Suits for Young Men

Here's some advice for all of you with sons....do NOT buy them a suit when they are 16 and expect it to be one of their missions suits....they will grow...and it will be too small.....

sports fan

Yes, I do consider myself a sports fan.....you might even say that is an understatement, but I do not agree with the text I got today from a friend who is a HUGE Utah Jazz fan.  Here is what he texted to me after I told him that he was having dinner with a family that loved the Sharks even more than I do- "Nobody likes sports as much as you, I thought I like sports until I met you :)".

Wait!  WAIT!!!  Levi, (that's my friend's name), you watch EVERY SINGLE Jazz game.  You know all the stats.  You even watch Clippers games when you are bored!  You PLAY basketball.  You work out!!!  You call ME a bigger sports fan than YOU???!!!???!!!  Oh, you know, maybe you are right!

NHL All Star Festivities

We don't get the "Vs." channel on our tv, so we had to watch the NHL All Star Skills Competitons on our computer. I enjoyed seeing the guys out on the ice having fun and smiling. It was especially fun seeing two goalies speed skate racing around the rink, especially when one of them fell big time. I also liked that the 2 Sharks players performed pretty well in their challenges. I liked watching Ovechkin break his stick (twice, and he only brought 3) (he had to borrow one from a Penguin, his team's arch enemy), he also tripped once, missed his first two shots in the breakaway challenge, he got the lowest score on the hardest shot competition, and one of his shots did not even register. I did miss Sidney Crosby, though. And I think Patrick Marleau would have won the speed competition and the part of the relay race where they had to dribble around Gatorade bottles. I also followed the "draft" yesterday on Twitter and the NHL web site and that was entertaining. The twins were selected to different teams, Ovechkin didn't get picked until 3rd, the one Staal brother captain selected his brother, and he also selected all of his teammates. The Blackhawk guys went to different teams and one of them was really mad the entire time he had to wait until he got picked. The guy who got picked last won a brand new automobile.....so I feel sorry for the guy who got picked second to last. Too bad the actual game is also on the Versus channel, so we wont get to see that either. (I hope I can find it on my computer!)

***CANNOT figure out why there are links in this post....so don't click on them...I didn't put them there and I am finding it impossible to remove them!  If anyone knows why they are happening, let me know!

more ducks

Today Bradley got to go hunting....he was happy...AND he got some ducks, so he that made him even more happy, if that's even possible...just look at that face (and Michelle, just look at the top picture...I edited that one for you!)

Snowing in Virginia

Here's the view from Melanee's back porch.

My Husband

(*got these yesterday)
I don't know, but I think Scott is getting jealous of me blogging about the Sharks and soccer and basketball and Sidney Crosby...so I thought I'd take this time and space to blog about him.  I know he reads this blog, but never comments, so I am sure he will be surprised and happy to see that I am telling the world that I love him more than the Sharks, the Kings, the USMNT, the Galaxy, the Chivas, Jonny Bornstein, Jonathan Spector (hey Olivia, did you see him in Sports Illustrated today???), the Earthquakes, and Sidney Crosby.
Scott is a wonderful husband and a loving, caring father.  He works hard every day (except Sundays).  He wants his family to have a good life.  He lives the gospel and teaches it to his children.  He cares for the elderly, homeless, Lesters, job less, and everyone he meets.  He would give the jacket off his back to you if you needed one on a cold mountain.  He is wise.  He is honest.  He can fix everything.  He is good to have around and usually has warm feet.  He probably couldn't score a goal in soccer, skate, or run, but I still like him more than the athletes I mention from time to time (OK, always) here on my blog.  Those guys are just like fictional characters, Scott is the real thing!!!!!

Sharks lose in shootout

The Sharks lost last night and I was even wearing my Canadiens shirt, so does this mean it's no longer "lucky"?  My favorite player even missed his penalty shot.  I so wanted him to be a hero!!!

