch up, get away, and enjoy each other, enjoy being waited on, and enjoy air conditioning!!!  Thanks Krisha, I ate a lot, had fun, and really appreciate you paying the tab!!!!  You are the best!!!!  (Michelle paid on Monday, too!  I have GREAT friends!)

It's 110 degrees in Chico today.  WAY too hot.  A friend offered her pool to anyone who wanted to cool down, so I took Andrew over there for a swim. Thanks Emilee for the invite!!!  Andrew had fun and I didn't mind getting splashed!  SO HOT today!!!
