my birthday

Andrew accidentally stuck his arm in the cake reaching for a candle
Bradley lit the candles

me and my cake.

I got a few presents from the family, my dad, and the Relief Society President, but my greatest and favorite gift was from my friend who knows me the best---Michelle. A few years ago, she was going to Las Vegas when the NBA all star game was there and she brought me back a shirt from the airport. A few years after that, while I was the world's biggest Kings fan (Michelle knew this because I went to her house a few times to watch games when she wasn't even home or interested to watch) she got me a Kings sweatshirt. Well, my obsessions change by the season and change each year, too, and this year she got me the PERFECT gift for me...a very comfortable, well made, top quality t shirt that says "eat, sleep, SOCCER"!!! And it's in the Earthquakes color (Also PV high school color). She knows me so well. All I ever wear are t shirts and I love soccer. And I eat, sleep, soccer.

First Day of School

Yesterday was the 1st day of school in Chico Unified School District.  We just HAD to take pictures out in front of the palm tree....IT'S A TRADITION!  But too bad it's a mess over there right now!
Bradley is in Junior High this year!  He got new shoes.  The rest of the clothes he wears are the ones William left here when he went on his mission.  Bradley is stylin' this year!

I couldn't get Andrew to stand over by the palm tree, so here he is with the prettier bushes, and the skeet shooter, and the neighbor's car.  He got new shoes, too.

I did not get a good picture of it...because I was standing in the middle of the road and a car was coming, but yesterday the sun was a BIG RED ball.  Perfectly round, nothing else in the sky except smoke.  I wish I was a better photographer because it was really cool to the eye....only sorta cool in a photo...but I wanted to share....if you weren't in Chico, you missed it.  But I really wish the forest fires were all OUT because this smoke is ridiculous and it's so sad that people are losing their homes, properties, animals, belongings!  I'm so sad about it all!!!! Heartbroken!

Earthquakes Lost :(

The Earthquakes played the Montreal Impact today.  The Impact are a new expansion team, but before this game they already had 10 wins, so they are pretty good.  The Quakes have been playing ok lately, but Chris Wondolowski hasn't been scoring and the losses they do have this season are to bad teams...and the losses have taken place at away games (all except 1).  Today's game frustrated me all game long.  This was a game they should have WON, but maybe they came into it thinking that, too.  Anyone can win any game, so they should always come into games prepared for a hard fought battle.  Well, Steven Lenhart was battling, but in a instigator type of way and he earned himself an EARLY red card.

The Impact player also got a red card, but playing 10 v. 10 bothered the Quakes more.  They just left Wondolowski up top all alone, so he had basically 4 guys guarding him any time the ball came near him.  NO SUPPORT.  The Quakes did well with possession, but possession doesn't always score goals.  They just passed it all around (BADGER PASSES), over over over, back over up the side, back down the side, over over....never getting it to the goal or even goal mouth.  The Impact just defeneded.  The Quakes (Wondo, yay) scored on a PK, but the Impact scored a few minutes later to make it 1-1.  So after the teams were reduced to 10 players and tied, the Impact sat back and defended while the Quakes sat back and did Badger passes.  Stressful, but boring soccer.  Right about the time I wanted the Impact to do SOMETHING, to break the monotony, they got a break out and scored.  The dreaded counter attack.  One guy alone beat 4 defenders and passed it to his open teammate, who pushed it past the goalie easily.  Frustrating because the defense seemed lost and none of them stood out as having the fantastic, diving, all in, excellent, skilled, tough stops that they usually do all game long.  And, also, I'm really used to the defense going forward and setting up plays, but this time, they also stayed back and just kicked random balls forward.  Playing 10 v 10 shouldn't change a team THAT MUCH, but the Quakes were definitely taken off their game.  It totally makes me wonder if part of the Impact's game plan was to come out and frustrate Lenhart and try to get him thrown out.  Without Lenhart, all they all had to focus on was Wondo.  Gordon, the other super star forward, was still out with a suspension.  The speedy wingers didn't seem speedy.  The middle guys who usually work so well together seemed to be standing right next to each other.....a n d....I usually dont do this to my favorite players, b u t----Wondo seemed to walk, seemed to not work hard, seemed I'm not going to say disinterested because that word only describes Landon Donovan....but Wondo seemed to not know what to do as the lone striker.  He was lost.  He couldn't get loose from the defense like he usually does.  He didn't chase as fast as usual.  He, since he was the furthest up there, didn't come back at all after he lost or didn't get the ball.  The loss was not his fault, it was the fault of the two guys who got red cards.  yes, later in the game, after Lenhart's red card, Hernandez also got one.  His was stupid.  He chased a guy down on a break away and pulled him down in the box when he couldn't get to him.  Now he cant play next game either.  UGH.  The Quakes looked messed up by trying to play 10 v 10...well, 9 v 10 is way more impossible...and the guy scored on their PK after the red card, so the Quakes had to try to make a come back from 3-1... with a man down.  Well, it didn't happen!  Quakes lost :(

