HELP URGENTLY NEEDED

Hi everyone.

Well the time has come to ask you all to dig deep into your pockets and see if you can spare any hard earned money to keep this going. I am currently in the process of trying to move the site away from Blogger ( I don't want to be dependent on Google, would you?) and into an independent website, I have bought the domain name http://www.dotconnector.co.uk/ and have got the web hosting sorted although it is going to cost a lot more than I originally anticipated as the hits on the site keeps growing and growing so the hosting I have got is just enough to set the thing up but with the increased traffic to the site as it stands now and the amount of content that is added both daily and my plans for the new site mean that the costs are going to expand dramatically.

I envisage that I am going to need somewhere in the region of about £700 per month to cover all the costs both direct and indirect.

I know that times are tough for us all but with 1000+ visitors per day on the site it would mean that if only a days worth of visitors each donated £0.70 then we will have achieved our goal.

Marius Kloppers, the chief executive of BHP Billiton, warned that the Australian economy would suffer significantly if the country did not implement a carbon tax before the international community imposed one. Israeli Army Assassinates Hamas Leader

Israeli forces entered the home of a Hamas leader in Tulkarem on Friday morning and shot him three times in the neck and chest before withdrawing, family members said.

Medics at the Thabit Thabit Hospital in Tulkarem confirmed that 38-year-old Iyad As’ad Shelbaya, a known Hamas leader, was dead, killed by three bullets to the neck and chest.

Shelbaya lived in the Nur Shams refugee camp east of Tulkarem. Security sources said he was assassinated during a raid on his home at 2:30 a.m. on Friday morning.'

The TSA individuals in the area are not airport screeners but more senior officials of the aviation security agency, part of the Department of Homeland Security. In 2000 and 2001, it was the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) that initiated an investigation of the activity as an intelligence operation by Israel but the investigation was eventually halted a few months prior to 9/11 on the orders of Attorney General John Ashcroft and FBI director Louis Freeh. After 9/11 and the revelation of the Israeli operation in the media, FBI director Robert Mueller continued the “hands-off” approach to the Israeli activity.'

Jordanian reliable government sources revealed that Israel has tacitly admitted responsibility for the rockets fired from the Sinai desert and hit targets in the Jordanian port of Aqaba killing one Jordanian citizen.

US Orders Firms to Plug Gulf Oil Wells

The US has ordered oil and gas companies operating in the Gulf of Mexico to permanently plug nearly 3,500 nonproducing wells in a bid to prevent future oil leaks.

The US Department of the Interior will also oblige firms to dismantle 650 production platforms that are no longer in use, the Washington Post reported.

"We are notifying offshore operators of their legal responsibility to decommission and dismantle their facilities when production is completed," US Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said in a statement on Wednesday.'

Jewish Aid Ship to Set Sail for Gaza

European and US Jewish activists say they plan to send an aid ship to the Gaza Strip in an attempt to break the Israeli siege of the impoverished Palestinian territory.

The Jewish groups have joined in an effort to demonstrate that Israel's blockade of Gaza is ineffectual in preserving Israeli security, said Kate Katzenstein-Leiterer, an official of German-based Jewish Voice organization.

It is a blunt instrument of collective punishment on the people of Gaza, she went on to say.'

Government X-Ray Vans Ply Nations Highways

A plain white van moving through traffic on a busy thoroughfare looks like a delivery vehicle, making a run to a local business.

It could be any plain white van in any American city.

But there are two men sitting in the back of the van operating X-ray machines. As their panel van moves in and out of traffic, the men use the X-ray machines to scan passing vehicles, peering behind the walls of the adjoining trucks to discover if the targets are carrying weapons, drugs or illegal immigrants.

We were testing a theory that the chemical composition of the dispersant they were using was causing the oil to sink. And we’d been there for approximately three days, and federal agents flat told us to get out. And it wasn’t Fish and Wildlife officers. These were Homeland Security officers, and we were told that it was in the interest of national security.

So basically The Department of Homeland Security is working FOR BP!? This is open treason and should be prosecuted accordingly! If this was just a normal oil disaster why would Homeland Security be confiscating scientific samples?'

