Family Home Evening

First we went to some friend's house to help them put a roof on their new garage.

Then we went to Big Als for ice cream cones. (dipped in chocolate)

Andrew thought it was funny that the sign says "ur" (as is "your") shakes are triple thick.

Airport Phone call

We just got to talk to William from the Salt Lake City airport. It was a little crazy at first because Scott was at work, so I wanted to get in a conference call so we could BOTH talk. Andrew had answered the phone so he got to talk to William first. Andrew was sooooo excited! You should have seen the smile on Anrew's face! I'm glad Andrew answered!!!! Then after I got on the phone, I asked William the phone number of his pay phone so that I could use my cell phone to call Scott, then William....so we could all be on a 3 way call....but that was a DUMBBBBBB idea, because I CAN'T hear and so I accidentally wrote down William's number wrong! SOOOO, when I called him back it was some lady, I called her three times, then tried to call different numbers near what I wrote...but finally William called us back, and gave the number to me again, (I had reversed a 9 and a 3)....so it worked the next time...we got to talk...we probably talked for near a half hour. It was great to hear his voice. His voice hasn't changed a bit. He sounded great!  His flight is going directly to Paris, but since the mission home is in Versailles, their luggage will be taken there by some vans or trucks and the missionaries will get to go into actual Paris for sight seeing and meeting people. They should arrive at the airport at 11:05 am France time.

They are traveling on this flight with a group of Elders/Sisters who are on their way to Hungary. Those missionaries will have another flight after the one to Paris. The group that is going to Lyon, France had to leave at 8 am, they were flying to New York, then London, then Geneva, then taking a train to Lyon...they will take a lot longer to get to where they are going. William's bags were both 45 pounds. He is sitting in seat 35 A...which is a window seat! He has his camera with him, but it's strapped to his belt! He didn't know until TODAY that he got his VISA, but everyone in the group got theirs, too.

do all Guymon pictures
have CREEPER hands in them???
He spoke some French to us. It is a beautiful language. He asked for us to pray for the Paris temple to be built.

He said the mission president has both written to him in a letter and an e mail. The mission president said the missionary work over there in France is thirving right now! He said that a part of his mission is Luxembourg and he didn't know that when he first got his call.

He talked about his very first day at the MTC, when he was with a huge group of brand new scared awkward elders....they were being guided into the big meeting area room when he heard some people yell, loudly "Neil Diamond, Paris France"....he thought that kinda sounded like Wil Guymon, so he looked around to see where it was coming from and it was his friend Spud Chelson and Spud's companion! What a happy reunion!!! William and Spud have had MANY adventures together through their teenaged years, it's cool that they could add some MTC memories to those past memories!

He said there is a lot of crazy fun stuff always happening at the MTC and even though it is a very spiritual place, there is always irreverance taking place (in fun, not in a bad way) somewhere or another. He also said every time anyone tries to take a picture there....someone photo bombs the picture! EVERY TIME....and so I asked him if he had done that to others, he first answered, "no way" but quickly changed it to "yeah" and laughed.

He told us a little about his San Francisco trip. He said they came in from the North and he could see the Sutter Buttes from far off. He said at the French Consulate they asked him questions in French and he answered in English and they understood him. He said as a group they went to Pier 39, ate clam chowder, went to the Giradelli chocolate place, saw where the Giant play, saw Candlestick park, and went to a museum...(I think it was for the bridge).

He said he didn't really drink Windex...he just used the Windex to clean his waterbottle....and must not have rinsed it out enough, even though he rinsed and rinsed and rinsed....the water still taste like Windex, but he drank it because he was super thirsty.

He said that one of his teacher's might come to Chico for a visit.
I told him about a guy on the Sharks who is dating Tiger Wood's ex wife! and he laughed a lot.
He said the people in the mail room were watching the men's team volleyball olympics and he really wanted to stay and watch!
He told us that his friend Elder Chandler (SVU cross country runner) had been at the MTC waiting and waiting to get his VISA to go to somewhere like outer mongolia (not really, but I can't remember where) but since it didn't come and didn't come, he was reassigned until it comes to Carlsbad, CA. He told me that he does know the two Elders whose mom's I made friends with in an e mail group.

He said that every building at the MTC has stairs and that he is not very good at walking up (or down) stairs, so he fell a lot and rolled his ankles a lot and now his ankle clicks all the time!

He got the stuff I sent him and loves the owl tie.

He wanted to talk to Bradley and Melanee, but Melanee was working and Bradley was swimming at a friends house.

He was hungry and wanted to eat before getting on the plane, so we let him go. I hope he got something to eat...he said the line was long....I KNOW the food will have been EXPENSIVE....but I still really hope he got something!

