Home Cooking for Longdogs

We all love our longdogs, don't we?  I am firm believer that homecooking for them is one best things we can do.

The basics of home cooking:

Meat:  turkey, lamb, venison, bison

Grains: brown rice, wild rice, quinoa, barely,

Vegetables:  Broccoli, Kale, Carrots, Squash, Snap
Peas, it goes on and on and on

Fruit:  Apples (no seeds!) apple sauce, purreed peach

Other: Pumpkin, Sweet Potatos,

Occasionally:  Unsalted broths, Fat Free Greek Yogurt

The basic recipie is:
1 part meat
1 part grains plus pumpkin and/or sweet potatos
2 parts vegetables

I cook the meat in a slow cooker and then coarsely grate the meat in the food processor

I steam the grains.  Cook and grate the sweet potatos.  I leave the skins on the sweet potatos.

I grate or chop all the vegetables fairly fine.  I usually use raw vegatables.

Mix the grains with a can of pumpkin and sweet potatos if desired.  I always use the pumpkin and sweet potato.

Mix all of the above. I use my bosch machine. You can add broth to the mix for moisture.  If you want to add yogurt do so just before serving.

Just before serving I add 2 tbsp of apple sauce or a 1/4 cup of grated apple.  Mix well.

One thing to note.  I do give the longdogs supplements.   I use Whole Hound Total Health Plus,  Whole Hound Calcium Health, alternating every other day and Flax Lecithin Blend every day.  Thanks to bowwowhaus for all of their information on supplements.

Fritize helped me get started with home cooking and with the help of lots of other people it has been a great success.
