Home Run

Andrew Baseball

Andrew's team only had 7 kids show up today....two "athletes", a special needs kid, and four TINY little girls.  Andrew and Logan are the only two players on the team who made any outs in the field. When Andrew was on 1st, Logan was at 3rd and they got one runner out with a great throw by Logan and a great catch by Andrew.  On another play, while Andrew was 1st baseman, he fielded the ball and tagged 1st base.  Later in the game, Andrew was short stop and Logan was second baseman and they made an out with Andrew getting the ball and throwing to Logan covering 2nd. Logan also caught a couple of nice fly balls.

Andrew hit two singles and a Home Run.

this was the shortstop to second play
this was one of Logan's pop fly outs
one of the singles (youcan see the yellow ball)
was the cut off guy, threw this all the way home, no one caught it....no one else on the team can catch

Lake Oroville

It was a million degrees out today....luckily we were invited to go out boating.  This is going to be one of those blog post where pictures tell the story---

yep, Scott went in with socks and his hat (he didn't want to get his feet or head sunburned)!

Andrew swam to the shore and walked up to this old house, or what was left of it.  I guess it was built there before there was a lake! It's pretty much gone now.

Ducks back at the dock!  Andrew fed them some snickerdoodles. I think a lot of people feed them their old leftover food, they swim right up to the boats with their mouths opened!

Quakes

The San Jose Earthquakes just lost to the worst team in the league, a team with only ONE win, a team that is WORSE than the Chivas, a team who went scoreless their past 7 games.  The Quakes are bad this season.  SO BAD.

I have a few ideas for their poor performance.  Well, injuries, that is the top "excuse", but I feel like soccer is a team game and the "subs" (the non starters) are a big part of the team and they should be ready to step up and fill in if a "starter" gets injured.  So, the injury reason is a bad one.  Last season, this basically SAME team, was much deeper.....I mean they didn't lose too many players off of last years league leading team, but this year the bench isn't as "deep", why is that????  It's a mystery.

The "goonies" name is just lame....and a sequel to a movie is NEVER as good as the original, so before this season began and people were calling it "Goonies 2", I really thought that was stupid.  Get rid of the Goonies moniker!  It's just meaningless.

Chris Wondolowski demanding more money, saying he deserves DP status, claiming his goal numbers last year should translate into pay increase this year, well, that to me is just wrong!  One of the reasons they cant sign more "help" for the team is because he took a pay raise.  And all that doubling of salary did to him was make him stress out and just play too reckless.  He cant handle the added pressure of his new status.  He has 5 goals this season.  No where near last years numbers.  He misses a bunch of easy opportunities, too.  He's bad this year.  A goal scorer, who doesn't score....yeah, that's not good for any team.  Records and stats have proven that being the league leading scorer one year does not mean he will repeat.

And, before this DC United game Wondo claims he got a "foot contusion" in practice....FOOT CONTUSION, that's just a BRUISE.  Soccer players play with bruises.  I think, in fact, that he was taking the day off....sorta like David Beckham used to do for the Olympics, Wimbeldon, and the Royal Wedding II.  I think he thought that DC United would be an easy game for the Quakes to win.  I think he had his fundraiser for Street Soccer this weekend and he got the contusion (bruise) so that he could attend that.  I think he wanted to skip out on the cross country flight.  I think he should have still went to support his team, injured or NOT.  He is the captain.  He should have went...he should have played.  He's getting paid millions now.....he needs to step up and lead this team....or take a pay cut!  (which he never will).

And I think this team is losing because they play without heart, effort, patience.  The season still has a lot of games left.  They can still make the playoffs.  Come on Quakes, make the playoffs, then be the underdog and take it all.  The talent is there, let's see some intensity and FINISHING!

Baseball Week 1

I wasn't able to go to Andrew's first baseball game, but Scott was there and sent me some cell phone pictures.  Here are the two best ones.  Andrew in all the catcher's gear with the coach and also warming up to bat----

dancing girls

When Melanee and William were younger whenever we did scripture study....Scott would start out by saying, "does anyone remember what we read about last time".....and someone, one of us, any of us would ALWAYS say, "the dancing girls"....we'd say that EVERY time, no matter what we had read about the time before.