People pick their favorite sport teams for a variety of reasons....close proximity to their homes, the team they followed when they were a child, know someone on the team (everyone in Chico right now claims to be Green Bay Packers fan and EVERYONE seems to have a claim on how they personally KNOW Aaron Rodgers), they may like the teams colors or mascot (women do this, like OH, that cute cartoon penguin is SOOO cute, or the Chargers baby blue uniforms are so pretty, UGH), women also follow a team if they think a guy on it is cute (Cristiano Renaldo, haha!), there are so many reasons people may like a certain team.....I'm not going to attempt to list them ALL....but I will say that I usually don't choose for those obvious reasons....For example, I started liking the Chivas because they had Jonny Bornstein (If you would have asked me the season before last I would have told you that I HATED the Chivas because they are the rivals of the Galaxy and you cant like rivals!?!??), but Jonny Bornstein is one of the most, or IS THE MOST, hated US Mens national team player by fans, that fact actually makes me like him.  I guess you could say I feel sorry for him, but that is not really it.  I have read all about the guy and he is A NICE FELLOW, a good person.

That gets me to what I wanted to write mostly about here....my LOVE for the San Jose Sharks.  When we first started following them it was because of the players.  The Sharks seem like likable, funny, happy people.  Yeah, Rob Blake DID HURT a Colorado player last year and I DID NOT like that.  Yeah, they have a few guys who fight, but most of them are people if you moved next door to, you'd probably become friends. In watching the 24/7 special about the Penguins and Caps, I was AMAZED at the guys foul language.  My dad has been up close at some live hockey games and he said that is how they talk!  EW!!!  Maybe, hopefully, they leave that language at the arena when they go home.  I can't picture Patty Marleau out in his front yard talking like that to his mailman or his puppy!  I am also not naive to think that the Sharks don't swear.  I just watch the games and see kind souls in most of these guys.  I used to joke that Patrick Marleau says "excuse me" or "sorry" after he gently slams someone into the boards, but I was watching Marc-Eduoard Vlasic last night, and I read lips, and I seriously think I saw him say, "hey let's not fight, right now, ok buddy" (in a french accent).  And Logan Couture, does he ever NOT smile???  If you had THAT BIG of teeth, would you smile THAT MUCH?  He is a happy person.  I can tell.  And I am friends on Twitter with him, I can attest to the fact that he is nice.  And Devin Setaguchi is also one of my Twitter friends, he's a great guy.  So, I like the Sharks because of their personalities more than their win-loss record.  I will admit, though, that it is A LOT more fun to see them win.  All my Internet friends are blaming last night's loss on Nicklas Wallin, he's never been one of my favorites, but I wouldn't call for his head on a platter...or like they are doing- asking for him to be waived-  because he is a Shark, one of my guys.  Just watch, if he scores a game winner tomorrow, the fair weather fans will love him.

Remember when I was all obsessed with the Sacramento Kings?  Right now I don't even watch their games.  They don't have even ONE likable guy on the team.  I watched 2 years ago when the team's record was just as bad as this years, but those guys, 2 years ago, were my team, this team now, they are annoying punks.  If I was to say I was a Kings fan, that would make me an annoying punk fan, and that I can't be!

So, tell me, how do you pick a favorite team?

Today

I am trying to blog everyday for my beloved followers to have something to read when they are bored....and I know you like photos to go along with my posts, but I didn't bring my camera to Enloe hospital today because I didn't think any of the patients or staff would appreciate it!  There is also probably some policy against it, if there is not, there should be because those patients...um....they don't really look their best lying in those uncomfortable hospital beds waiting for uncomfortable procedures.  If you were wondering what I was doing at the hospital today...I will tell you what I did while there---I sat in the hall and read a book.  I also watched as people walked by.  I saw 2 people I knew.  I was only there in the hall for about a half hour.  The hospital is like a small city.  People busily going about their business.  There's food, a store, a pharmacy, rooms, and chaotic activity.   My dad was the one having tests and procedures and whatever they do in those operating rooms done, not me.   I was just the designated driver.  I think I could make a good chauffeur, but I don't think I'd ever want to work in the medical field.  It looks like hard, kinda gross, work.  I thought some of the colorful scrubs would be cool to shop for and pick out, but besides that, nah, yuck...they body is kind of a disgusting thing....if you really think about all its functions.  (Especially when they are not working properly.)  After we spent the morning at the hospital we went OUT TO LUNCH.   I had just eaten a huge, delicious doughnut at the hospital cafeteria, but going out to eat is the best way to eat...you know being served, not having to cook or clean.  And my dad was hungry after having to fast for hours on end.  Then we went to his nice, clean, peaceful house.  He seemed great, so I had William come pick me up after school.  I think the anesthesia drugs they used this time were great because he didn't act drugged at all afterward...as opposed to last time, when he was loopy for hours, lol.
Now, I am wearing my Canadiens shirt and watching an exciting Sharks game....it's been a good day.  I even got a day off of work...something I don't think I've ever taken, seriously.

