The Dangers of Drunk Driving.
Drunk driving is very dangerous. Alcohol causes one to not be as aware. It also slows one's reflexes. This is a real problem when one is driving. Drunk drivers get into car accidents because they cannot tell what is happening around them or they cannot react fast enough.
Drunk driving is dangerous to many different people. When one drives an automobile while under the influence of alcohol they put themselves in danger. Because one cannot react as fast to actions happening around them and their automobile accidents happen and people are killed. Many times it is not the driver that dies. When this happens not only do the drivers have to go to jail but they have to live with the fact that they killed someone because of their irresponsibility. The driver obviously, is not the only person affected by drunk driving. When a drunk driver kills someone the family and friends of the victim are affected.

Drunk Driving is becoming a major concern in our society today. Drunk driving is not a funny thing. It has killed many people and ruined the lives of many others. There are many stupid reasons drunk driving occurs. I believe the main one is just pure stupidity. Teenagers most likely will drink in their lifetime. After that happens, they need to know that they are not capable of driving. This knowledge could prevent many accidents. Drinking is not necessarily a bad thing, if you are a responsible drinker. I think that if you know your going to a party and there is going to be alcohol, then you can reserve a ride before the party takes place. It's all about taking responsibility for your own actions. It seems so ridiculous that people don't have the common sense to know they can cause mass destruction if they are drunk behind the wheel. It's a terrible thing to know that you can be killed because of somebody else's stupidity.
There are those of your friends that would have you believe that drinking and driving is acceptable. They would have you believe that there wouldn't be any consequences, that you'd still be coordinated enough, that everything would be okay. So you drink a few bottles of beer, and your BAC is well over .08%. You are legally drunk. You're driving along. Everything is shifting in and out of focus. The road is swimming in opposite directions. Your friends are laughing in the back seat, chiding each other on and drinking more and more as the ride progresses. Suddenly you see a flash of light. Where did that come from? You swerve to avoid it, but you hit a rather large something with a blaring horn head on. Inertia jerks your head forward into the steering wheel; weight passes by you. All you can hear is loud screams and the sickening shatter of glass, which is everywhere. A loud crunching emanates from below you. Pain rips through your legs and up into your torso. Your mind is numb.
Drunk driving is considered a serious crime in every state. It is wrong, irresponsible and wastes many lives. People who abuse alcohol hurt everyone around them, endanger public safety, and create carnage on the nation’s highways. There is nothing positive that can come out of drunk driving, so why do people do it? It is society’s job to punish these menaces and try to take control of this out of control issue. America doesn’t want to watch idly as hundreds of people are killed each day. We want to take a stand and let the world know that we may be the “land of the free and the brave” but there is nothing brave or free about driving drunk. What should be done about this problem is debatable and certainly open to discussion, but the first step is lowering the BAC (blood alcohol concentration) level from .10 to .08. Many states have already done this and I commend them on this decision, but the government needs to mandate this to all the states.
Driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol is one of the most dangerous things you can do. There is a mass of research evidence to show that driving performance and reaction times are seriously affected by alcohol. Our law in Georgia states, that it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle if your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) exceeds .10%. Georgia observes a "per se" law. (Craft) If you drink and drive, you are not only a danger to yourself but also to your passenger, other road users and pedestrians. In fact, every 30 minutes, someone in this country dies in alcohol-related crash. Every 30 minutes! And last year alone more than one million people are injured in alcohol-related traffic crashes. Alcohol is a depressant that slows down body reactions and the working of the brain. Each year drunk driving is responsible for about 25% of these deaths. The risks of drinking are alcohol-related accidents and violence. The effects of alcohol are poor coordination and slurred speech, double vision, decrease of self-control loss of consciousness and death.
There are legal consequences due to drinking also. The more a person drinks, the more their ability to make important decisions becomes impaired. After just one drink, a driver can lose their ability to perform the tasks necessary to drive a car. At a certain point, a driver will become illegally intoxicated and can be arrested for attempting to operate a motor vehicle. In every state on out country there is a legal limit to how much alcohol you can have in your body if you are driving. If you drink and drive you can lose your driver's license and even go to jail. Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for teens and young adults. More than 5,000 young people die every year in car crashes and thousands more are injured. Drivers who are 16 years old are more than 20 times as likely to have a crash, as are other drivers. There are two main reasons why teens are at a higher for being in a car crash and lack of driving experience and their tendency to take risks while driving. Teens drive faster and do not control the car as well as more experienced drivers. Their judgment in traffic is often insufficient to avoid a crash. In addition, teens do most of their driving at night, which can be even more difficult. Standard driver's education classes include 30 hours of classroom teaching and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training. This is not enough time to fully train a new driver. Teen drivers are more like to be influence by peers and other stresses and distractions. This can lead to reckless driving behaviors such as speeding, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and not wearing safety belts. There is no safe amount that you can drink and still drive. Even one drink can influence your driving offences. Nowadays, drunk driving has become driving while intoxicated, driving while impaired, driving while under the influence, operating while under the influence (impaired, intoxicated, or whatever), and in many states, one can be convicted of DUI even though the police didn't even see you drive. (JMD) It is often too late by the time they seek help. They face losing their license; having embarrassing court appearances, press coverage and heavy fines. Many are just ordinary people who have a few social drinks, get behind the wheel and then get pulled over by the police. Such as Henri Paul that thought he was not too drunk to drive. However, evidence proves otherwise in this report that states, French pathologists drew five separate samples: blood from directly above the heart; also urine, eye fluid, bile and hair. These showed: a. A blood-alcohol level of about 180 milligrams per 100 ml. equivalent to eight or nine scotch whiskies, which is three times over the legal limit in France. b. A little over 20% carboxy hemoglobin, which is inhaled carbon monoxide. c. Traces of two drugs, the antidepressant Prozac and Tiapridal, a drug used to treat alcohol addiction; the Prozac taken regularly since May that year, and the Tiapridal since July. So try to manage your life so that you do not drink and drive. If you go out for a drink, try to go somewhere that you can reach either on foot or by public transportation. Think about sharing the driving on different days with a group of people so that you can take turns at driving. If you do drink even though you meant not to, and you went out with your vehicle, consider taking a taxi or take a Safe ride home and leave your vehicle behind. (Saferide) This is a whole lot cheaper than getting prosecuted!

