GM Public Consultation Has 'No Credibility' - Say Campaigners

The 'public dialogue' set up by Government quango the Food Standards Agency is already in disarray after the vice chairman resigned.

Professor Brian Wynne said the FSA was promoting GM 'propaganda' and incapable of carrying out an objective public consultation.

Now the Soil Association, Friends of the Earth, GM Watch and two other non-Governmental organisations have written to the FSA in support of Prof Wynne.'

Big Agriculture Lobbyists Wrote UK Government's Report on GM Foods

A powerful lobbying organisation representing agribusiness interests helped draft a key government report that has been attacked by environmentalists for heavily favouring the arguments of the genetically modified food industry.

The revelation comes after the resignation of two government advisers who have criticised the close relationship between the Food Standards Agency (FSA), the body that oversees the UK's food industry, and the GM lobby.

Emails between the FSA and the Agricultural Biotechnology Council (ABC) show the council inserted key sentences strengthening the case for GM food that ended up in the final report.'

Minister: Britain Will Open the Door to Frankenstein Food

Genetically modified crops were last night given enthusiastic backing by the Environment Secretary. Caroline Spelman shocked colleagues by suggesting that the coalition government will take a more pro-GM stance than its Labour predecessor. The Tories have traditionally taken a sceptical approach to so- called 'Frankenstein foods', and at present no GM varieties are cultivated commercially in the UK.'

GMO Alert: U.S. Attempting Global Censorship of GMO Food Labeling

I received an urgent alert from Jeffrey Smith today about a dangerous situation taking place right now at the international CODEX conference. The U.S. is attempting to push its agenda to censor all GMO labeling of foods everywhere around the world. This would result in a global GMO cover-up as consumers are left in the dark about whether their foods and grocery products are genetically modified or not.

Please understand that the U.S. is attempting to outlaw non-GMO labeling of foods, thereby making it illegal for a non-GMO food product to even claim "non-GMO" on the label. If the U.S. succeeds in this global GMO cover-up, the FDA could seize any products in the USA that make "non-GMO" claims. Additionally, the USA could file lawsuits through the World Trade Organization against any country that allows non-GMO labeling or claims on its products.'

It Is Too Late to Shut the Door on GM Foods

Ten years ago, when the genetic modification of food was first offered to the British public, it responded with a resounding no, and politicians and the food industry said GM would not be foisted on reluctant consumers. As far as most people are concerned, that is still the situation today; they think their diet remains GM-free. A report from the Royal Society to be published on Wednesday will spark an intense new phase in the GM debate, however, during which the public may be surprised to discover how far GM has already penetrated our food supply.

Supermarkets in 'Secret Talks to Introduce GM Foods to the Shelves'

The big supermarkets have held secret talks to pave the way for the introduction of controversial GM crops on to their shelves, industry sources said last night.
The stores banned GM ingredients more than ten years ago in response to public anxiety about their impact on human health and the environment.
But a source indicated that all the major supermarkets were involved in the discussions except Waitrose.

UK Government Ramping up the Case for GM Crops

The British people face wartime rations and a vegetarian diet in the event of a world food shortage, a new official assessment on the UK’s food security suggests today.

Even though the nation is 73 per cent self-sufficient in food production, higher than during the 1950s, the food chain is at risk from global influences such as a worldwide increase in population, climate change bringing extreme weather patterns, higher oil prices and more crops being grown for bio-fuel instead of food.

Supplies in future may also be disrupted by animal disease outbreaks, disruption of power supplies, trade disputes and interruptions for shipping and at ports.

The UK however has one of the highest cereal production capabilities in the world with seven tonnes grown per hectare, compared a world average of 3.3 tonnes per hectare.

Government Launches Bid to Allay Fears Over GM Food

The Government has asked its top scientist to investigate the merits of genetically modified food in the hope that his verdict will allay public fears about so-called "Frankenstein foods".
Officially, Gordon Brown and his ministers remain neutral on the issue of GM because of public hostility, saying that they will be "guided by the science". But they have quietly ordered a major research project, which they hope will provide the launchpad for a campaign to persuade people that GM food is safe.

GMO and Morgellon's Syndrome

Since the Clinton administration made biotechnology “a strategic priority for U.S. government backing” (1), giant transnational agri-business concerns have aggressively taken over the global food chain by flooding it with Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) without regard for the consequences to the earth or its inhabitants. This takeover not only has the potential for global economic devastation, but threatens the earth’s population with far-reaching health concerns as well. One health concern that seems to coincide with the GMO revolution is Morgellons disease.
What if the advent of Morgellons disease has something to do with the ingestion of GMO foods?

Fresh fears over Tesco dominance after key Competition Commission victory

The commission had planned to implement a rule banning supermarket chains from opening new stores in areas where their market shares are already too large.
However an appeal against the proposed rule by Tesco was upheld, raising fears that the supermarket's growth will be allowed to continue unabated.
Tesco already has a 30 per cent share of the UK food market. Campaigners said that the successful appeal by the retail group could lead to the continued spread of so-called Tesco Towns, such as Inverness, where over half all money spent on food and drink is spent in a Tesco.
"This green light for further Tesco dominance is a disaster for consumers, local shops and the environment," said Helen Rimmer, a spokesperson for Tescopoly, a pressure group.

Tesco Promoting Genetically Modified Food

Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy has signalled that the retailer is willing to back genetically modified (GM) foods, saying consumer attitudes have changed and it has a vital part to play.

He added that there also seemed to be a growing appreciation by people that GM was likely to play "a vital role in feeding the world, in adapting to climate change and indeed in producing some of these more nutritional products – foods - that people will need".

British Scientists Condemn Using Children in GM Food Trials as Unacceptable

Children have been used as 'lab rats' in GM rice trials that were carried out in breach of ethics rules drawn up in response to the medical crimes of Nazi Germany, it is claimed.

A group of 22 scientists are condemning a controversial trial involving feeding GM rice to children in China and the US. (photo: The Daily Mail)
Youngsters aged 6-10 were fed so-called Golden Rice, which has been modified to contain enhanced levels of beta carotene or vitamin A.

The rice is being developed to combat Vitamin A deficiency, which is linked to damage to the sight, poor brain development and immune system failure.

However high consumption can also have harmful toxic effects and cause birth defects.

Critics are furious that the GM rice was not put through animal feeding trials to ensure it was safe before being given to children.

The Non-GMO Project Product Verification Program is Up and Running

The governments of the US and Canada stand in sharp contrast to sixty other countries around the world, including the European Union, Russia, and China, by not requiring foods that contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs) to be so labeled. They do so despite good evidence that GMOs could have negative health implications for humans and the environment, and despite the fact that 87% of American consumers want products that contain GMO ingredients to be labeled.

GM Crops and Food Threaten Human Fertility and Health Confirmed

A long-term feeding study commissioned by the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety, managed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Health, Family and Youth, and carried out by Veterinary University Vienna, confirms genetically modified (GM) corn seriously affects reproductive health in mice. Non-GMO advocates, who have warned about this infertility link along with other health risks, now seek an immediate ban of all GM foods and GM crops to protect the health of humankind and the fertility of women around the world.

The Latest GM Propoganda - The Cancer Fighting Tomato

PURPLE cancer-fighting tomatoes have been genetically engineered by British scientists.
The fruits, which resemble tomato-like plums, have already been shown to extend the lives of cancer-prone mice.Scientists say they could be on sale within three years – but probably not in the UK because of strict European rules about genetically modified food.
