I Am Thankful For . . .

I AM THANKFUL FOR...
By Nancie J. Carmody
...the mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends .

...the piles of laundry and ironing because it means my loved ones are nearby.

...the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat.

...my huge heating bill because if means I am warm.

...a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing
because it means I have a home.

…the taxes I pay because it means that I'm employed.

…all the complaining I hear about our government because it means we have freedom of speech.

...my shadow who watches me work because it means I am out in the sunshine.

... the lady behind me in church who sings off key because it means that I can hear.

...the spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking .

... weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been productive .

...the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means that I'm alive!

I Heard the Rain

When I went to have my hearing aids adjusted I mentioned to the receptionist that I had heard birds. She said wait until you hear the rain. Then she told me about a patient that had just gotten her new hearing aids and walked outside. She came back in crying and told the receptionist that she had just heard the sound of rain for the first time in years. She was so happy.

I woke up this morning and thought that Curt was making soft strange noises in his sleep and was dreaming, when I realized that is was thunder. I laid there in bed and watched the light show through the window in our bedroom. I got up and put in my new ears and went to our computer room and listened to the rain & hail on the aluminum roof then I went in the front room and opened the front door and listened to the sound of the rain on the driveway.

It is surprising how we take things so much for granted. This is a such a beautiful world we live in with wonderful sounds.