So yesterday, I awoke to a text from Melanee.....a photo text------

Girls Camp

I should have blogged about Girls Camp the minute I got home a week ago, because my memories have quickly faded and I want to blog about it right now, but I don't even know where to start and I barely remember what happened.  I am not sure that is a good thing or a bad thing...haha.  It may mean that I am getting old and senile and losing my memory or it may mean that I am blocking out all the things because I want to forget them....nah, it wasn't that bad.

Bradley is going away to scout camp next week and I hope he has fun.  I also reallllllly hope that he doesn't act like some of the disrespectful kids who were at Girls Camp.  I think he will have a lot more fun than we did, though, because at his camp there is going to be water skiing, white water rafting, canoeing, hiking, and big events planned for each and every day (one is a service project, but that can be fun with the right attitude).  At our camp, it was a lot of girly fun, but no high adventure stuff that the boys get to do.

So, let me try to recap camp day by day.  The first day we traveled there and got settled.  We planned on leaving at 7:30, but that never happens!!!!  Someone is always late!!!!  We always wait for the late person, even though we always promise that we wont wait.  ALWAYS.  Anyway, the car ride there was pretty and pretty fun.  We drove through the back roads behind Oroville, up to the mountains and there was a lot of nice, quiet scenery.  I had an odd assortment of girls in my car, so there wasn't a ton of talking or singing or anything.  We followed Sister Norris, who has been up to the camp 4 times already and she had directions and a GPS and she still didn't know how to get there.  We found it, though.  We have a 10 person tent, which is tricky to set up, but sister Norris stayed to help and our big sister did a lot of the work, too.  We had lunch and free time.  After dinner there was a opening spiritual talk by one of the Stake Presidency members, but I missed most of that because one of my girls ate Starburst candy while having braces on her teeth and her braces wire came off.  We went and found the camp craft lady, who we knew would have wire cutters. She did.  She fixed the braces.  We got back in time for the skits.  Our ward seems to always have the worst skit.....this time, though, I would have to say, in all honesty, that our skit was THE BEST!  The girls acting was right on and I even got to dance the Harlem Shake (twice, actually, haha).  Our big sister pretty much took over all "leader" duties the second we arrived, so she took over and was the person leading all the devotionals, bed time rituals, getting the girls to go, my job was easy.  I had my own tent and my hearing loss helps me to get to sleep fast.

The hikes took place on the second day.  I had 6 girls in my group and they were all 2nd levels so I decided to go on the 2nd level hike.  But there were also 6 other leaders going on that hike, and NO leaders, besides the main priesthood leader, going on the 1st level hike, so I went on that one instead.  I've been on that hike before and it is easy and really spectacular scenery.  We also saw different trees, bear poop, and stopped and did certification requirements on the way.  The first level girls are 12, so they are really cute and say funny things.  Here are a few of them---we were talking about staying where you are if you get lost.  One girl says, "What if you know where the path back is?"  And the leader, Brother Keables, was so funny in the way he said, "Then you aren't lost".  That may be a "had to been there" story, but it was really funny the way it was all said.  Another time he was showing them trees.  He pointed at one and asked what kind it was.  One girl said "an evergreen".  He said, "that's a classification for trees that stay green all year long, do any of you know the name for trees that turn color and lose their leaves" and another girl answers right away and positively "nevergreen"....that was really cute, too.  When we got back to camp, the 1st year girls were all saying "that was SO fun"....and I saw my 2nd year girls and asked how their hike went and they all said, "terrible, worst hike EVER".  Funny that the hikes were so different or perceived as so different.

