Numero Uno

Mr. Jake turned one on August 28th!
This past year has been a whirlwind.  I still feel like I'm just getting the hang of this three kids thing, but at the same time I can hardly remember what life was like without Jake in it.  He just fits so perfectly.

Jake, at age one, is irresistible.
Sure he's into everything.  Yes, he empties cupboards, tries his hardest to climb into the fireplace, destroys lego creations, and almost falls down the stairs on a daily basis...but he is adorable.

He's finally got teeth.  Three goofy crooked teeth.

He walks everywhere and has been walking for a month.

He is a dancer.  He hears a beat and he's groovin'.  He especially loves to rock out to the thumping of our washing machine and of course Carly Rae's Call Me Maybe

Jake's favorite words include: Dad, Dad, and Dad.
No Mama...yet.

He loves dogs.  He loves his brothers.
He loves his blankets.  And still loves to snuggle in the morning.

We also found out that Jake really, really loves chocolate cake.

Happy, happy 1st birthday to our sweet Jake.
We can't get enough of you!

It's official now

My Sam is now six and proud of it.  He wears a new birthday watch everywhere he goes now, and I feel like that little Timex makes him look all grown up.

He opened some more birthday Legos  first thing Sunday morning and couldn't have been happier...

Max, on the other hand, was still wondering where his birthday presents were...

Thankfully, Sam was quick to share with his little bro and life was good again.

Max is reaping the benefits of Sam going to kindergarten though... he gets the Legos all to himself for those 3 hours each morning that Sam is gone.  It works out perfectly!

Oh Sam, you are so good.  You are so happy, so kind, and so thoughtful.  You are a thinker and love to ask questions.  You are sensitive.  You can tell when I am having a bad day and like to leave me notes and drawings to cheer me up.  You are such a wonderful example to your little brothers.  They both follow you everywhere and try their hardest to keep up.  And you know what I love?  I love that you always include them.  You just do.  You let Max use your favorite toys.  You let him join in the fun when you have friends over.  You make him feel so cool.  And little Jake adores you.  You are always on the look out for him and help with him more than you know.  I adore you, Sam.  You are one of my favorite friends.  Happy 6th birthday, sweet man.

This is going to be a good year.  I can just feel it.

Six...almost

I have an almost six year old!
How can that be?

Sam's big birthday isn't actually until the 26th, but we had a crazy Lego party this weekend to celebrate with his buddies.  It was so fun!  I really think that 5 and 6 year olds are at just the right ages for birthday parties.  They love ALL games, they can actually follow the rules, and they get excited about anything and everything.  Perfect!

Sam is a Lego fanatic these days, so a Lego party it was...

Thanks to my crafty sis, Kelsey, I was able to make my boys some cute Lego shirts to wear for the party.  Max loved his shirt, until just before the party started.  He then decided that his batman costume was more appropriate.  So there you go...

Sam and Max helped with a little Lego decorating...

Pin the head on the Lego man was a huge success!  I was so surprised how much the boys loved this game.  They took the job of decorating their Lego heads very seriously.

Our very homemade Lego pinata.

We sent the boys on a little treasure hunt.  This was a huge hit.  Huge!  All of these little party goers were so excited to show off their reading skills and took turns reading the clues to each other.

Their treasure?
Mini Lego ships, of course!

This was the best activity of the party.  The boys all SAT QUIETLY for at least 20 MINUTES and worked on putting their ships together.  They were pretty independent for the most part.  It was awesome.

Here are the Lego party goers!
(minus Max...who was in the other room trying to understand why no one brought presents for him!)

Sam felt so loved and had a great time at his party.  I feel so lucky that he has such fun, great friends!
Sam loves his friends.  He talks about them constantly, worries about them, and has told me on several occassions that he wishes his friends could be his brothers too.

Happy (almost) 6th birthday, to my favorite Sam ever.