I really love my dad.  Dad, if you are reading this....I love you!

HAHA, I'm getting pics daily now

Melanee must not mind being on my blog...lol...she sent me another picture today!  So here it is, her hair is WAY pretty!  And don't you LOVE her apartment's green carpet???  I like the fire extinguisher wall decor.(Bet she sent me this to replace the one I made her send last night, haha, but it's still on here!)

Executive Council Dinner

I can't really tell you who all these people are, but I do know that they are members of the SVU Executive Council, meaning the students who do a lot of free work and service for the school and enjoy every second of it.  Here's a link to their names and titles on the school web site-  http://svu.edu/student-life/student-association/executive-council
(Hey, Mel, I know you got that shirt because it was too big for Bradley, but I think he wants it back now!)
Maybe Melanee will comment and tell us more about what is happening here in these pictures, but if not, I still wanted to share them for my dad to see what Melanee's up to there at school way far away in Virginia!
They had a dinner last night.  I told Melanee I feel sorry for the ONE guy in the group, but she reassured me that he loves it, so I wont worry about him being so outnumbered anymore.

Another Picture

I have probably put up too many pictures already of William and his date and his friends.....but this was one of my favorites, but the red eye effect was REALLY bad on it, I mean one of William's eyes was white, the other red...looked awful, but I have a friend with Photoshop and photoshop skills, so here is another picture!  They had fun.  I'm glad!!!

funny story

Ok, this really is a funny story, but the when I told it to Jeni and Tim today, neither laughed...at all...so maybe it is not that funny.  (You can let me know in my "comments" section)

Last night William went to the Snow Ball.  The dance was over at 12:00, but I wasn't sure what time William was coming home, I forgot to ask (or TELL) him.  Scott and I were both waiting up for him.  I had a bad headache.  I stayed up, though.  William came home at around 12:20.  Scott was in the shower.  William keeps his toothbrush and special whitening toothpaste that he doesn't want to let anyone else use, in his dresser, so with Scott in the shower, he just brushed his teeth at the kitchen sink.  He talked a little about the dance, but was tired and went straight to bed.  After Scott got out of the shower, I finished watching the show I was watching, then I went to bed, Scott was still up, he had on the tv and the computer.  That was not unusual, he usually stays up later than me, so I didn't think anything of it.  I thought he was watching an exciting episode of Stargate or playing some game on the computer.  I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow...as I usually do.  My hearing loss helps me to sleep deep.  At 2:00 in the morning Scott comes in the bedroom and wakes me up, out of my deep sleep.  He sounds very concerned and informs me that he has been calling and texting William and William does not answer.  He is very worried and wants me to help him decide what to do.  He also tells me that he is very tired and that he just fell asleep at the keyboard and hit his face on it when he dozed off.  I wake up in a fog, and try to figure out what he is saying, I was very confused for a second.....but then I realized where I am, who I am, and what is going on....I tell Scott that William is in BED!  Scott didn't know that.  William came home when he was in the shower.  The bedroom door was closed to keep the warm air in the front room.  Scott did see the white car out front, but said that confused him a lot.  He never looked in the bed room.  And since it was dark in the front room, he did not notice William's shirt and tie sitting on the chair.  He thought he was being a good dad waiting up for William.  I went to bed, knowing that William had already arrived home safe.  William was sound asleep and rarely has his ringer on, so he never heard the calls.  Scott didn't get much real sleep last night.