MLS All Star Game

Before I get into my post here I wanted to share two photos and say----What a difference it makes to be on the same team, as to being on opposing teams.  Haha.  Look at Chris Wondolowski a few months ago when the Quakes played the Red Bulls....looks like he doesn't like Henry all that much, then there the are today, hugging and happy, the past sure does fade quick when two players combine on a goal!  But I think it's awesome, and I think (it looks like, I don't KNOW from experience) that Chris Wondolowski gives the BEST hugs.  I have said it here before, but hockey hugs are pretty cool with the slamming a guy into the glass and all, but soccer hugs are just the absolute coolest thing ever because they hug so tight and smile so big and really mean it!
The MLS All Star game is a unique event.  They don't play east vs. west, one league vs the other, or even do a playground style selection like the NHL, they just form one team and together play against the best Premier league team.  The last two years, the MLS got beat pretty easily.  But not this year.  They actually WON the game 3-2.  It looked like it was about to be a tie game, in which they would need to have Penalty Kicks to figure out the "winner", but in stoppage time the MLS scored their third and winning goal.  The dude who scored the game winner is a guy I don't particularly like, but I cheered anyway, because I wanted them to win.  Chris Wondolowski scored the first goal of the match.  He has the biggest smile after he scores, I love it!!!  I was happy for him and happy for MLS.  The coach was DC United's coach and he did a fairly good job, but one of the Sporting KC guys got hurt and the coach probably should have taken him out faster.  And the guy from the Whitecaps, Jay DeMerit (I like him, too) played the WHOLE game, while his team has a really important game on Friday and his team will need him to be fresh.
One interesting thing, the players all (maybe not ALL) wore a device that kept track of things like how far they ran, their top speed, their work level, etc....it was interesting to see.  At one point Corrales (the old guy from the Quakes) meter read that he was going 25 mph, haha, he must have been on a golf cart riding around on the sidelines, he's the slowest player on the planet.  Another guy had the same work level as the GOALIE, haha!  One of the Quakes ran the most miles...it was like 3 something.  All very interesting stuff!
I'm glad there was an All Star game, but I'm ready and interested to see how the rest of the season turns out!  GO QUAKES!!!

look alike??

I had the computer on this morning with this picture of Landon Donovan on the screen.  Andrew went over to the computer and said, "Hey, doesn't Dax look like Landon Donovan?"  I thought about it a bit, then went looking for a picture of Dax....all I could find were wedding photos, where his smile was SO BIG, it made him look unusually happpppy, and this picture of Dono is serious, so I found a serious picture of Dax.....so, what do you think????

scruff

I am a believer in the concept that everyone is entitled to their opinion as to what is attractive.  But since this is my place for having an opinion I am going to speak out (strongly) against facial hair.

Yes, I do understand that shaving is a hassle.  I know that it takes time.  I know that it hurts.  That's why I rarely shave my legs!  So, maybe I shouldn't be one to criticize, but come on guys, you look terrible when you have whiskers!
Facial hair is UGLY {ugh-lee}!  Sloppy!  Hideous!  Repulsive!  Appalling!  BEASTLY!

I do not like whiskers, mustaches, beards, (not even playoff beards), goatees, mutton chops, long side burns, bushy eye brows, nose hair, any stray hairs anywhere on faces!  How can you men who fail to shave on a daily basis think that a hidden face looks good?

Not only is facial hair unattractive, it hurts women's sensitive lips, so if you want kisses, shave!

I have collected a few examples to prove my point that clean shaven is the best look on EVERYBODY!
Scott Guymon

Chris Wondolowski

Sidney Crosby

Patrick Marleau

Dustin Brown

ok, he's cute BOTH ways!

Shooting

Scott has a friend who has a shooting range, so he took the boys there tonight for Family Home Evening, while I stayed home and watched YouTube videos of "Call Me Maybe"....haha!!!!

One Mile swimming "pool"

Where do you take your kids on 100 degree days after they spend an hour over at the school playing basketball and they are hot???   One Mile!  That's where we go!  Us and the homeless bathers and the other townfolk who have no where else to go in the heat!

Bradley's friend did NOT want his picture taken "for the blog".  He said, "What's a blog?  Is that like Facebook?".....  haha....NO!

Quakes Lose

Even though NONE of you care...and I didn't get the Earthquake blogging job...I still have an opinion on this game.  Twitter only gives me 140 characters (and my game commentary is longer than that) and on Facebook, not one of my "friends" would ever comment back, so I'm coming here to write about the latest Quake game.

Well, as you can tell from this title, the Quakes lost!  They didn't deserve the win, but I was really hoping for a tie.  I was also really hoping for a Chris Wondolowski goal, but I didn't get either!  So I am sad.

I think the Quakes lost for many reasons---

1.)  they play bad on astro turf.  That's proven in their astro turf  win loss record, but it was also obvious in the game today.  Guys were slipping all over the place, they didn't time their headers correct (the bounces went REALLY high), and they had a terrible first touch!

2.)  The coach started Simon Dawkins, where Corrales or Salinas usually plays.  Dawkins didn't communicate or link with anybody.  A lot of balls bounced off of him and went to the Whitecaps.  He didn't get back and help on defense.  He didn't get up and help on offense.  He was lost.  The biggest thing was his working with his teammates....I could tell he was a new insert into the line up and it hurt the team's flow.  I am not a Corrales fan, but I would have rather seen him on the pitch today.

3.)  Sam Cronin DID foul the Whitecap guy in the box.  The ref made the correct call.  Quake fans, if that would have happened to the Quakes, you would have clearly said it was a foul, so don't try to say it wasn't!  Cronin needs to back off once in a while.  He plays too rough or hacking sometimes.

4.)  If Alan Gordon limps so much that we can see it on tv, even though he waves to the sidelines that he's ok, its obvious that he isn't...so, coach, do not waste your subs on Chavez, who is playing his heart out or Baca, who is a threat on both offense and defense.  Take out the injured dude!

5.)  The Quakes need to play THEIR game, not the LONG ball over the top and hope someone runs to it....because the Whitecaps stepped in front of those balls EVERY SINGLE TIME.  Work the ball, keep possession, relax!