Drinking and driving is one of the poorest choices an individual can make. Unfortunately, too many kids, adults, women and men are making this unwise choice. Drunk Drivers endanger themselves and others on the road. In fact, one-third of the deaths for people from fifteen to twenty years of age are caused by alcohol, either by the victim or the killer.
Most drinkers enjoy drinking heavily at parties at night, and usually, they or their friend drives to the party. A lot of the time, nobody is worried about the designated driver and must understand that designated driver is always necessary. Even if drinkers think they have “only had a little” to drink they also have to realize that their first drink affects their driving skills by slowing their reflexes, blurring their vision and negatively affecting their judgment. One drink is too much. College students also are dangerous, with more than 3 million nationwide being binge drinkers.
A usual alcohol-related fatal accident is caused by a drunk driver with a .17 BAC. These people are usually 25-35. This is a very dangerous BAC level because it is almost twice the legal limit in most cases. A greater deterrent must be made against drinking and driving because studies report that the existing deterrents are slaps on the wrist to most offenders. Whatever the case, it is a serious problem that needs a solution quickly.
Drunk driving. Risk your life and others and face the consequences or not take the chance? If your one of those who likes to take risks hopefully I can change your mind of DWI, driving while intoxicated.
Drunk driving is the act of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with alcohol. In the United States alone, 17,419 people died in 2002 in drunken driving collisions, representing 41 percent of total traffic deaths. Over 500,000 people were injured in 2001. The legal blood alcohol level in the United States is 0.08% only three states use the more lax once common standard of 0.10%. Many jurisdictions add extra penalties more jail time or a longer DUI program in cases where the driver's blood alcohol content is over 0.20%. An average person would have passed out from that much alcohol. To be able to drive at that level a person has to have gotten drunk regularly for years, to increase his or her intolerance.

Besides getting arrested, paying a fine, or losing your license you can also kill or injure yourself or someone else. Which can not only make that person suffer but also there family and friends. If it is a possibility please try to stop a drunken person from driving.

Think about it next time your drunk and you want to drive, think about the life or lives you can save, and always remember to think before you drink.