A haircut/the comparison

today

hair 6 months ago

(last month)
(notice the creeper hand)

Melanee got six inches of her hair cut off.  She looks BEAUTIFUL!!!!  She was thinking that she wanted healthier hair, but I told her that there is no such thing as "healthy" hair because all hair is dead cells, but William told me that only hair that falls off is "dead" so maybe I'm wrong.  She has been growing her hair out for a while and I am pretty sure that the length it was before her haircut was the longest she has ever had it her whole life....but now it is short again, but very healthy.  Like Candace said about her haircut, it looks darker!  The "dead" ends and split ends have all been removed....SIX whole inches.  I bet she will save money on shampoo and conditioner and time spent styling her hair!  Maybe I should go get a haircut...I want to save time and money!!!!

1/22/11

Yeah, it IS lucky!

I wore my lucky shirt again tonight.....hoping for a Sharks win....hoping they'd get 4 wins in a row....and THEY DID!!!!  I do have to say, though, that the games are MUCH MORE fun to watch with William, but Karsten Chelson was over and he had never seen a hockey game before, so it was fun watching with him and telling him what was going on---he especially could NOT believe that they could just hit each other into the walls and even punch each other.  I think hockey would be a good sport for the Chelsons, they don't whine when they get hurt and they are rough!
GO SHARKS!!!!!

For Scott

(the only time he smiles for photos!)

Duck Season, almost over

Snow Ball 2011

William is a good dancer...he likes to dance...he's very sociable...he has lots of good friends....and really wanted to go to the P.V. winter semi formal dance "The Snow Ball"....he even thought about going alone, but this week at school one of his friends, Abby, asked him who he was going to the "Snow Ball" with, when he said, "No one."  She said, "Well, you are going with me."  He was very happy to have a date.  And the Snow Ball is one of the best dances of the year because it is held at the school in the gym, so tickets are A LOT cheaper than when they rent a place like the Elks Lodge, the skating rink, or the fair grounds.  And even luckier, the friend of his date, who they were double dating with, had everyone come over to her house for dinner and pictures.....so he didn't have to pay for a restaurant or professional photos.  AND.....semi formal means no flowers, so, yeah, saved there, too!!!  He did have to miss the Sharks game, though, but look, he has his lucky Canadiens shirt under his dress up clothes!!!

Here he is before he left.
Besides dinner, Nicole's parents also had out a whole spread of appetizers.

Both couples.  It was a "black and white" dance, so that made clothes selection much easier for matching the girls dresses, oh yeah.

Youth Temple Trip

Last Saturday, the youth from our ward went to the temple...William didn't want to take my camera or use his phone camera so when he got home, he didn't have any pictures for me...haha...but I am Facebook friends with the Young Women's president...SOOOOOO here is our ward youth at the Sacramento Temple, last week, don't they look happy to be there...oh, I think they were, I bet they just weren't thrilled about getting their picture taken...and they were probably hungry.  They got to stop at In N Out on the way home (they love that!!!!)  It's almost a tradition now.

Hmong Party/Activity

There are Hmong members in our ward, so we have a set of Hmong missionaries to translate for them and to also find and teach new people...well, they have a lot of investigators right now, many whom are kids....one of the little Hmong kids is about to get baptized, so today the Missionaries threw a party for the little boy and invited a lot of kids to come play and eat.  First they played dodge ball.

They also played capture the flag, then later blindfolded them for a rope/obstacle course activity.

We then ate turkey, rice, salad, and cookie bars for lunch.  Bradley loved the long sticky plain white rice...(I usually make dry short grained rice and then make it into something like friend rice or put some kind of sauce on it)......Andrew announced that he didn't like the "No Taste" rice.....everyone heard him, oops!  (Luckily a lot of them who heard dont speak english.)  I think all the kids had fun!