Losing is NO fun!!!!

7/21/12

swimming

Andrew has been able to swim in a lot of different pools this summer, but his favorite is still the Jones's pool.... (it has a diving board and a deep Deep-End).   Today (and yesterday) we got to go swim in a VERY nice pool in exchange for a little garden watering.  Good trade!!!!

Tag 2nd

Andrew had his 6th baseball game of the season today.  Since we dont keep score, I have no idea who won, but by the amounts of outs made, I'd have to say with an educated and unbiased guess, that we won.  Andrew hit a home run on his first pitch on his first at bat.  He also hit a triple right way down the 3rd base line and hit two singles.  He probably deserved the "game ball" because besides his awesome hitting, he also made about 6 outs out in the field.  Scott came and watched the game, so I got more pictures than usual!

The coaches are the umpires when their team is out in the field, so I can kind of direct traffic when I am out there.  On one play our only girl was playing second base and I told her to "tag second", which she did, she used the ball in her hand and bent over and tagged 2nd base with the ball!  (That'll work!)

Andrew made another spectacular throw from 3rd base to 1st, which the 1st baseman did not catch.

It was a good game.  We only had 6 players show up, though, so that makes me sad and mad.  Maybe next week we can get them all out there at the same time!

7/20/12

more work

After we got all the rocks out of the truck, we went to another one of Scott's extra side jobs and he and Bradley worked in the orchard a bit, then the boys got a tractor ride.  I watered the garden while Andrew swam in the pool!  It was a good evening together!

rock delivery

Scott and the boys have been delivering rocks and spreading them for the past few evenings at the doctor who he works for's house.  I came with him today and mostly just took pictures!  The boys climbed the tree when they were all done!

twitter fun

Yesterday I had a fun day on Twitter.  First I twittered to Jonathan Bornstein after he tweeted in Spanish.  I wrote, : cool, thanks for sharing...but I wish you would twitter in english."  He wrote back and said to me---“   i Will Defintely tweet in English also. 4 u "

It made me SO happy!!!  Thrilled!!!!  I just really like him and know that he has 27,THOUSAND fans...and he took time to write to ME.  It's also funny/cute that his "i" is lower case, but Will and Definitely are capitalized...and I also really like the "4 u" part!  (But he spelled "defintely" wrong!!!)

The night before, during the Earthquakes game, Stephen Wondolowski tweeted-
@sjwondolowskiNo little kids playing at half tonight? I'm kinda getting bored watching Bingham juggle

so I wrote to him--

So that was also super exciting to me.  A famous guy's BROTHER talked to me!

Then later in the day yesterday---- the only way I have to follow the Sacramento Summer League games is via Twitter.  One of the guys I follow is the Sacramento Bee reporter Jason Jones.  He ONLY tweets negative things about Jimmer.  ONLY!  Sometimes we'll get that Jimmer is 3 of 6 on his shots or something like that, but the previous tweets were always his missed shots, or his dribbling into trouble, or his turning the ball over, or his making poor decisions, or him not using his teammates, that kind of stuff.  So towards the end of the game, Jason Jones wrote something such as "this was Jimmers best summer league performance".  So I wrote to him "Wow, you finally say something positive."  He asked me what I meant so I wrote, "you are especially negative toward Jimmer".   He was shocked because he said he gets accused of going easy Jimmer by others.  So he "re tweeted" my tweet, which makes it so that ALL of his readers can see what I wrote, so for the rest of the evening Jimmer haters tweeted me that Jimmer is lousy and stuff like that!  Thanks Jason Jones, thanks a lot!  haha!!!!

not swimming

The kids like to go "swimming" but they RARELY "swim" all they do is grab onto each other and dunk each other for hours.  They seem to be having fun...but it sure isn't swimming.  At the pool we went to yesterday they had a basketball hoop, so there was a bit of "basketball" playing with a lot of dunking/tackling...but still no real swimming.  Is this normal????

Almost Cried

Only a few of you will understand why I picked this picture.  (Comment if you are one of them!!!!)

So, the Earthquakes had a game today. It was against FC Dallas. (The FC is unnecessary and the nick name "the Hoops" or "hoops" is super lame, so from here on out I'm just going to call them Dallas.) Dallas tied the Quakes last time and kept them from scoring. Dallas plays a smother or holding kind of game. San Jose seems to always have trouble against them. Last year in the final game of the season, the Quakes played Dallas and Chris Wondolowski was trying to score to win the golden boot and he just couldn't. And, last time the Quakes played Dallas (about a week ago) they couldn't do anything again! Infuriating....BUT, tonight the Quakes scored fairly early in the match. That was so exciting. I always like my team to score first because come backs are so difficult and rare in soccer.
The Quakes scored the second goal also. The second goal came right before half time. When the ball was first kicked for the pass, I actually said out loud to the tv "Get a head on that, you are taller than EVERYBODY". I was talking to Alan Gordon, when he jumped, rising far above everyone else, he headed the ball in! 2-0, going into half time is soooooooo stress relieving, especially since Dallas was actually playing VERY well. They had EIGHT corner kicks in the first half. (I guess if they were playing "very" well, they would have scored on some of those, so maybe they weren't playing all that well!) But Dallas was scaring me with all their chances and play right up near San Jose's goal. I was hoping half time would help the Quakes, but I also KNEW that the 2-0 scoreline was very favoring!