life lately

I haven't blogged much, you may have noticed.  I have been busy doing other stuff like writing to William, working on William's blog a little, wrapping up the baseball season, getting ready for soccer season, school, vacation, and all that fun stuff.  Also, I get really discouraged when hardly any one else blogs, so I boycott mine to punish you who aren't blogging...but that's not fair to my readers like my dad...so here comes a new post!

(it will probably be boring!)

Andrew asks for chicken for dinner every night.  I'm out of ways to cook it so that the rest of us like it...Andrew will eat it in any way, shape or form, so usually I just George Forman grill or crock pot it just like that....but I'd rather have it in a casserole or as an ingredient in something.  Bradley asked for taco soup the other day, which was fine, and tastes good, but it was 106 degrees that day and taco soup is basically chili and WHO eats chili in the summer, no one!  It heats you from the inside out!

Andrew has been bored with the Olympics and all I wanted to do the past 2 weeks was watch the Olympics....and Bradley has been working and has a friend he likes to hang out with, so Andrew constantly asks to have his friends over, but we hardly know any of them, so he usually just plays with Adam and Andrew, his little buddies!  They all get along great.

The Olympics were wonderful.  So fun and exciting to watch.  I lost interest in a lot of it, though, because I really hated NBC's coverage of it all.  I know there were many Olympic channels, but I still missed tons of what I WANTED to see.  I also really disliked that there was a tape delay, so I knew the outcome before I watched the events, that takes away all the excitement.

I made an e mail friend....she came into my life right at about the point when I was thinking that people my age just can't have or be friends!!!!  Us 40 some year old moms are just too busy raising families to have friends.  Also, I was really upset with some things "friends" did or said to me, causing me to just be mad at mankind, in general.  My e mail friend is William's MTC companion's mom.  In his LAST letter from the MTC, in one he mailed to us the day he left, so he was actually gone when we got it, he gave me his companion's mother's e mail address (I asked for it).  I wrote to her introducing myself....and she wrote back, she said she ALMOST deleted my e mail, but right as she was about to do it she recognized the last name....barely.  She opened it, read it, responded, and we've been e mailing back and forth every day since.  I love her!!!!!  She's the best!!!!

Andrew had a little visit to the doctor's office after stepping on a very sharp, very dirty nail.  All they did, though was clean it up and send us on our way with a handful of NOT sticky bandaids.  It swelled up fast and he could not even walk after only 4 hours after it happened, so we had to take him in...and his Tetanus shot was a little past 5 years, so that worried me too.  But he's doing fine now...and after the bee attack a few weeks ago and the nail last week, he basically refuses to go out into the back yard anymore.

The Earthquakes are still playing well.  They struggle, it seems, all game long, dominating while failing to capitalize, then they make these grand comebacks at the very end of games to either tie or win them just about every time.  So thrilling and amazing and UNbelievable.  I like being a fan of a winning team!  I hope they continue to succeed, surprise, and WIN.

School starts Monday, Aug 20th.  Bradley gets his Jr High schedule tomorrow.  Andrew has already found out that he's in the 5th grade class we wanted him to be in.

Well, High School Musical is on, I better go watch it...this used to be my favorite Disney movie until they made Lemonade Mouth!

USWNT vs. Canada Olympic Soccer

I watched the United States Women's team play Canada in soccer this afternoon.  I have actually watched all the women's olympic soccer games that have been televised.  I've watched a lot of the behind the scenes stuff, the interviews, etc....and no matter how much I love U.S. soccer and America, some of the "women" on the team have really been starting to bug me.  A few of them are too arrogant for their own good and others are too gay for their own good.  So, a part of me was hoping they'd lose today to knock them down a peg....but as the game went on, by the end, I was cheering out loud, high fiving, when the final goal was scored.