Church Basketball

I know it has been a long time since I have blogged about William's basketball team, but it has been a long time since they have played.  Last week they had a temple trip...the week before that was some other ward's trip...the week before that was a men's tournament....so it has been almost a month.  If you remember they won their first two games.  The first one was REALLY close.  Well, William's team played that same team again today and it was really close again....but this time they lost.  William's team DID have a lot of missed shots and turnovers, but the real difference in the game was the score board runner (and the refs)....I know it is not politically correct to call people "retarded" or "retards" because the real retarded people may get offended, but I think I can write here that the scoreboard operator is RETARDED because in real life, she REALLY is.  I don't know why they let her run anything, she puts scores on the wrong side of the board, misses baskets when she is talking, puts up 2 points for some 3 pointers, two points for some free throws, forgets to stop the clock when there is a time out, and all in all, the score on the scoreboard can not be trusted because of her MANY MANY mistakes and omissions.  The parents were trying to tell the refs, but all they had for a comeback was that they don't keep score...and that the book matched the final score....the kid running the book was an injured player from the other team, so I don't know how accurate or objective he could be either.  I still think that the other team won because I saw baskets that they made put into our score column, but I will next time watch the scoreboard better, because I KNOW it was not right today!

CYSL Coaches' Meeting

Not much happened today, so I thought I'd blog about the beginning of the season coaches meeting.  I am on the soccer board of directors, so I have to be there to help.  At 1:30 I went and helped unload a couple of pallets of candy bars for the fund raiser and this evening I was mostly in charge of handing out the uniforms.  I thought they looked pretty cool all lined up on the floor before any of the coaches arrived.

1/20/11

Jordan White

I blogged about it a little bit in the last post...but you HAVE GOT to see the smile on this guy's face after the game.....HAPPIEST day of his life, I'm sure.  He will NEVER forget this day, I'm POSITIVE.  And LOOK at the picture and see how happy the Sharks guys are for him....they aren't patting the head of the Player of the Game, the goalie who ACTUALLY PLAYED, they are all surrounding the 22 year old college guy....sooooo cute!  (If you completely have NO idea what I am talking about....go read the previous post!!!)

SHARKS win!

The Sharks are on a 3 game winning streak.  I DO have a lucky shirt...it's not a Sharks shirt, it's a Montreal Canadiens shirt....AND I AM NEVER TAKING IT OFF!!!!!!!
The game was so exciting....The Sharks beat the best team in the NHL tonight in a close game...it was a REAL nail biter....it even went into OVERTIME...it even went into A SHOOT OUT.
Logan Couture got the GAME WINNER.  JoPavs got the shootout goal.  And the goalie STOOD TALL and blocked A LOT of shots!  WOW!!!!
(the Sharks back up goalie got hurt sometime today, so they had to bring in a local college student to fill in as back up.  I LOVE that kid!!!  Sooooo sweet.  He was so excited to be there.  Can you imagine being in class this morning, in a NHL game this evening?????  And probably has homework to do before classes tomorrow!!!!  At the end of the game, I think he was the most excited of the WHOLE bunch!!!  I have no doubt he will cherish that jersey FOREVER and never take off his Sharks baseball cap.)
And I don't even care what our neighbors thought as we went CrAZy when they WON!!!!  (But my throat does kinda hurt right now!!!)  And, dad, we tried to call you to tell you that they won (because we know you turn off the tv for shoot outs, but your PHONE WAS BUSY!!!!, you must have been calling David (or him, you)!!!!!)

Cub Scouts

Yesterday for cub scouts we went to Orchard Supply Hardware.  I made up a kind of a scavenger hunt and we split into teams to find all the items on our list.  The boys seemed to enjoy it.
Right next to OSH is a Great Harvest Bakery, so their samples is what we had for our "snack".
Then we went back to the church and had time for a game of cherades and also did one Mad Lib.....I think the kids now know what verbs, adjectives, nouns, adverbs, and pronouns are...or MAYBE NOT!  haha!!!

Melanee at school

It snowed the other day in Virginia....so I told Melanee to take a picture, but when she woke up the next morning, the snow had melted.  So, I asked her for another picture....any picture and she sent me this just now...It looks like it is her in front of the intramural board....Melanee is the VP of Athletics at the school, one of her jobs as that is to run and oversee the intramural program.  Looks like she is doing a good job!