The second day was also the night that the bishops came up for dinner, which we needed to make for them in our camp areas.  It was also the service project day.  For the service project we had to use fence post diggers and dig down 4 feet to put up signs labeling each camp site.  The ground was hard and there were lots of tree roots to dig through.  At one point I worried that we wouldn't have dinner made in time for the bishop, since dinner started at 5:30 and the service project ended at 5:30.  At about the same time, our big sister and I had different ways of digging the holes and it was really a case of too many cooks, or whatever that expression is.....so she pretty much turned to me at one point and basically said, "yo woman, go make me a sammich".....or she said that I could go start on dinner and she'd take care of the girls and the service project.  It was more funny than offensive.  But by day two, she really exerted her leadership ability and pushed me aside....no biggy, though, less work for me, haha!  The bishop showed up, but spent his first hour or so there visiting with other bishops and staff.  He finally came to our site, but we didn't have enough chairs so he sat on an upside down bucket.  He said he didn't mind.  We ate Hamburger Helper, hot dogs, and fruit salad.  Jeni Olson was supposed to come and bring a green healthy salad (she makes awesome salads)....but her and Tim had a hard time finding the camp, so they didn't get there until 8:30 at night.  They missed our dinner, but ate the salad.  That night the whole camp met at the flag area for "bedtime stories", but with my hearing loss and the darkness, I couldn't enjoy it at all.  Also on this day, one of my girls had a splinter, but we couldn't find the nurse anywhere, so we went again to the craft lady, who we knew had needles, and she removed the deep, infected splinter.

The next day was more certification, but this time I stayed behind for a little bit of alone time.  It was nice, but I also felt lonely because in the two camps near me, their leaders had assistant leaders to visit with (they both had 3 leaders, I had one, ME).  Every day I spent free time helping out the craft lady.  She was the only craft worker there, but she had about 10 projects going at once and probably near 50 girls wanting and needing help at any given moment!

Friday was the wrap up day.  There was a certification game, a water balloon volleyball game, and the return of the long distance hikers.  We also ate breakfast in our own camps with our own cooking skills, but my girls seemed to think it was the "sit and be cooked for" breakfast and that made me kind of angry.  At one point I yelled at them "I am not here to serve you"....a statement I wish I could take back, because, actually, I WAS there to serve them.  But they made me upset with their unwillingness to help and their criticisms.  I could tell by the end of this day that camp was winding down.  The girls stayed up really late that night sitting around the smoky campfire talking and attempting to sing the camp songs one last time.

Saturday morning had some really good closing ceremony type speakers and I really hope the girls got their messages.

We were all packed and ready to leave by 10 AM, but Sister Norris didn't come back to pick us up until 12:15, so we did a lot of waiting around, when we just wanted to be home.  Packing was easy because we really didn't bring anything more than ourselves, our clothes, our sleeping bags, and our tents.  The other wards came up in big vans towing big trailers full of luxury camp gear.  I watched them and felt jealous most of the week, with their I pad scripture reading and washing dishes in a REAL sink....but in the long run, the ease of our clean up was worth not having so much STUFF.

weeding the garden

This year we have a garden over at our friends the Pope's house.  They let us use their land with just a couple of stipulations, one was that the rows of vegetables needed to be straight rows and that there would be no weeds.  So last night Scott had the brilliant idea of going to weed the garden.  He got the boys to go along by saying they could swim in the Pope's pool, which they did, so not much weeding got accomplished.

Jr Giants Baseball League

Andrew is playing in his second season of Junior Giants.  It's a baseball league for beginners.  He's on the Royal Blue team this year.  Since they are all junior "Giants", every team is called the Giants, so they go by their color, so Andrew's team is the Royal Blue team.  I didn't take any action shots today because it was the 8:30 game, so the sun and shadows were all wrong, but I did get this picture of Andrew and two of his friends (teammates) Logan and Simon.  If the picture was closer up and Simon was smiling a toothy smile, you'd see that they all have the same teeth, meaning---they are all 3 missing the two top teeth next to the front four, it's kinda cute, actually!

Scott only stayed for the first inning, but while he was there Andrew struck out.  In his next two at bats he hit home runs, so he came over to me between innings and said, "you like how when dad is here I always strike out and when he is not I hit home runs".  Very Interesting!  haha!