Feds Spent $800,000 of Economic Stimulus on African Genital-Washing Program

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), spent $823,200 of economic stimulus funds in 2009 on a study by a UCLA research team to teach uncircumcised African men how to wash their genitals after having sex.

The genitalia-washing program is part of a larger $12-million UCLA study examining how to better encourage Africans to undergo voluntary HIV testing and counseling – however, only the penis-washing study received money from the 2009 economic stimulus law. The washing portion of the study is set to end in 2011.'

Belgian Catholic Church Sex Abuse: We Feared Compensation Claims

Guy Harpigny, the bishop of Tournai and the senior cleric responsible for rooting out sex abusers within the Belgian church's ranks, has further inflamed outrage by confessing that financial concerns over litigation stopped an official apology.

"We did not dare. If you officially apologise, then you are acknowledging moral and legal responsibility. Then there are people who ask for money and we don't know what lawyers and the courts will do about that," he said.

There has been widespread anger that Belgium's bishops have failed to apologise and begged for more time to deal with an independent report that uncovered sex abuse committed by at least 91 priests, other clergy or church workers in every congregation in Belgium, taking place over four decades.'

BP And Partners Say Most Victims Not Yet Entitled to Sue

BP and its partners in the blown-out Gulf well said on Monday that thousands of fishermen, seafood processors, restaurants, hotel owners and others may not yet have the right to sue over the spill, according to court papers.

BP and its partners such as Transocean Ltd and Halliburton Co said the majority of alleged victims who have brought about 400 lawsuits must first take their claims to a $20 billion fund established by BP.

The $20 billion fund is dependent upon the US granting BP continued access to deep water drilling.'

Proteins called amyloid plaques which build up in the brain of dementia sufferers are thought to be linked to the onset of symptoms such as memory loss and mental impairment.

Now scientists claim to have established a link between the production of the plaques and a separate process through which the brain converts sugar into energy, known as aerobic glycolysis.

Scans of a group of young adults, whose average age was 25, showed that aerobic glycolysis was especially high in the same areas of the brain where amyloid plaques build up in older patients, including Alzheimer's sufferers.'

I’ve been an IISS member for over 20 years. IISS’s reports are always authoritative but usually cautious and diplomatic, sometimes dull. However, two weeks ago the IISS issued an explosive report on Afghanistan that is shaking Washington and its Nato allies.

The report, presided over by the former deputy director of Britain’s foreign intelligence agency, MI-6, says the threat from al-Qaeda and Taliban has been "exaggerated" by the western powers. The US-led mission in Afghanistan has "ballooned" out of all proportion from its original aim of disrupting and defeating al-Qaeda. The US-led war in Afghanistan, says IISS, using uncharacteristically blunt language, is "a long-drawn-out disaster".'

Massive Fish Kill Reported in Louisiana

What you see above isn't a rural gravel road. It's a Louisiana waterway, its surface completely covered with dead sea life -- a mishmash of species of fish, crabs, stingray and eel. New Orleans CBS affiliate WWL-TV reports that even a whale was found dead in the area.

Fish kills are fairly common along the Gulf Coast, particularly during the summer in the area near the mouth of the Mississippi, the site of this kill. The area is rife with dead zones -- stretches where sudden oxygen depletion can cause widespread death. But those kills tend to be limited to a single species of fish, rather than the broad sort of die-off involved in this kill.

And therein lies the concern of Gulf residents, who suspect this may be yet another side effect of the catastrophic BP oil spill.'

Government Report on Drugging of Detainees Is Suppressed

A major Department of Defense Office of the Inspector General (OIG) investigation on the drugging of detainees held at Guantanamo and other Department of Defense (DoD) facilities was completed almost a year ago and shared with a key Senate committee. But the investigation did not receive any media attention at the time likely due to the fact that the report was classified. News of the completion of the investigation and the report came as a surprise to human rights workers who had been involved in investigating the drugging claims. According to DoD spokesperson, Maj. Tanya Bradsher, the report is classified. While the findings of the investigation is unknown, a spokeswoman for the Senate Armed Services Committee said the OIG's investigation did not substantiate allegations of drugging of prisoners for the "purposes of interrogation." The involuntary use of drugs on prisoners would violate a number of domestic and international laws, as well as basic ethical codes of the medical professions.'