Second half was played better. More Earthquake possession and they seemed calmer, more confident, trying hard, not giving Dallas any real space. (But the Quakes LOVE the pass back, and I do vividly remember Wally once saying "pass the way you are facing"..and.."make the easy pass", so I know that passing the ball back is an OK thing to do, but Dallas has watched film or something, because they picked of a ton of those pass back attempts.)

I don't want to make this too long because I know my readers are going to look at the picture, see soccer, then look at the length, then just skip all this mumbo jumbo....but I do want to get to the Penalty Kick portion of this blog so you can find out why I almost cried.

Dallas had a hand ball in the box. Wondo took the PK. He made it. The ref called it back, saying a Quake player infringed into the box too early. So Chris had to take the kick again, but on the second time, the keeper stopped the shot, Chris didn't even get to the rebound!!!! (Like how I'm calling him Chris now....went from Wondolowski, when I was just an average Quakes fan, then Wondo when I was a Wondo fan, now it's Chris, since I feel like he's a friend!) (I wrote him a fan mail type letter the other day...we'll see if he's a "friend" for real if he writes back!) (Hope I don't have to wait till he's traded like I did when Dany Heatley got traded!)

So Chris missed (after making) and he just looked SO sad. I know he was sad, it's like having a goal taken away. It HURTS. Any time ANYONE misses a PK they feel awful....ANYTIME!!! But this was hard to stomach, because he made the first one and mostly because he's in a race to try to break a record, and he pretty much has to score a goal a game in just about all the rest of his games to do it!!!

But the team was winning, and I KNOW that's really why he plays the game. The win is what they want....records and golden boots are all secondary to championships!!!!

Since the Quakes were up 2-0, they seemed to play different after the missed PK. They actually seemed like they were trying to get Chris a goal by forcing passes to him and playing a crazy fast pace, which DID not work and IS NOT their style. And they paid the price for it, too. In the 89th minute, after a 5 or 10 minute FLURRY of Dallas chances, Dallas scored! The commentator even said "GAME ON" right then....and it felt like that, too. Even though the Quakes lead the WHOLE game, it still felt like Dallas could strike again at any second. And then it happened....a PK for DALLAS. One of their players was taken down in the box. It was at the 92nd minute, with 4 minutes of stoppage time, so the game was SOOOOO OVER....but the injured guy lay on the ground for 2 full minutes. The guy taking the shot was a defender who had never scored a goal in the MLS. And he SKY-ED it up over the top of the cross bar. Basically he lost the tie for the team. So, as bad as I felt for Chris earlier....and as HAPPY I WAS for a Quake WIN...I felt so horrible for this guy! He must have felt so bad! Poor dude!

So, the Quakes can and do, I'm sure, feel very lucky about that win. And they always seem to learn from their mistakes....so I'm thinking the forcing the ball to Chris or kicking back since they are winning 2-0 will not happen again.

Anyway, I used to always end my Sharks commentary with GO SHARKS!!!! So, GO QUAKES!

I am LOVING this season!!!! (I wish William was here to watch with me!!!!)

