its national day today
another celebration
of Singapore's
independence
of our 39 years
in the history of the world

you know
there are alot of these
things
going around
about nepotism
about one party rule
about a sham democracy in Singapore
about a nanny state
and a republic governed in the shadows
by Mr Lee Kuan Yew
so many theories
so many concepts

and..
there are alot of
rebels
proponents of a revolution of sorts
staunch supporters of any opposition party
condemners of the PAP
but just a question here
no offence meant
whats the alternative?
there are SO many flaws in Singapore
but whats the alternative here?
an absolute democracy?
where theres a viable opposition?
where the PAP comes in and out of control?

i mean
firstly
we all cant deny
that we wont be where we are
educated as we are
fed as we are
wealthy as we are
without the current party
personally
i feel
people demand too much of the government
they demand FOC
they demand a voice in society
they demand a reduction in censorship
and hey
i wouldnt mind that too

but who REALLY knows whats going on behind the scenes?
who TRULY understands whats happening in that cabinet?
who FULLY comprehends the decisions and events that affect policies?
are we in any position to say so?
i say no
none of us
can really understand
government
until we;re there
until we're the people in charge
until we're the decision makers
maybe then
can we really say for sure
that the PAP is nepotistic
that Singapore is a nanny state
OR
that the governments control
of its citizens
is really justified
i mean
its all well and fine for us
couch commentators
to talk about all these issues
but do we really know it?
do we understand the consequences
of our 'demands'?
im thinking
its a big no
and perhaps
of course i cant say for sure
but perhaps
none of us will be willing to make the sacrifice
when or if
we do find out
the consequences
of 'righting the wrongs'
in our homeland
Singapore ;)

on another note
i have been hooked
on alvaro sanchezs versions
of our national day songs
he's just brilliant
i mean
he performed all the songs
that our guit ensemble did
and he pretty much outdid them by a mile
ONE person
sounded like twice the size of the ensem
amazing.
just amazing
such talent
put to such good use
i wonder how he does it...

ah well
had soccer today
