Fishing Trip

Happy boys. "That was SO" fun is what Bradley said before he announced, "I have poison oak!!!!!!!!" He is in the bath now.

Bradley and Scott went fishing today. Here is his fish frying for dinner.

5 Stake Dance

I had to post the first picture because I wanted to show you William's ORANGE shoes and how they match his tie.
And I put the second picture because I actually think it looks better, but can't you tell by the look on his face how well he likes me to take his picture all the time!
Here is one of very few pictures of Scott and I. Bradley took it. We were in Nevada, you can probably tell by the brown scenery in the background. When we were driving home, we noticed that right as you pass the California state line, there are trees. NO trees in Nevada, tons of trees as soon as you enter California. Interesting!
Anyway, if you are wondering why Scott is dressed the way he is....I'll tell you---the morning we got up and ready to take Melanee to the airport, Scott came out of the room all ready to go. He was wearing old, very torn and holey (from battery acid) blue jeans and a white, but very stained from work and too small t-shirt. I asked him if that was what he was going to wear, and he said, "yes, what's wrong with it?" I explained all the faults in his fashion choices. He went back in the room and came out like this and asked if I approved of his new ensamble. lol.
There's actually a story behind what I am wearing, too. While driving to Reno, we traveled mountainy roads. A little ways into the trip we stopped to get gas. Everyone got a treat. Andrew picked a blue slurpee. I started out in the front seat, but after a stop at a bathroom, Melanee and I switched so that she could control the radio. BAD MISTAKE. At one point, Andrew started crying, for no reason. I looked at him and he looked a little ill. I grabbed a beach towel that was luckily left in the Suburban from a swimming trip earlier in the week. I held it to his mouth, thinking that that was a smart thing to do. Didn't want the barf all over the place......BUT, by putting the towel up to his mouth the projectile barf came shooting out, hit the towel that was inches from his mouth and sprayed ALL OVER ME. I was COVERED in blue slurpee car sickness. It was all over my face, hair, shirt, shorts, the seat, the ceiling, the back of the seat....but very little was on Andrew. I didn't have a change of clothes, but Melanee had her suitcase. I am MUCH larger than her, so her size small t shirt wasn't too comfortable. At the first clothes store we saw, we stopped and I bought this out fit.

We have the Playstation game SingStar. I am NOT a singer. I don't hear very well, so singing is hard, no....it's IMPOSSIBLE. But, on SingStar, there are some songs I can sing and earn the rating "SingStar" (that proves that the scoring system has some flaws). Anyway, I really enjoy plaing the game (when no one is around). I've heard that it is a really fun party game. So last night we invited a bunch of friends over here for a SingStar Party. The first few people who came knew a lot of the songs they had on the game, but the rest knew very few. (It is MUCH easier to sing along with the songs that you know.) Everyone particpated a little, but I don't know if everyone went home saying, "wow, that was FUN". I hope they did, but I don't know how soon I will be throwing another "party".

White water rafting.....NOT

I don't think I wrote about this yet, but it happened a couple weeks ago. We went to Lake Tahoe a few years ago. It was THE GREATEST vacation EVER. We had so much fun, and the kids still talk about it. We stayed in my brother's time share. It was his and Robin's turn to get the 1 bedroom timeshare, but they weren't able to go. They offered it to us, and we were VERY HAPPY to take it. We drove up there, and when we tried to check in, the unit we were supposed to stay in had been given to someone else. They gave us a different "unit", it was a SUITE!!! Bigger than our whole HOUSE!!! It was BEAUTIFUL. There was a full kitchen, washer and dryer, rooms, balcony, fully furnished, 2 bathrooms, etc..... It was a resort with lots of activities offered, and in the 3 days we were there we DID THEM ALL. The kids rock climbed, swam in all the pools, played in all the play grounds, played wallyball, raquet ball, took tennis lessons with a tennis pro, watcher the movies, took the bus ride up the hill just for fun, we went to kariokee (however you spell it), and MORE. We had so much fun. We have never lived in such luxury. So this year we wanted to take a "vacation", one last one with Melanee before she left. The overwhelming majority (everyone) wanted to go to Tahoe. We also wanted to go "white water" rafting. But you have to remember that we have a 6 year old in our family, so the only rafting trip I could find, was not exactly the "high adventure" the big kids were looking for. We didn't stay in a time share, condo, cabin, hotel, motel, or anything like that....we found a campground. It was only $25. When we got there Friday night, we were VERY pleasantly surprised to find that it was practically RIGHT on the lake. Well, there was some private property between us and the lake, but we were is CLOSE walking distance to the campgrounds little beach and long dock. We were also less than a block away from a McDonald, Subway, Safeway, and Longs! It was IDEAL. (And the price was right.)
Back to the story about the white water rafting-----While we were driving from HWY 80 to Tahoe City, where we camped, we drove along the Truckee River. The kids kept asking if that was the river we were going rafting on. I kept telling them, "Yes" only to get comments like, "that water isn't even higher than my knees", and "where's the white water?" LOL. Well, when we went to check in on Saturday, they said we needed life jackets. We had to take them, but it was up to us what to do with them. William joked, "If I fall in, I'll just stand up." We all put them on and boarded the raft. For the first couple hundred yards of river all of the rafters had their life preservers on, but as soon as they rounded the first bend----off came the jackets. (I'm going to try to insert a story here that Scott told in his testimony at church)----our rafting trip can be seen like life. With Melanee going away to college, we can hope that we taught her all she needs to know. We hope we have given her a "life jacket", that she will wear to keep her "safe". (I'm sure I am wording this story SO different than Scott!) Anyway, like the rafting trip.....she may wear her "life jacket" (things we taught her), or take it off as soon as she rounds the bend out of our sight. We hope she will keep on her life jacket! The river is also like life, the water level looks shallow and we think we can just stand up easily if we fall out (life seems easy and we think we know everything) but there are places where there are big holes, where if we fell in we might need the help of a life jacket. (We might need to remember the things we've been taught). Sometimes there is white water on the river, where it has a swift current. Sometimes in life times are not as relaxing or predictible. Scott said this all better, and it was a few weeks ago, so I should have wrote it down sooner.......but for a conclusion-----I just hope this was a trip that the kids will remember as a fun and happy time.