Quakes

The Earthquakes had a game on Saturday.  I wanted to watch it because I am a Quakes fan, but I also wanted to watch it in case I get the Total MLS blogging "job".  But the way the day worked out, we were going to be at the lake Jet Skiing during the game.  Well, I don't really like to jet ski anymore.  I don't like to get all wet.  I can't find my bathing suit.  I don't like looking into the sun from the shore.  I don't like the long drive to the lake.  I don't like the worry of watching my family out there with the danger of crashing or breaking down at any moment.  So, even though I should have went to sit on the shore, visit with Paige, and help watch the kids, I stayed home.  I am SO glad I did because the game was AWESOME!!!  It was the battle for "Best of the West" or for first place.  Whoever won would have the most points in the MLS.  So, pretty important game.  The Quakes were playing Real Salt Lake.  RSL is a great team.  They have been strong for years now.  So far this season the Quakes have beat them twice.  The first time on a foul that I'm sure RSL thought was UNFAIR!  The second on a lot of bad luck for RSL in that they had the ball the whole game, they lead in every stat category, and the Quakes did all their scoring right at the VERY end of the game...so in what looked like a win for RSL, then a tie, turned into a loss.  So, of course, RSL probably HATES the Quakes and surely wanted revenge on them.  I knew it would be a hard fought game.  I did not want to miss it.
The game was hard fought in every way.  Both teams trying hard and both teams "fighting".  The Earthquakes scored first.  It was so exciting.  They had already missed all of their opportunities before the goal, so it was getting a little discouraging.  I knew if RSL went into half time at 0-0 they would be happy because they really hadn't done anything in the first half, while the Quakes were just missing their chances.  But the goal was really cool.  I think it was the Quakes SKILL that scored the goal, but I'm SURE RSL fans would say that either RSL defenders blew their coverage or they might TRY to claim offsides!  The RSL player yelling and pointing to offsides the most was the one HOLDING him onsides.  Anyway, it was a corner kick that went out wide, it was shot, but went off another Quakes player towards the far post where Chris Wondolowski eluded his defender and did a diving header into the goal!  1-0 Quakes.  Leading the game is a great feeling because so many times this season the Quakes have had to come from behind.  I was happy, anyway.  There are some huge threats on RSL, like the guy last week who scored a hat trick.  Scary.  But the Quakes defense was strong and the whole first half RSL really didn't test the goalie AT ALL....I think he touched the ball once.  The Quakes did a lot of passing and attempted passing and they really dont play selfish.  It seemed like RSL didn't pass or control the ball like they normally do.  Also, they would shoot from bad angles instead of pass.  (Dumb!)  The Quakes went into half time 1-0.  It could have been 3 or 4 to 0, but I'm SURE they were all happy with the score!  And, RSL was probably happy, too, knowing it could have been worse.  Also, they, like I keep saying, are a great team, 1-0 to them is close.
After half time was over, the game quickly changed because of a scuffle mid field with pretty much every one involved.  It started with Sam Cronin doing a tackle, maybe a foul, but not really "illegal".  The guy he tackled stayed on the ground.  RSL, Kyle Beckerman, especially, thought the Quakes should kick the ball out of bounds rather than play on with an injured guy down.  He got mad.  He went after Cronin with pushing and shoving and words.  That's when the other players joined in.  One guy even put his hands to the throat of Cronin!  Quite a few players got yellow cards from the ref.  Viewers at home did NOT get a good view of anything that happened because the cameras kept going too close up and showing the wrong scuffles.  It was frustrating for me, I wanted one main camera to pan back and just show it all so we could just watch what we wanted.  Beckerman got ejected.  So RSL had to play the rest of the game without their central midfielder, their captain, had to play a player down the rest of the game, AND Beckerman can't play in the next game.  That made things so hard for RSL.  It would not be IMPOSSIBLE to mount a grand comeback...but it would be a lot harder to do with only 10 players.
Soon after the ejection, the Quakes had another corner kick and scored again.  Alan Gordan scored the goal, but really the ball just bounced off of his knees/shins into the goal, he didn't really work for it or need any skill other than just stand there to score that goal, but there are no extra points for beauty, so it was an AWESOME goal.  Loved it.  Victor Bernardez took the original shot on that goal, which hit the post, before banging into Gordon's legs, into the goal.  I knew 2-0 would make RSL's comeback even that more difficult.  Wondo scored the next goal.  He's awesome. (have I ever said that before).  He shot this goal in the near post or short side, which is sooooo difficult because the goalie was giving him so little space.  He just eluded his defender and re-directed a shot by Shea Salinas.  Simon Dawkins was back with the team after being injured for a while, which made me happy because the Quakes have lost a lot of players recently.  Soon after Dawkins was subbed into the game, he scored a goal.  And the last goal, Dillion (and other RSL fans, I'm sure) thought should have been offsides, but Wondo just slipped past both defenders on a perfectly timed and placed pass and went one on one with Rimando, RSL's keeper, and put the shot away.  Hat Trick!  Game OVER.
Andrew wanted to change the channel the second was over, but I said, "let me keep watching, I want to see if they interview Wondo"...which they did.  He is so polite and gracious.  He said it was his team's mid field who won the game for them.  He thanked and shook the hand of the interviewer BEFORE the interviewer thanked him.  And his smile the whole time was HUGE.  Loved it!
Then he went along the stands and shook MANY, many fans hands.
He's great.  The whole team played great.  It was a fun game to watch!
Sorry Dillon and Joseph and other RSL fans!

Cousins!

BASEBALL WEEK #5

I really enjoy my baseball team, especially because Andrew is having so much fun...but I also know that it's definitely time to get him on a "real" team because I can tell he's very (VERY) frustrated with his teammates, when he throws them a perfect ball and they dont catch it or when they dont throw it to the correct base, or when they just dont try, he gets so upset.  I am super encouraging to everyone, but I can totally understand Andrew's frustration with his teammates.
He hit fine today, but all four hits were singles, so in his mind it was his worst game.  He did catch a line drive for an out and got a double play because the runner next to him left the base.  He also did a diving attempt at a catch in the outfield, but he missed it...he did get his glove on it, though and stopped it from going past him.  I wish I could clone him and have him play every position.  (His cleats from spring soccer season (5 months ago) are now too small for him...so he wore WILLIAM'S cleats!!!!!  (He's TEN years old.  His feet are HUGE.)

7/13/12

summer of the cousins

There wasn't a Guymon family reunion this year, but I think the Guymon cousins have seen each other more this year than any other year EVER.  Mark and his family came to Chico for Melanee's wedding.  Melanee and Dax spent 4th of July with MaryAnne and her family.  Last week we spent a day with Trish and her kids.  When William went to Utah a day early, Becky and her family picked him up, took care of him for the day and they all even got in a visit with Jonathan's family.  Then this week Mark's family visited with all the Utah Guymons and are now on there way to Chico to visit us.  Then in August, we are going to San Diego to see them again.  THAT is a lot of Guymon visiting!  (If we add in Grandparent visits over the year---they came out for William's graduation, Melanee's wedding, and just last month they were here again just because they like us!)

It's awesome.  I have great childhood memories of my cousins, I've always wanted that for my kids!  It's happening!  Soooo cool!

I'll post some pictures after tomorrow!!!!

Mad at the ESPYs

I know "award shows" are popularity contests that can't really be considered fair or real....but I watched tonight's ESPYs anyway.  I was hoping to see Chris Wondolowski and Sidney Crosby win awards...but after a while (it was on for THREE hours) I just HOPED to SEE Chris or Sidney.  As you know, in America, the top sports are Football, Basketball, and Baseball...so any award where football players were going up against golfers or basketball players were going up against snowboarders or baseball players were going against soccer players....it didn't really matter AT ALL what the achievement was, the "contestant" from the "BIG" sport always won.  Not really fair and not really accurate of who was most deserving.  The reason I put "contestant" in those funny quote thingies was because when someone from the Detroit Lions, who I had NEVER even heard of...so how could he win something...got up to accept his award and say his speech..he said something like--"Congratulations to the other CONTESTANTS"  haha, just a very funny use of the word in that situation.