Tuesday

I am going to try to blog every day now, but if I do, it may be boring.  I didn't have my camera with me today, so here's a picture of the beautiful sunset...taken by my 1 megapixel cell phone camera through my car's dirty windshield.  The moon through the colorful clouds was really cool.

Hearing loss is no fun.  Here's an example, I should keep a notebook of these occurrences cuz they can be very hilarious.....I was looking for my shoes this morning, Scott asks me if I need help finding my shoes...I say "yes" and he hands me my keys....oh, I guess he asked me if I needed help finding my KEYS!  I can't hear.

I went to Target today to buy envelopes, BAD idea...Target has TOO MUCH cool stuff at too good prices....I NEED TO STAY AWAY!  And if you want some shopping suggestions....Target Brand food is NOT VERY good.  No taste macaroni and cheese, wrong tasting generic oreos....don't waste your money trying to save money....buy the real stuff.  WAY BETTER!

Andrew came home from school and took a nap.  Odd, but he must be growing or need more sleep, I didn't mind the quiet house, but how many 9 year olds take naps???  I told the kids this morning that they had to go to bed tonight at 8....there is NO way Andrew will be tired at 8, he slept from 3 to 6.

The Sharks made some trades and deals today and got two new players.  Look at this one---  an "enforcer" haha, do you know what that means????? Basically a guy who's roll is to MURDER and KILL the opponents, which is legal in hockey, it's all a part of the game.  Crazy, I know.  But LEGAL.

I love the smell of Irish Spring soap.  They now have a men's deodorant "irish spring" flavored (scented, not flavored, but you knew what I meant).  Why did it take "them" (deodorant makers) so long to come up with that idea?  And speaking of deodorants....which kind is the best?  "Sure" does NOT work, not at all...for sweat or smell.  Secret is ok, but I think it stains, or allows ME to somehow stain white undershirts!  Suave, no!  Degree, ok, don't LOVE.  The prices of deodorants range from a buck to ten bucks....is a higher price WORTH IT?  How do you choose, by smell, brand, price???

December Graduation

Melanee has some good news for EVERYONE!!!!!
She will be FINISHED with school in December!!!
THIS YEAR!
2011!!!!!
(should I put EVEN MORE exclamation points??!!!!!!!!)
Congratulations Melanee, you will be all done with college when you are just 21 years old (I mean YOUNG), that's quite an accomplishment.  I know it has been HARD and this year wont be ANY easier, but all your studying and excelling will be way worth it the rest of your life!
And your dad and I (and your future husband) are especially happy that you will finish a semester EARLY, thus saving THOUSANDS of dollars!!!!
We love you and are SO proud of you.
This is GREAT news!

Coaching Soccer

My dad is going to think I am crazy for doing this....but AGAIN the soccer league (which I am on the board) is in need of soccer coaches in both the age groups in which my sons play.  I have agreed to AGAIN coach BOTH teams.  I have enough experience that I know what I am getting myself into, so why do I keep agreeing to coach???  Just kidding, it's not that bad.  And the biggest benefit is that I can determine when and where soccer practice will be held.  I can schedule it into MY schedule and I can have it take place NEAR my house, both very convenient.  If I didn't coach I know I would end up with practices overlapping with each other or scouts or track meets....and they would SURELY be held on the far edges of town thus wasting me gas money and time in the car.

Bradley's team will be called the Fireball.  NO, I did not get to name the team.  Fireball is kinda lame for a soccer team name....Fire would have been better, huh?  And we will be forest green color.  That's pretty cool, except Bradley and Kolby wanted to be maroon or red.  Andrew's team is going to be called.....get this.....are you ready.....the SHARKS, no joke!  Isn't that cool?  I can wear my Sharks shirt!  (Or maybe I should wear my Canadiens shirt.)  And our color will be black.  Andrew was MAD at that since that was his team color last year, but if you really think about it----black is the most awesomest color of ALL the soccer team colors for boys in our league!  Seriously.

Soccer will start in about 2 weeks, I hope the cold, WIND, and rain go AWAY before that.  (Michelle, doesn't it seem like JUST YESTERDAY out there on the sideline wearing shorts and worrying about the boys getting OVERHEATED in the HEAT?????)