Andrew also got 4 batters/runners out while playing in the field.  He played pitcher, 1st base and 2nd base. He says he likes 2nd the best.

Happy Birthday

(an old photo from a Christmas past,
 if you were wondering how
I got a picture already!)
I am going to miss Scott's birthday on Wednesday, so if you see him wish him a happy day, or if you want to Facebook message him or get him a gift, go for it.  He will probably be home feeling sad.....nahhhhh, he'll probably be out fixing a car or a wall or a sink or a something for someone who asks.  Or he might be doing what we call "playing with his bees".  Or watering the garden.  Or hopefully, he will be sitting in the front room (on the floor if his pants are dirty) watching some random show set in Alaska (there are A LOT of those type of shows).

Well, Scott, if you are reading this....hope you have a Happy Birthday.  Andrew is supposed to make you some brownies for a cake.  You'll probably go out to dinner at your favorite place Wendy's and get a vanilla frosty.  I hope you have fun and get lots of gifts, cuz I didn't get you anything....maybe you can get a Father's Day gift this year.

You are a good person, glad that you are my husband.  I love you!  Happy Birthday, sweetie!

burritos

I am going to be gone for a week, that means Scott cooking (or the boys).....
Here is a sample of a meal, prepared with love by Scott....I think it was called a burrito, but what it really is was a can of chili, slices of cheese, inside a tortilla, served on a plate with a fork.

ummm, creative, but .... not the tastiest way to eat chili, or cheese, or tortillas.....

sports and the church

I am writing ALL of this to be funny, in a sarcastic tone, and dont mean ANYTHING serious by any of it....

So, even though we have softball fields at some of our temples, even though our church has AMAZING (read that as "not amazing") competitive (read that as "calm down guys") basketball leagues, and the leaders even preach health and well being through nutrition and exercise, I think our church has something against sports!!!!!

You see, Super Bowl Sunday is on a Sunday....and OFTEN a Fast Sunday, what kind of fun is that?  And Monday Night Football is on Monday night, Family Night.  Homemaking Meeting (when they used to have them) ALWAYS seemed to coincide with a Sacramento Kings game.  We've had ward campouts during the NBA Finals.  People try to schedule cub scout meetings during Sharks games, what's up with that?  And the biggest conflict was the time they put Girls Camp Week during the World Cup?  Why would they do that?

I need to be put in charge of the church, stake, and ward calendars, maybe if I was, some, many, of these conflicts could be avoided.

This year, maybe someone was looking out for me because the Sharks, my favorite team, did not make the Stanley Cup Finals.  Neither did my second favorite team, the Penguins......so when I was asked at the last minute to attend Girls Camp (again), I knew it wasn't a World Cup year, and I knew my teams were out, so I said, "yes"  (or maybe I said, "ok") (there's a big difference).  Either way I am going.

Instead of being in charge of churchwide calendars, maybe I should memorize my own.....because....I AM going to miss a World Cup Qualifying game and, more importantly, Andrew's first baseball game.  I will also miss the first few games of the Stanley Cup Finals, but in that series, I'm just rooting for them BOTH to lose.  I'm not following the NBA Finals much, but they are on now, too.  ("go Spurs go", is that the cheer, Melanee? San Antonians are so creative.)

Is there ANYONE out there who thinks like me----sports first, everything else can fit into half times, intermissions, or before the pre game show or after the post game show????  Does anyone out there root for a soccer injury (they are all fake anyway) so that you can have time to run in and make dinner?  Or hope for the puck to go out of play so that you can go put the laundry into the dryer?  Or, do any of you hope the last 10.3 seconds of the basketball game REALLY does take 10.3 so that you wont be late picking your kids up from scouts????

Chico State Basketball Camp

I convinced Bradley to let me take a picture of him this morning before the first day of basketball camp.
He was pretty happy and excited to go.  He even let me walk in with him, but I'm glad I did (even though I left my car in the 3 minute loading zone) because there were release papers to sign.
He was there for 3 hours and enjoyed it.
It goes on for the rest of the week.  Hope he can learn a lot and even improve in this one week because he wants to play 8th grade basketball next year!  He is getting tall and muscular.