So, I watched and watched and ENDURED....waiting and waiting for them to announce the winner of the MLS player of the year.  But as it got closer and closer to 9:00 and towards the end they had already announced the male athlete of the year and the Team of the Year...I kinda knew the "MLS" award must have been one of those ones they did off air or before the actual show.  So I searched Twitter (not Google like Krisha or Yahoo like Bradley, I get my info on Twitter) and I found out that DAVID BECKHAM won the award.  Gross!  Not deserving, AT ALL.  Yeah, sure, I think his team did do better than the Quakes last year...but this was NOT a "team" award.....it was a "BEST PLAYER" award and Beckham is NOT the MLS best player, not even the top 4.  He might be the "MOST PAID" but he shouldn't be winning ESPY awards.  Just cuz he plays for Los Angeles or because his wife is a Spice Girl or he's in underwear ads or he's a Laker's fan or he has a good accent or he's the only one with a movie named after him...but he is NOT the best player in Major League Soccer.  Yes, I wanted Wondo to win, but I know I would have been less upset if DeRosario or Davis would have won, less than I am that Beckham won!

I watched all of the show, even the commercials, I didn't even take my eyes off the set, and I didn't see Wondo even ONCE, but luckily I read Twitter because one of my Twitter friends has a DVR, a pause button, and better eyes than me because guess who did get ONE second of air time--- barely.  If you look over the shoulder of the large lady in the right front...you can see Chris!  He's with Brad Davis...who, at one point, was Chris teammate and friend and also Dewayne DeRosario's teammate/friend (in Houston)....can you imagine if they were all teammates on the Quakes right now???  Or if they were all still on Houston and Houston still had Stuart Holden and Geoff Cameron?  They'd be the Miami Heat of MLS!

And I never did see Sidney Crosby!  I really thought he'd be there because I know he trains in Los Angeles...but maybe these lame award shows are not important to him!  Hopefully he's somewhere either vacationing or working out and not having head aches!

***  If you are reading this far---the Quakes had practice yesterday and Wondolowski was the last one on the training field after a long hard practice, still working on something, long after all the others had left, and he was the only one who had a flight to catch to go to LA.  I take that as he is really a hard worker who always works to improve.  He's one of the good guys.  I've never heard him in an interview take credit for anything, he always compliments his teammates.

One Mile

We went to One Mile to get escape from the heat.  The boys had fun swimming, looking at the fish, and climbing.  Glad I brought my camera!  It was nice to get out of the house!

Swimming

We (they) went swimming last night.  I get Andrew asking me ALL DAY LONG "can we go swimming", so whenever we get a chance, we take him.  But before we let them swim, they had to help Scott out in the orchard cleaning up sticks (I helped, too).  Another heat wave is beginning, so let's see if I can convince Andrew that the creek or One Mile are the same as a swimming pool!!!

Giant Pumpkins

Scott has a fascination with growing GIANT pumpkins.  He's trying them again this year.  The ones he planted at our garden at the Watt's house were destroyed by underground pests...but the ones at the Pope's house are doing great.  These might even beat Jeni Olson's this year???  Maybe she'll make us a pie out of ours???

Lord of the Dance

Here's something you might not know about me....way back, I didn't used to be a Sharks fan.  I wasn't even a huge soccer fan.  Sure I played soccer.  And, yeah, I liked to watch football and follow baseball.  But really, when I was younger I wasn't the sports fanatic that I am today.
I remember a time, we lived at the Rio Lindo apartments.  Melanee was little and William may or may not have been born yet.  It was back when they used to have video stores where you could check out movie videos.  I don't like repeats, never have, but there were these two videos that I didn't mind watching...over and over and over....I'd really enjoyed them.  One was River Dance.  Yes, that is a CLASSIC....but my very, VERY favorite was "Lord of the Dance".  I could watch that, mesmerizer, all day.
Well, today, I heard that Shania Twain song, "Don't be Stupid".  *Yes, I used to also LOVE Shania Twain music.  And, no, I don't like that word "stupid" very much....but that song has a BUNCH of violins in it and reminds me of Irish dancers.
I can now day dream of being a hockey player or playing in a World Cup, but back then I'd close my eyes and pretend I could dance like THAT!  HOW DO they do that?!!?!!!  What talent!!!!!  (Look it up on YouTube if you have never seen parts of it!!!!!)

This Past Week

Last week was odd with the trip to Roseville and the 4th of July holiday in the middle of the week (and no baseball practice or game).  Every day kept feeling like a Saturday.  Then it seemed like Sunday never came.    Now it's Sunday and the lesson I was so excited about (homemade play dough) was a flop, then I had a bad headache, and it's just HOT today...so I'm fairly miserable.

I also got a bad virus on my laptop, so that was depressing.  I'm still sorting out all our finances after the stealing of my purse, which is also maddening.

