Layout Highlights

Can you believe Christmas is just a week away? I hope you all are enjoying the holidays. Here's some fun inspiration from the gallery this week.

I loved this calendar topper by amber565. Here layering and shadow work make the page come to life. The recipient of this calendar is going to be very happy! I would love looking at these pages each day next year. Check out her gallery. The other toppers are just as darling!

For this page, she used the super cute Halloween kit, "Haunted"

This page by Karen32 jumped right out at me. So clever and creative! The big dinosaur and the footprints give the page so much fun and life.

She used the new kit, "Ancient Discoveries" and "Ancient Discoveries Graffiti" for her page.

The layouts are linked for some love! Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

Sunday Helper: Partially colored black/white pic

OK, it's monday now, but I had some uploading issues yesterday, so here you go.

Do you love black and white pics? But sometimes you need a little color pop out? OK, let's start.

Open your pic and duplicate the layer. Now go to your layer palette, press your Alt-key and click on the little black/white circle and go to Hue/Saturation:

Check the box where it says group layers and press OK.

Now we created a new adjustment layer and a new window is popping up. Put your saturation completely to the left and if you want, you can play a little with the different colors.

Go to your brush now and paint on your adjustment layer. Black brings your original color, white takes it back to b/w.

When you're finished and like what you did, just merge layers and you're done!

Hope you liked this little tutorial.

Back to Ancient Times and Freebie

We love as a family to go to the Museum. We visit the Dinosaur Museum, Natural History Museum and Children's Museum at least once a year. My kids adore it. They love seeing all the fossils, statues, and gems. I wanted to create a kit that was perfect for all those Museum activities. BUT, it ended up being soooo big that I split it into two different kits. Ancient Discoveries is the first collection. It has everything from our world that was from Ancient times (Fossils, Rome, Egypt and Gems). I also created an add on with Africa, Vikings, Greece, China and Mayan. In a few weeks I will have the other Museum collection with all the "New Discoveries", so look forward to that.

I also have some new CU Paper Flowers for you on sale in my shop:

Layout-Highlights

It's tuesday today what means, time for our Layout-Highlights. Wow, half the countdown to christmas is nearly over, only 2 weeks are left. Are you in christmas mood now? I'm not really, last weekend we had lot's of snow here in Germany but now mostly every little bit left again and it's only muddy and rainy. But wait a minute, for this mood I found the perfect LO today by rlsu. It shows us absolutely perfect summer times, just love it and I even love it more for beeing a wonderful double page, just have a look:

rlsu used DBD's absolutely stunning Splash Zone. Did you see the great water slide inside the kit?

The next page caught my eye is also a double pager made by nurselisa0124 which comes in two single pages (did I tell you, I'm totally addicted to double pages):

She used the Swim Bike Run kit by Cheri:

Sunday Tutorial-Alignment & Distribution

Happy Sunday! It's another week and only a little over two weeks until Christmas. Crazy, crazy!! I'm working on getting our Christmas cards put together and wanted to share a little something that I had never known about until recently that has made centering text and things so much easier!

Have you ever used the alignment or distribution buttons (in PSE)? I had always noticed them but never knew how to use them or what they were for. Crazy right? I've been using Photoshop for years! Just goes to show you that there is always something new to learn.

Using these two things has helped my sanity when creating cards or layouts. I'm very particular about having things lined up correctly and evenly and often spent too much time trying to get it just right before. But now, I can do it in just a few clicks!

Here's an example with using text. First, type out the different lines of your text.

Next, right click while holding shift to select all of the layers you would like aligned or distributed.

Then, go up to "Align" and, for this one, hit "Horizontal Centers". It will automatically line up all of the type with their middles.

And here's one using the "Horizontal Centers". I want to horizontally line up the "and" and "Happy" on the same line. So, I go back to "Align" and select the "Horizontal Centers" button.

Ta-da! All lined up. It has other features that allow you to line things up with their edges. The Distribute button (right next to Align) is similar except that it evenly distributes things according to their space. This is really nice to do if you're trying to do a series of embellishments or letters and you want them spaced out evenly. It's saved me so much time, especially when I'm using alphas for a a title.

I hope this helps you save some time! Have a great week!