The first little part of the game was ALL USA.  They had the ball on offense and Canada could barely touch it.  Canada came out fouling everyone in sight.  But.....guess what....CANADA scored FIRST.  It was a beautiful play by Canada, if you are a Canada fan, but if you have a critical USA eye, you could see all the break downs all down the field...over commitments, failure to track back, and poor goal keeping.  But really it was great passing, great MOVES, and a beautiful shot to score the first goal.  The rest of the first half was played with the USA in shock and off their game.  1-0 Canada at the half.  Second half starts with a goal for the USA on a corner kick.  The "girl" taking the kick (notice how I've used "women" and "girl" in "quotes").....kicked it near post and it bounced off a bunch a Canadians with a bunch of USAicans holding and blocking and roughing.....it was "unassisted" but it WOULD NOT have gone in if ANY Canadian would have stood on the back post....no one was there...isn't there supposed to be someone there????  YES!

The next goal in the game was scored by the Canadians best player Christine Sinclair.  It was her second goal of the game.  This one was a header!  It was WELL PLACED and a rocket....goalie didn't have a chance.  Sinclair also had two people covering her, so that made the goal even more awesome!

USA scored the next goal to make it 2-2.  It was scored by the same person who scored the corner kick goal....Megan Rapinoe (who is from Redding).  Her shot was from outside the box, towards the right side of the field, and went to the left goal post, hit the left post, then the right post, and over the goal line.  GREAT SHOT.  Exciting game.

The next goal was SINCLAIR AGAIN...with another header.  On this goal, just like and earlier American one....if a player, ANY player, would have been standing at the post....STANDING....the shot wouldn't have gone in.  PEOPLE, stay at the posts on corner kicks!  Dont leave until instructed to!!!

The game still had 10 minutes or so to go then, so I didn't really think it was over...but I did not like the next goal at all....even though it was for the USA.  The Canadian goalie took too long to punt the ball (there is a 6 second rule (which I have NEVER seen enforced)...so the ref awarded the USA a free, indirect kick INSIDE the box.  The US took this kick and kicked it RIGHT INTO THE WALL....which caused a handball, which gave the US a PK, which Abby Wambach scored on!  3-3...tie score.

Game ends.  First overtime ends.  Second overtime is just about over.  TONS of players have been pounded and hurt on both sides.  The whole game had been action packed and physical....the players were hurt, exhausted, and done, but they did not stop trying...their hardest......and with less than 30 seconds left of the 3 minutes of OVERTIME STOPPAGE TIME.....Alex Morgan jumped sooner and higher than all the rest on a cross...and headed the ball above the goalie, for the GAME WINNING GOAL.  USA won 4-3.  Now they play Japan for the Gold Medal Game.  It is a rematch of the Women's World Cup final.

THE UNITED STATES JUST SIDNEY CROSBY-ED CANADA!

And Bradley wrote on Facebook, "Marry me Alex Morgan"!

Music

Lately, I have been listening to my "playlist"...it is mostly made up of songs that I've used on my blog over the years.  I used to either put my favorite song on first, so people would hear it when they came to my blog or sometimes I'd put a song to go with the top post, other times it was just my favorite song of the day....sometimes the kids would put on their favorite songs.

But now, as I listen to the songs, a lot of them STRONGLY bring back feelings/emotions.  Some are songs that either William added (Mistletoe, Justin Beiber) or he practiced when he was taking guitar (Adam's Song)...or that he danced to (Party Rock), or fist pumped to (Club Cant Handle Me).  Or there are a ton of songs that I listened to after Melanee first went off to college (I'm Yours & How 6 Songs Collide) or were popular during her soccer season (Party in the USA).  There are songs I used to make soccer DVD's (Build Me Up Buttercup, Get Low, & Our Song).  There are hockey songs (Chelsea Dagger).  There is definitely and odd assortment of songs, but each and EVERY song on there evokes some feeling or another.  I like music.  With my hearing loss, I need to use head phones (ear phones) to hear it all, but when I do, I really enjoy it!

Baseball Cupcakes

Today was our last baseball practice, so I wanted to bake treats of some sort.  One day I saw someone post some baseball cupcakes on Facebook, so I stole the idea for my team....Andrew helped me make them!

this is what they were
supposed to look like!

This is what ours turned out like!

Dinner Guests

We had the missionaries over for dinner tonight.

Hair Cut

Andrew (Guymon) got a haircut today...I wanted to blog about it, so I took a picture....didn't notice the trash can or pallets or two extra kids in the background....just kidding, I told Adam and Andrew (the other Andrew) to get in the picture
 (you know---to make it cuter!!!)
