Bringing Up Boys...

I always dreamed of bringing up a batch of slicked up little boys.

Maybe it's the Mother Goose in me...
...But I think little boys are the best!

Who wouldn't want to wake up to this smile?

Or watch this little one dream?

Or draw?

Or discover?

Or grow?

Who wouldn't want to feed him healthy food?
(This was one of our Bountiful Baskets.)

Or send him camping with his daddy?
(These boys literally waited by the parking lot for an entire day for their dad to get home from work so they could go to the Father and Son's Campout-- or "Brother and Son's" as they call it.)

Who wouldn't want to buzz this little head or tickle those toes?

Can't help but feel grateful to be a proud mother...

...of two little boys.

Little Learners...

It was so fun to do preschool with Seth and his little friends.  I really miss that cute group.  They were all quite cooperative; like when I had them doing Yoga poses, they were right with me.  Why does that just tickle me?
I gave them an art lesson, and they really did pretty well for preschoolers.
Here is the same lesson with some of my art students.

I just love these little kids and watching them grown and learn.  I love taking walks with the boys-- they are so good at noticing the little things along the way.

Isn't being part of a family the best?!  There is just a lot of give and take that stretches us.
I know Doug probably won't appreciate me sharing this, but it kind of cracked me up as I was looking back through pictures.
From time to time the girls get a little worried they won't get enough dinner. (And I feed them well, so it's pretty silly) but one night I made "just enough" BBQ muffin cups and they were kind of a hit, but they panicked when Doug took an extra one.  He got frustrated with them {and the poor guy does happen to be the one who puts the food on our table} and I found these notes that evening on his pillow.  I guess it's good that the girls have learned to "articulate" their concerns.

I love going on field trips with the boys, too!  We decided to be adventurous and take the bus downtown when our car was in the shop getting fixed.  We hiked over to the capital building for the National Day of Prayer.  It was really neat.

We had a little Pita before and that greatly improved the boy's behavior. :)

I feel excited when people gather to be grateful and to remember how this great nation was formed and who is in charge.

It was really neat after when the boys got to meet Butch Otter, the Idaho Governor.  He gave them hugs-- it was pretty cool.

It was a fun adventure and so delightful to see them be amazed by little things like bus rides. :)  I learn so much from their little curious, excited minds.

The girls love to cook-- they made some pudding with their sweet friend Alicia that spends a lot of time at our house.  Cute girl!

And speaking of always learning, you never know what you might run into on your walk home from school. (Thank goodness every cloud has a silver lining, because this was just after we discovered someone had stolen Autumn's bike.)

10 Year Anniversary Post (5 Months Belated)...

This is Douglas...
...The man who makes my dreams come true everyday.
He's the one I live, love, and laugh with.

He's the guy who brings me home 3 dozen roses for our 10 year anniversary.

He makes reservations at fun hotels.

And takes me out to tour the city when I really need a get-away.

We sip cider together at the farmers market.

Or share delicious crepes to remember our amazing Europe honeymoon.

He takes me to art museums and feeds me yummy sourdough sandwiches.
He makes me so happy!

So I make him tonkatsu...
This may seem like it's all about food.
Yes, that is certainly part of it. :)
But it is SO MUCH MORE!

I really love this guy.
Best husband.
Best father.
Best friend a woman could ask for.
So glad I get to go through life and eternity with this amazing man.
Ten good years and many more to come!

(Special thanks to Aunt Catherine for tending the kids to help Doug make my dreams come true.)