My Friends

Today was the last day of school so I brought my camera.  Krisha thinks it's funny that I call the students my "friends"....so here I am with a bunch of my friends --

Penguins make me sad, too

Who would have thought that Sharks and Penguins would ever be a part of my life and a part that causes extreme sadness?
I'm talking about  hockey teams, not animals.
When the Sharks dropped out of the playoffs, I wanted to keep watching playoff hockey, so I clung onto the Penguins because I really like Sidney Crosby.  Well, they had a good season....and a good couple of rounds in the playoffs, but they have lost the first three games of the Eastern Conference Finals.  One fact that I can cling onto before I am completely depressed is that it is a 7 game series, they aren't out yet.  And one time during the season they won every game during the month of March....that's like 14 games in a row, they can do 4, no problem.
But I was still sad tonight when they lost in double overtime, while playing great.  Twitter was not a place to go immediately after the game because there were a lot of "Crosby stinks" comments and I really don't like those.  So, I turned to facebook.  I saw Melanee online and I knew that her Wed night soccer team had a game tonight.  So to help cheer me up, I asked her to describe her goals (she scored two).
Blogging about my own kid is way more fun and meaningful than blogging about sharks or penguins....right????  So here are her goal descriptions....too bad she is not on the Earthquakes, they could really use some goal scoring!!!!! ---
"um well the first one
I made a run right behind the defenders right as one of the guys chipped it between the defenders and I turned and volleyed it right out of the air and around the keeper
it was jozy altidore status
ahaha okay a little different but it was SICK
haha and the second goal I got a pass from someone and turned toward the goal and blasted it with my left foot when no one was expecting it
because one of the guys on my team was making a run and I saw that the defenders were following him so I took the opportunity and shot"

LOVE her, WAY more than Sidney Crosby!  Good Job, Melanee!!!!  Beastin!  Tearin it up!!!!  (tear, like pulling something apart, not tear, like crying)

number 7

Bradley's favorite soccer number is 7.  He gets "7" almost every year.  In the years I've coached, I've given it to him.  In the years other people have coached him he has lucked into it or asked for it and got it.  When he doesn't get 7, he also likes 3.
This season he is a new player on an established team.  A player last year did have #7, but he didn't come back, so it was up for grabs.  Three players wanted it.  I didn't know how they would decide who got what, but I was hoping it would be something like-----who has been to all of the practices so far?Bradley  Who asked for it first? Bradley.  Who paid first?  Bradley.  Who can run fastest in a foot race?  Bradley.  Who can win in a shooting contest? Bradley.  Not something like rock paper scissors or flip a coin.
Well, when asked what number the kids wanted Bradley's top three choices were 7, 3, and 37.  The other kids decided last minute not to fight for it, one took 5, one took 17 and Bradley, without any contest or fight got #7.  He's pretty happy.
They get their uniforms pretty soon.  I'll post a photo after he gets it.  They are solid red, with white alternate jerseys.  He's also really excited to get a sweatshirt.  (when will he wear it now that it's summer?)  Anyone want to hire Bradley to work this summer, this soccer is not going to be cheap?  With all the uniform costs, warm ups, practice shirt, sweat shirts.....not to mention we have to pay the coach for his services, gas, hotel fees!!!!!!!!  Bradley, with his one lawn mowing job, may need to take up a few more jobs....no, not "may", NEEDS TO!
The coach just switched practices from 4:30 to 10:00 in the morning!  That is fine, but Bradley has basketball camp the first week of summer in the morning, then a few weeks later he is going to scout encampment.  Guess his start of the season perfect practice attendance will even out with all the kids who have been missing.  I do feel sorry for the kid who lives in Paradise, whose mom works, how is he going to get to 10 am practices????
Their first tournament is the Peach Classic in Yuba City/Marysville.  It will be Bradley's first ever soccer tournament!  Exciting!  But, even cooler, was back when Melanee played for the Chico Cal Thunder, her first ever soccer tournament was also the Peach Classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!