What a mess

Ok, Ann, you will get a kick out of this one. One day I was being lazy and sitting on the couch. I heard Andrew saying, "mom, come here". But there was no panic in his voice, nothing alarming, so I just thought he wanted to show me something outside. I've been outside, there is nothing out there that interests me that much, so I just yelled bvack to him, just a minute. He continued to call me, but I didn't get up and rush out there because of the no panic in his voice and I figured if he was hurt Isaiah would have come and got me and if Isaiah was hurt, Andrew would have come and got me, so I put off going outside for a while. I also kept calling to him to just come inside and talk to me, but he never did........when I finally went out there this is what I found....lol.....I said, "Just a sec., let me go get my camera."

my first ever stainless steel "appliance"

A sad thing happened yesterday, no, it wasn't Melanee leaving for college....it was Melanee leaving for college taking our (I mean HER) laptop computer with her!!!

Lucky me, though, because my birthday is coming up soon.....so I got an early birthday present today!!!! Thanks FAMILY.

1st day of school

OK, this is not Melanee's real first day of school picture, but every year we take a first day of school picture in front of the palm tree, so I made Melanee do it before we left......I'll post the boys 1st day of school pictures tomorrow.

We stopped at the "green lake" rest stop on the way home from dropping Melanee off. It's the rest stop we ALWAYS stop at, so even though we didn't really need to go the bathroom, we still stopped. The kids had fun running around, finding rocks, climbing rocks, and exploring.

Cabelas

We stopped at Cabelas near Reno on the way home. The "boys" loved it. There was an aquarium, stuffed games displayed, shooting games to play, and tons of things to look at. We stayed for over an hour!

light saber battle

we met KEVIN MARTIN!!!!! no joke

We met KEVIN MARTIN at a mall is Sacramento. He is our favorite player on the Kings.
We were in Sacramento for a soccer tournament. Ashley, one of Melanee's teammates, who also loves the Kings, was with us.
The tournament was in Folsom, but the team had 2 games on Friday, so their game on Saturday wasn't until 5:00 in the evening. We had to be out of the motel by 11:00, so we had a big portion of the day to kill. Some of the girls wanted to go to the mall, but their parents thought they should take it easy and not do too much walking around. Most of the team went to the movie theatre. There was also a whimpy mall close to Folsom and an outlet mall near the fiels also, but Melanee and Ahsley wanted to see the BIG, FANCY mall (I think it was called the Galleria, not sure). We had my dad's GPS, so we looked it up and it wasn't too far away. Without the GPS, I wouldn't have ever tried to find it, but with the GPS I knew we wouldn't get lost and I knew we would make it back to the game on time. On the way through Folsom we saw a sign for a Zoo. Ashley had never been to a zoo and Melanee was excited to go check it out, too, so we followed the signs and got to the zoo. The zoo was so much fun. I think we enjoyed it even more than the 4 year olds that were there.
Then we continued on to the mall. We ate lunch, looked around a bit, then decided to split up- I went one way and the girls another. A while later we found each other and Melanee had some shoes that she wanted to show me in Macys. We don't have a Macys here in Chico, so it was a big deal to go there, but the prices are HIGH. The shoes were like $70 bucks! We didn't buy them, but stood there looking at them for a while whensuddenly Melanee went a little pale and had a look of shock on her face. She said, "There's Kevin Martin". Ashley and I didn't believe her.
Up until this point in the weekend both Ashley and Melanee thought I was too addicted to the Kings. When we went to Pizza the night before I made the poor pizza empolyee look through all the channels on the TV to find me the Kings game. The next morning, I looked up the Kings web site on the computer in the motel lounge. The girls laughed at me for both those things. But we had talked about the Kings and all knew that KEVIN MARTIN was our favorite King.
As we stood there, STAR STRUCK, staring at him.....him and the girl he was with started walking toward us. I wanted to say something to him, couldn't think of anything fast enough. When he was just past us, I said, "Wwwwwe aaaaaare rrrrrreally bbbbbig Kkkkkings fffffans!" I'm sure I sounded STUPID. Then he said, "Hi, How's it going?" We said NOTHING. LOL. We didn't even answer him, just stood there, hearts pounding. So now he is further away from us so we start talking. We want his picture. Melanee has a camera phone. But the girls think it would be rude to go up and ask for a picture. I think it would be rude to sneak up and take one. So I drag them over to him and I ask if I can get the girls picture with him. He said "yes", stood up and I took it. I know that it came out fuzzy because I was shaking! We walked outside. We were so crazy excited. We called people we knew, we told people in the parking lot that we just met Kevin Martin. It was funny. Ashley kept calling her friends, but they didn't even know who Kevin Martin was. Melanee said, "It doesn't even matter if we win tonight...the was the BEST soccer tournament EVER!"I wish we would have been brave enough to ask for a picture with me in it, too! (We didn't want to bug him....tooooooooo much.)

When I was a kid we would always stop at the Donner Monument when we drove to Lake Tahoe.....so I made my family stop and pose in front of it this year.....don't they look thrilled???
