Vancouver Winter Olympics: A Festival of Corporate Greed

When Vancouver first submitted a bid for the Winter Olympics, the budget for “security” was said to be $175-million. The final cost will exceed $1-billion. An army of Canadian military, federal police agencies and municipal police, about 10,000 altogether, will police the city, complemented by some 5,000 security guards.

A vast network of surveillance cameras of public spaces has been installed, and barbed wire fences and other barriers are going up all over the region to keep protesters and the non-ticket holding public away from Games venues. Police have stepped up harassment and intimidation of anti-Olympics organizers across Canada, in some cases visiting homes and workplaces to interrogate not only Games’ critics but also their acquaintances.

The rationale for the overwhelming display of military and police power is the same as that used to justify the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine – that behind every corner lurks a potential “terrorist threat” and the only way to combat that threat is to wage war. Police have warned they will arrest anyone who attempts to stage protests of the Games near venues or along key transportation routes.'

Police State Canada 2010 and the Olympics

In advance of the 2010 Winter Olympics, critics of the Games have been subjected to surveillance, harassment, along with other intimidation tactics. Voicing opposition to the Olympics appears to be all that is needed for one to be labeled as a security threat. There are concerns over the negative impacts associated with holding the Games, as well as concerted efforts to stifle anti-Olympic expression. As the Coca-Cola/RBC corporate torch relay nears its final destination, the opening ceremonies in Vancouver on February 12, 2010, more protests are expected. The Olympics are providing the perfect cover for many police state measures with ramifications that could leave a lasting legacy.'

Police State Canada 2010 and the Dark Side of the Olympics

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, from February 12-28. It will be the largest security operation in Canadian history. Military planners will undoubtedly use it as a template for securing future high profile events. Canadian security officials continue to work closely with their American counterparts in preparation for the test that the Games will pose to the security of its shared border. Integration of Canada’s security and military structures with the U.S. have already been advanced through the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD), NORTHCOM, the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP), the Bi-National Planning Group, the Civil Assistance Plan, as well as other initiatives. Training and security provisions for the Olympics might be used to further accelerate the merging of U.S-Canada command structures and the militarization of North America. The 2010 Olympics will be a hellhole of police state measures with far-reaching effects that could remain in place long after the Games are finished.

Canada Introduces Law To Imprison or Fine Anti Olympic Protestors

Powers that would allow B.C. municipalities directly involved in the Olympics to "swiftly" seize illegal signs and levy penalties of up to $10,000 or hand out up to six months jail time for violators are too broad, says a civil liberties group.

The province introduced legislation this week that would give municipal officers the ability to enter private residences and remove or cover what's deemed to be illegal signage after giving only 24 hours notice.

Owing to vague wording in Vancouver's city bylaw, the group fears the stiff penalties - yet to be adopted - will be used during the 2010 Games to stifle anti-Olympic sentiment.

Rights Go Out the Window to Create a Seamless 2010 Olympics Circus

In the flush of bidding for and winning the right to host the Olympics, nobody talked about how staging them might mean limiting civil liberties.

It's only now, with seven months until the 2010 Winter Games begin, that organizers and compliant politicians are revealing plans to make it more difficult to exercise our fundamental constitutional rights to free speech, peaceful assembly and free expression.

For months now, police have been knocking on the doors of known activists and tracking them down in their neighbourhoods to "chat" about their Olympic protest plans. But that's only part of it.

An omnibus bylaw that staff insists is "critical to the success of the Games" goes to Vancouver city council today.

The bylaw relaxes rules for Games-related events, limits free expression and speech in public and private spaces, and grants sweeping discretionary powers to Mayor Gregor Robertson and City Manager Penny Ballem to do whatever is "warranted," "necessary or desirable" to ensure the Olympics' "safety and security" and "protection of commercial rights."

Ancient Mass Grave Found on 2012 Olympics Site

An ancient burial pit containing 45 severed skulls, that could be a mass war grave dating back to Roman times, has been found under a road being built for the 2012 British Olympics.

Archaeologists, who have only just begun excavating the site, say they do not yet know who the bones might belong to.

"We think that these dismembered bodies are likely to be native Iron Age Britons. The question is -- how did they die and who killed them," said dig head, David Score, of Oxford Archaeology.

Spy Bugs May be Deployed for 2012 Olympics

BRITISH police are studying Chinese-style surveillance tactics as they prepare security for the 2012 London Olympics, a leaked Scotland Yard report has revealed.

The report, marked “restricted”, reveals that among the “Big Brother” tactics deployed at last summer’s Beijing Games was the installation of miniature microphones in thousands of taxis.

The bugs transmitted passengers’ conversations to a police control room. There, officers could activate disabling devices to stop the cabs if they suspected criminal activity.

In another operation, athletes, visitors and journalists were believed to have been tracked by tiny microchips on their tickets and passes.

Foreign Workers Win Olympic Jobs: 1 in 3 Employed at Key 2012 Site is From Abroad

Nearly a third of workers at the Olympic site in London are foreigners, official figures reveal.

They show that just 63 per cent of the 3,315 workers on the Olympic Park are British and eight per cent are Irish. The remaining 29 per cent are foreign workers, half of whom hail from non-EU countries.

The Olympic Delivery Authority has pledged to employ local people, creating a skills legacy for East London in line with Gordon Brown's promise of 'British jobs for British workers'.

But yesterday contractors on the £9.3billion project said that the sudden downturn meant they were having to move existing workers to the 2012 site to prevent redundancies, and so had been unable to hire local workers.

But the Mail has learnt that Olympic jobs offering salaries of up to £65,000 are currently being advertised abroad to foreign workers.

US-UK Intel Readies Turkestan Islamic Terror Gambit For Beijing Olympics

Reliable Australian intelligence sources have issued a warning that US-UK intelligence is attempting to mount a false flag terror operation against China, quite possibly featuring a gaggle of patsies calling themselves the "Turkestan Islamic Party," at the upcoming Beijing Olympics, where the eyes of the world will be concentrated next week. The goal of the operation will be to duplicate or surpass the bloodbaths the Mexico City 1968 and/or Munich 1972 summer games. Commandant Seyfullah of the Turkestan Islamic Party (TIP) claims in a video tirade displayed by a US company's website to represent the Turkish Moslems of Sinkiang province or Chinese Turkestan, where the Anglo-Americans have long sponsored an abortive separatist movement. Patsy leader Seyfullah and his Turkestan Islamic Party have been indirectly mentioned twice over the past two years by Ayman Zawahiri, the veteran British agent who functions as the real leader of "al Qaeda," in effect sheep- dipping the little known TIP in the vast pool of "al Qaeda" notoriety. If the planned operation actually takes place, the current Chinese leadership will in the hopes of the plotters -- loose face and forfeit the mandate of heaven, the prerequisites for continued rule. This could then be the prelude to the installation of a new Chinese government far less committed to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and to cooperation with Russia. It might be a first step towards splitting the SCO and turning Beijing against Moscow, which is the current goal of Anglo-American grand strategy.