Lucky Shirt

The Sharks had a game today.  I talked to my dad (who is also a Sharks fan) earlier in the day...he reminded me that I should wear my "lucky shirt" again...meaning my Canadiens shirt, which I wore on Saturday when they won.  I wore it and guess what???  They won AGAIN....I better wash it again for Thursday...they are playing the Canucks (best team in hockey right now).  AND, during the game my favorite player scored the first goal!  Yay PATTY.  (and Melanee if you ever get random texts that say only "PATTY"...that means that Patrick Marleau has scored a goal....hopefully you will be getting a lot of them between now and the crowning of the Stanley Cup!)

Welcome Back Dance

Remember how I looked at the SVU blog and saw that picture of Melanee skating?  When I saw a new blog post with pictures of the first dance of the new year, I didn't expect to see Melanee in any of the pictures, but there she was----haha---not sure what she and her friends were doing---haha, but looks like they were having fun!

Andrew's first duck

I normally wouldn't have added this post, except it was ANDREW'S very first time shooting an actual bird, so I thought that if I ever make this into a book...this event should be a part of it.

Walking Tacos

I have been a cub scout leader long enough that I can bring back some of my old favorite activities since these new boys weren't scouts when we first did them----this was a cooking activity and we made "walking tacos".  It's very simple to do, yummy, and the boys get to practice lots of kitchen skills.  I had them do almost everything...they browned the ground beef/turkey, cut the tomatoes, lettuce, and olives, and they grated the cheese.

What makes them "walking" is that you put all the ingredients you want into an individual sized chip bag (with the chips)....I had corn chips, they both chose doritos....if you want you can add lots of lettuce and salad dressing and call it a taco salad....but for cubs, "walking tacos" sound cooler!  The scouts even washed the dishes at the end.

75% 0ff= SCORE!

One of my "Twitter" friends wrote about the awesome hockey t shirt she found at her local Target store.  Another Twitter friend posted a picture of her in one of her Christmas presents, which was a Canadians T-Shirt.  I shop at Target.  I even sometimes find bargains at Target....but I honestly did NOT think that MY Target carried any kind of hockey shirts, so I looked on Target.com, but couldn't find anything.  We needed milk, and I had promised Andrew a trip to the store for Legos over a week ago, so we went to Target today.  I scoped out the whole men's department and didn't find any hockey t shirts on the regular shelves, but then I noticed the clearance racks....it took some searching, but I did manage to find a Detroit Red Wings, a Montreal Canadian, and a Chicago Blackhawks shirt in William's size.....I snagged them ALL....they were 75% off.  I kept looking and found a Blackhawks shirt in Bradleys size and also one in my size.....SCORE, grabbed them, too!!!  I also bought William a sweater to go in his ugly sweater collection, but when he saw it, he didn't like it, so we took it back.  When we were there together the second time we went back to the Men's section so William could look at the other Ugly Sweaters....and GUESS WHAT I FOUND.....a Canadian's t shirt FOR ME.  So here we are in our matching shirts....had to get a pic since I'm sure William will make sure that this odd occurance will NEVER happen again (us wearing matching clothes!)-
oh, yeah, and we were wearing these while we watched the Sharks game and they WON!  (after losing the previous 6 games)....so maybe we need to wear them instead of our Sharks shirts.  William's favorite player if from Montreal.....haha....so it's sort of like he is rooting for one of the Sharks when he wears it, right???  and I just like the Canadiens uniforms.

Chuck E....changed to "Fun Zone"

We had a bunch of leftover tokens from last time we went to Chuck E. Cheeses, so we took the little guys there last night for something fun to do.  When we got there we noticed that it was no longer Chuck E. Cheese, but it was opened and everything was pretty much exactly the same, except for all the Chuck E Cheese signs or pictures of the Rat were gone.  They accepted our tokens, so we went in and the boys had fun.

I don't recommend the place, though.....one of the other things that hasn't changed there is that it is sure to give all parents a HEADACHE from all the noise and bright lights!