Bradley and Andrew have been working as a clean up crew for one of our friends who is a hoarder, who is trying to move....so there's lots of work to do.  They hate the job, but what other way, really, is there for a 10 year old and a 12 year old to make money????  Andrew made $40 last week....FORTY bucks for a 10 year old is A LOT!!!!  And they are learning about hard work.  It's all good for them.

Bradley got to go on his first temple trip yesterday.  Scott was one of the leaders who took the kids.  Here are the boys who went, the girls were in a different car.  They got to stop at In N Out on the way home, so that made them happy.  (Bradley wore his "wedding" tie!)

I am still really missing William....but I know that is "normal" for moms.

I want to also blog a little about something that is of no interest to ANYONE, (but I wish is was!!!!)--- The San Jose Earthquakes!  Oh boy, they lost the last two games!  It's semi heartbreaking watching them fall apart.  It's sad for me as a fan, but I really feel bad for them.  Soccer is "the Beautiful game" but it can also be really (REALLY) ugly, when things aren't clicking and when behind the scenes things are unraveling.  I hope they can get things back on track.  I know the All Star break is coming up and that a few of the Quakes made the All Star team.  It's an honor for them, and I even voted for Chris Wondolowski....but I kinda wish they could get a rest and break, instead of having to travel and play more!

4th of July

We didn't have plans for the 4th of July, but late in the day I was texting my friend Jeni and she said, "What are you doing?  Come on over!"  So we went and had a great time swimming, eating, and watching a backyard firework show.  Fun times!!!!

Sun Splash

Our sister in law's family was having a family reunion at Sun Splash in Roseville, which is only 2 hours away from us.  She invited us to come play there with them.  When we arrived she gave us these cards and wrist bracelets which pretty much told the employees to treat us as royalty (see the castle up there in the top corner, yep, we were royalty for a day.)  The cards let us play the games in the arcade for free UNLIMITED and the wrist bands let us do everything else there at the park FOR FREE---minature golf, any water attraction, laser tag, the car racing....even food at the snack bar!!!!!  I tried to figure out how much the day would have cost us if we would have paid regular admission prices....by my calculation it would have been about $500.00, no joke.  We had a blast.  I think the boys would pick the go carts as their favorite attraction there, but during our time at the water slides I didn't see Bradley for 2 hours once.  He just didn't come over to "check in" with me because he was having so much fun.  (Andrew would do a slide, then come over to me, talk or sit a bit, then off to another slide.  Bradley, off by himself.  He's old enough now and a good enough swimmer that I didn't worry, but I had wished I would have told him to come by and say "hi" once in a while.
All in all, it was the best day of the summer.  We left our house at 9 am and didn't get home till midnight...non stop fun..  We even heard William's final song on the radio, Justin Bieber 3 times, "Call me Maybe" 3 times, and Lemonade Mouth was on the sound system at the park, so a good music day, too!
They had wi fi, so I was able to check my e mail and get William's letter while I was there.
The whole day was perfect. It was fun visiting with Trish, we have a lot in common. The cousins didn't do a ton together, but I'm glad we got to see them, since we don't get to very often and it's important to know your cousins.
Bradley, Andrew, cousin Sam and two of Sam's cousins.
Andrew playing air hockey with Sam.
Joseph and Andrew.  Joseph is 5 months older than Andrew and he's about to go into the 6th grade.  He was REALLLLLLLY mad at the car racing, he was too short to be a driver, but all of his YOUNGER cousins were tall enough to drive.  Really not fair!  His mom let him push the gas, though, but he really wanted to get to do what everyone else was doing.  He didn't stick around the racing track long.  Poor guy!!!!

Swimming Fam Home Eve

Scott had to work at the Pope's house on Monday night, so we came along to swim in their beautiful pool!

Fun Day

Bradley, Andrew, and I spent all day yesterday at SunSplash/Golfland in Roseville.
(Thanks Trish and family!!!!)
This is the only picture I got of all of us
(and the creepers in the background),
while waiting to drive in the go cart race.
I'll post more from some of the other fun we had later!!!!

To william

This is not really blogging, but I'm going to do this because I think Melanee, my dad, and maybe a few of you might get a kick out of this---

Here are a cut and paste of my letters to William today (don't judge)---

Sorry this morning's letter was so brief and kinda may have sounded lecturing....we were on our way to andrew's baseball game and I didn't think we'd be back in time to write you a full letter for the day and I wanted you go get something. And I didn't want you to do anymore banking at that MTC bank, haha!!!

I'm watching the Galaxy vs San Jose game right now. Remember when I used to like Donovan...not anymore.

Martin Havlat is at the game!

Luongo got traded to the Florida Panthers for two guys I never heard of.

Our baseball game was bad today, hardly any one showed up so we had to play 7 against 10, not really fair.

Trish says the fires are still all around still making the air bad. Sorry.

Lenhart just SCORED! 1-0 six minutes into the game!!!! His nick name is now, the Lion King (because of his hair, I guess???? haha).

The galaxy goalie is wearing OUR blue AGAIN!

Beckham wasn't chosen for the Great Britain olympic team.

Someone just ran into the goalie (busch) and he ALREADY has a black eye. ouch. (Cant fake black eyes, and they usually appear worse LATER not instantly.) He stayed in.

My dad and Sharon are going on a cruise next week if they can get a flight to Seattle. They are going to Alaska.

The USWomensNT had a game today there in Utah at Rio Tinto stadium...they beat Canada 1-0...they are going to the olympics, so this was like a warm up.

