going back in time

I feel a little like I’m back in college since that was the last time I had this haircut.  I feel so light and free with all that hair gone, however now I actually have to do my hair in the morning, no more pony tails.  That is a bit of a downside.  Crazy bedhead is totally in though right?  Maybe I’ll just rock the bedhead on my lazy days.

And here’s my sassy new haircut…

and we may as well throw in a good belly picture while we’re at it.

Last hurrah

We planned a fun trip to Crested Butte to ski (Ryan and the girls), play in the pool and enjoy the little town.  We wanted to squeeze in one more fun trip before the baby comes.  We left Thursday after school, Ryan had a pretty bad head cold already, but he was hoping he’d already been through the worst of it so we took off for our fun weekend.  We were all so looking forward to it!  That night we got in at 9pm or so and attempted to put kids to bed, Finn put up a HUGE fuss about it, but eventually did fall asleep after tons of crying.  I felt so bad for our neighbors!  We woke up in the morning to find Sadie was now so sick and couldn’t get out of bed and Ryan had had a rough night.  Ryan and Sadie ended up staying in bed all day while Piper enjoyed the swimming pool and then again in the evening with Finn.  At least Pipes had a blast because it was a pretty miserable day for the others.  We went to bed that night without much change in the sickies and then woke up in the morning to Piper puking.  Nice.  That’s when we decided it was time to cut this vacation short.  Sadie was still layed out on the bed not even wanting to sit up, Ryan was feeling slightly better but still not so hot.  And that concluded our big last hurrah of a trip.  We packed up and drove home.  And I am so glad we did!  Piper pretty much puked the whole way home and today they are both quarantined in their bedroom having a nice relaxing day in their beds trying to feel better.

The house is so quiet with the girls tucked away and Finn having so much room to roam so I pulled out my stretchy pants sewing project and got right to work.  I fixed them right up and now they’re actually what I had envisioned instead of the ugly, saggy pants they were after the first go at it, they are now the legwarmer sweats I wanted them to be.  Check that off the list.

and yes, my belly pretty much hangs out of all of my shirts already.  I still have two months to go and my wardrobe is narrowing daily.

what to do, what to do

I’ve been sewing a bit the past little while, but nothing exciting.  Ryan has charged me with altering some of his dress and button up shirts so they’re not the blowsy balloons they have been.  I think I’ve just finished the last of them.  It seems all of my projects as of late have been altering existing clothes mostly shirts and making dresses longer and such, maybe some day I’ll make a business of it Smile.  For now I can’t think of anything else that needs altering/fixing.  Okay that’s not true, as I type this I’m remembering some comfy pants I started and need to work on the pattern because they fit pretty horrendously….that doesn’t sound too exciting though so it may sit a bit longer.  Usually I make my own patterns, but this time I bought one from BurdaStyle and I guess when I buy one I expect it to be perfect or at least fit like it does in the picture and fit the size it was mean to fit.  I’m realizing this is not so.  I thought buying it would cut down on the drafting work significantly, but it looks like it’ll take just as long as if I’d drafted it myself.  Disappointed about that, but I could really use a good pair of comfy pants that don’t have holes in the knees and don’t cut off my belly circulation so maybe I should get to work and stop whining about it.  Pants are a touchy subject with me nowdays.  I really can’t stand maternity pants.  I don’t care for the panel ones, I just don’t like any pressure on my belly, and my under belly ones are all a little big so they keep falling down and look so frumpy in the bum….. so I resort to stretchy pants, but all the respectable pairs I have are getting too snug on my buns and belly to be socially acceptable so I resort to the holey ones.  daily.  Yes I am in need of a good/must be comfy pair of pants.

That completes the end of my pant woes.  I’m sure every other pregnant girl can sympathize.

Update

Here are the latest sewing room pictures.  It’s been done for a while now, but with a daily/hourly crafter like Sadie it’s hard to find it clean enough to take a picture.  I’ve been going to the thrift store looking for fun organization and other unique little decorating pieces, but until then this is how it stands.  Sadie pretty much lives in this room.  The first thing she does when she wakes up before school is go work in the craft room.  So far she’s gotten far more use out of it than I have.

Thanksgiving

Long overdue I know, but I promised pictures to family members so here they are finally!  Thanksgiving with the Donohues in Midway, Ut in picture form.

Christmas sweaters on Thanksgiving, a Donohue family tradition…..well Ryan and I’s tradition anyway.

we took all the kiddos on a walk to 7-11 while awaiting Thanksgiving dinner.  It was a nice 2 mile stroll with a bunch of wandering kids.  One of the highlights for me.

It was a very memorable week for all.  It’s so fun to get all the kids together in one house.

Simply the best

That’s my Ryan for you.  He really is the best for so many reasons…. here are just a few…..He does all the undesirables I don’t want to do (changing light bulbs, smoke alarm batteries, unclogging drains) as well as the things I don’t want to learn how to do (all things computer related even as silly as loading songs on the ipod), he does all the manly stuff-- anything car related, home improvement, yard etc…. I rely on him for so many things and am so glad I don’t even have to think about doing them myself or making sure they’re done.  I love it.  One of the things I love about him is he’s so conscientious and doesn’t trust anyone more than himself so if he doesn’t know how to do something he’ll learn how.  Another thing he does that I appreciate so much is he always gets really thoughtful gifts.  He gave me one of the best most thoughtful early Christmas presents this year.  My very own dress form!  It’s beautiful isn’t it?  Once this belly is gone I can adjust it to all of my own dimensions to make it a perfect fit for making clothes.  How awesome is that!

Ryan you rock!

A few years ago my sister Annie and I made a form out of duct tape that was a mold of my torso.  A literal mold of my body.  She wrapped me in duct tape then cut me out of it and taped it back to together then stuffed it with stuffing……I threw it out last week as soon as I got my fancy new one, I wish I’d gotten a picture of it for memories sake.

Here’s how my sewing room stands for now.  There is still a bit to do, but right now it’s functional and all the hard stuff is complete so I am more than happy.

The white table with my sewing machine is temporary, we want to do two tables on either side of the white hutch one for the sewing machine one for the serger.  We still need to cut down at least two of the tall chairs so they’re regular height and can be used at my sewing tables and then I need to find fabric to recover the seats.  The lighting is pretty bad so we also need to have a ceiling light installed.  Then it’s just more decorating and such.

Flooring = completion

We did it!  We finished it it one day.  And when I “we” of course I mean Ryan.  One long day.  And luckily there were no big problems, it was relatively easy, but tedious going and Ryan will probably not be able to stand up straight for a week.  I’m pretty convinced he can do anything.  He’s my superman.