Big time Rush had their World Tour and did you know that One Direction OPENED for them. They didn't open for One Direction, one Direction opened for them.

Bradley is back from scout camp...I'm going to tell him to write to you all about it..but he did have fun. His lips were so chapped that they were bloody and scabbed. he liked John Dunbar and Kevin Ramsden, they were the leaders. He liked all the 5th ward kids. He shared the tent thingy with Chase Glende.

Beckham just scored on a free kick....ugh! So frustrating cuz first of all it was a flop to get the call, then also the Quakes have had the ball the WHOLE game and have been playing MUCH better than the Galaxy.

boo....now an OWN goal by the Quakes for the Galaxy....dumb!!!! ugh

I think I'll go watch the game. I'm mad now. Haha...dumb game. They better have a great comeback AGAIN.

everything is good here. we are all fine. most everything is fixed about  the stolen bag and purse.

well, i love you and hope you are well

mom

(that was letter #1) (I sent it) ________________________________________________________________________
(this is letter #2)  (a bit later in the evening)

so if you got two letters from me today and haven't read THE OTHER ONE first .... do it....read the other one first......---------

This is part two of that letter. You have to read the other letter before this one.

So...I hope they keep the spacing in, so that you haven't looked down and saw what this letter has to say before you read the other letter first. FIRST, I say!!!!

So, you know how I was writing to you and I was stressing out BIG TIME about the soccer game I was watching???? well, it was 3-1. Most times in soccer, a two goal lead means the rest of the game will be boring, with one team trying too hard and that makes them mess up...and the team with the lead, just passing, stalling, and playing 10 guys back....very hard to make a comeback from a two goal lead.

Recap...Quakes scored first. Lenhart on a rebound off the goalie after a hard shot from someone else. Exciting excitement. Then a Beckham free kick bent over a wall into the upper 90, goalie didn't even move. Sad, sad. Then an OWN GOAL, by the same guy who saved a bunch of goals last week and even earned "Save of the Week" honors even though he isn't a goalie and that award usually goes to a goalie. This week, instead of kicking the ball OUT of play, he blasted it into the GOAL, the goalie didn't have a chance...it was a rocket shot, right into the lower far corner.

Then THAT SAME GUY did a pass back to his goalie, with landon donovan standing back there...and Donovan stole it and scored....3-1 Galaxy.....that's when I felt ill and didn't want to write any more....

well, right before half time the Quakes scored on a corner kick. Woo Hoo....only a 2-3 deficit, not horribly bad. So after half time, the Quakes scored within 2 minutes. On a long run by one of the center backs (Cronin) and a ball coming in from the sideline (not corner)...Lenhart made it look like he was going for the pass (it was coming right to him) but he fake made a play on it, but let it go through him to Cronin who was doing the sprint up the middle and he was not covered, cuz it looked like it was going to Lenhart, Cronin and the goalie got to the ball at the same time, goalie diving forward, cronin sliding....cronin got it, directed it right in...GOAL...3-3. Game goes one...great saves....bad misses...excitement, excitement...injuries, arguments...shots, corner kicks, passes, runs..... about 20 minutes left in the game...another Quake corner kick...and I hope I can describe this well....WONDO ran to the about knee high ball in about the 6 yard box and spun around and back heel/bottom of the cleat kicked the ball into the net....he was covered by TWO guys, there was also the goalie and the two guys on the post that the ball got past!!!! 4-3 Quakes....the rest of the game was SOOOOOOOOOO exciting/nerve racking. Heated, lots of chances, injuries, arguing, fast paced, wow wow wow game.....into extra time 3 or 4 galaxy corner kicks (and they have beckham remember)...Donovan sprinting through traffic, guys flopping, scary scary.....two minutes left to go and the lady commentator on the tv is showing highlights and talking about them...on the Wondo goal she says, "game winning goal"....oooppsssss...you know how sport people are superstitious and very aware of jinx and dont say "perfect game" or "shut out"....on air.....well, right when she said that I got so scared....thought they were going to lose! (because of it!!!).....but with one minute left...on one of the corner kicks....two guys head each other...a Quake goes down (Cronin) in agony. He rolls there for a while....Beckham was ready to take a throw in, but the clock was ticking....he was angry, couldn't speed anyone up, couldn't get anyones attention...so he DROP KICKED the ball he was holding and sent it to where the ref and the injured guy were at and the ball hit the ref in the back then landed on the guy on the ground. CHAOS ensues. Yellow card, shoving, yelling, time ticking away...finally take the throw in...whistle blows, game over...QUAKES WIN....Beckham still barking, still in peoples faces, a couple big Quake guys want to take him on, teammates hold them back, Beckham has a guy holding him back the entire time...even the quakes mascot "Q" got in the midst of the whole intense chaos. Wondo takes off his shirt, wanting to exchange with Donovan...it looked like either he couldn't find him or Dono said no...but I read later on Twitter they did exchange...haha (I do believe everything I read on Twitter).

Quakes make another COMEBACK...wow! and it was a good game!!!!!!!!

I know from two weeks ago, the Rapids hate the Quakes and think they should have won. I know from last week, Real Salt lake hates the quakes and think they should have won...I KNOW the GALAXy hate the quakes ...with a passion. The second half of the season is going to be FOUGHT HARD.

Real Salt lake Lost today...Quakes are in 1st place by 4 points. Galaxy are in 6th and are angry!

did I SAY that the Galaxy were angry?!??!!!! yeah, they are!!!!
