Home and back again!

Well, isnce the last time I wrote we have gone home and back to the hospital again. Although, right now we are home. We went home Sat. night (Dec. 20) but still needed to keep track of glucose levels at home. That night it was in the 400s which was what was keeping at the hospital longer anyway. We called the doctor and he said to check in the morning and if either the one before breakfast or the one two hours after was over 200 we should call back. His first one was fine but the second one was 210. So we called and they wanted us back. We left and got the hospital again, after dropping Kyle off at my sisters first, at 3:30pm. Well, they told us tha Landon has diabetes. Actually he has a 5% chance of not having it but all things considered he basically has it and Dirk and I underwent diabetes teaching for two days before they would send us home. Not quite two days becasue we went in on Sunday afternoon and got to go home Monday night, we left at about 7:30pm. Normally it takes a little while longer to learn everything but because Landon is too young to teach we were able to go at a faster pace. So they basically taught us the survival skills of diabetes so we would be fine at home with Landon. We will be pricking his finger 4-5 times a day and giving him insulin 4-5 times a day. Before we left the hospital Dirk and I had to be able to give him the shots, and give each other one as well; just to know what they felt like. So basically Landons pancreas (sp) isn't working too well. The cells that are supposed to be making insulin are not or most of them have been destroyed. We knoe that not all of them are because he doesn't need too much insulin, in fact he needs very little just frequently. The doctor said that diabetes is a gradual disease and usually is just turned on to actually needed insulin by something. So in Landons case, apendasitis (sp). He also said, which is a comfort to Dirk and I, that is nothing we did or could have prevented. Even if his apendix did not burst it would have been turned on by a cold or the flu or something else like it. Right now at home his is on insulin for diabetes and antibiotics for hi apendasitis (sp). I think the major challenge right now is remembering all of his insulin and medicine times. Landon is doing well, though not enjoying being pricked and poked 4-5 times a day. Soon he will get used it and it will just be a daily occurance. He is doing well with his antibiotics and we have an appointment next week to get out his PICC line if everything is going well and we will set up the surgery date. We only have to antibiotics until next Tuesday, soon no more 3am doses. YAY! I know I said I would post picture, and I will, but it is 4:30 in the morning so I will do it later. LAndon's antibiotic has to run for thirty minutes so we are up for a little bit in the night. I just decided to take that opportunity and give everyone an update. Well, I will continue with updates and hopefully my next post will have pictures. Love to you all and thank you for your prayers and love and support!

No Fun! Hospitals, Yuck!

Okay, I will try and post pictures when I get home, but right now I am at Primary Children's medical Center with Landon. We took him to McKay Dee ER Friday night for dehydration. Basically he had been throwing up and not keeping anything down, he hadn't gone to the bathroom for about 24 hours. And he was complaining of his stomach hurting-all of which started on Wed. they admitted him that night to the hosptial where they started doing all kinds of tests. they thought he may have rota virus, food poisoning, gastroenteritis, appendisitis (sp), it could be a series of things. All the tests came back negative more than once. They did x-rays, a CT scan, and still nothing was determined. His stomach was very and stil is, didened (sp) basically really swollen, in fact you can barely make out his bellybutton. Well, Monday morning he was transfered down to Primary Children's. They did another scan and saw that his apendix had burst, thus the swelling. His stomach is full of infection and gunk, so they are going to try all heal as much as they can first, and then remove it in a month or two. I have time to write this right now because they are putting in a PICC line, and luckly I am not supposed to be there when they do. I am very glad because i don't know how much more I can handle watching when I know it hurts. They did sedate him first though, I am very glad. i stayed there for that part. Anyway, the reason they are going to heal as much as they can before the operate is so they don't have to cut out part of his apendix. His aapendix is so infected that there is no where to cut it without taking some of his colon. If there was an emergency and they had to operate they could but if they can wait there will be a better chance of less damage on their part. Now that he has his PICC line they will take our his IV and use the line for the iV fluid and antibiotics. We will be here until at least Thursday, but I don't htink we will go home until Friday. Dirk stayed home from work on Mon. to come down to Primary Children's with me, but he is going to try and go to work the rest of the week while my mom has Kyle. if for some reason Kyle isn't doing well up at the house and wants his family then Dirk will stay home with him. That is all that is going on right now, and I will try to give an update later. He is doing well, in fact he doesn't seem to be in as much pain as he should be. he is such a trooper. Bye for now.

Fun Times!

So Sara and Riley, Dirk's sister and family, came out for Thanksgiving! We went to the Salt Lake temple and spent the day down there and then went o Riley's sister's house in Willard and played games. Also I, for the first time ever, watched the music video of Thriller! It was definitely interesting. As soon as I told Riley I hadn't seen it, he made sure that I would get the chance. In my defence it did come out before I was born! It was great fun! We can't wait until we can all get together again. Hopefully next summer at there place. Maybe Jason and Sarah can come too! Well, here are some pics! Oh yeah Happy Birthday Anna! Big 17!

Cute Thanksgiving cookies!

So today Tonya my visiting teaching companion, came over and we made cookies for the sisters we visit teach. But not jucst any cookies, Super cute Thanksgiving cookies. Aren't they adorable?! All you need are the shortbread striped cookies, melted choc. chips, marshmallows, candy corns, and mini candy bars. Oh and some yellow icing. They are not hard so if anyone wants to make them and has some questions let me know. Not only are they adorable they are soooo good! Luckily we are giving most of them away so I had to stop at one. They are, if you can't tell, a pilgrims hat and a turkey.

Sorry!

Man, I didn't realize how hard it would be to make out this video. Not only that, but I recorded it sideways so is all the harder to see. Sorry everybody! Basically it is Landon trying to do Kung Fu. If I can get a better video I will post it.

THE Kung Fu Master!

So I know I just posted today, which was late considering that Halloween was forever ago, but this was soooo funny! We rented Kung Fu Panda on Saturday and Landon and I watched it together today. When the credits came on this is what he did!

Question, thoughout the whole movie because it is about fighting Landon would say things like, he's a good fighter or he's a good killer. What should I say to that? Should I just not let him watch this movie again or any others like it? What he did after the movie was funny, but I don't want him to think that killing is good. I told him that they weren't killing them but that he was just knocking him out so he could take him to jail. Anyway does anyone have any good ideas to deal with this kind of stuff? Thanks!

Halloween!

Costumes! Landon was a Gorilla and Kyle was the Banana!

Here we are carving and painting pumpkins! (Sorry I forgot to rotate the pictures)

The PUNKINAZE!

So for Landon'r Preschool we took a fieldtrip to the Punkinaze! We went through the maze, but it didn't last very long because Landon picked all the right ways. Then we took some cute pictures. They have these two huge slides; probably 15-20ft high. So we slid down those for awhile. Although, Landon biffed it at the bottom when he went by himself so he wouldn't go by himself after that. Kyle liked it the first two times, but tensed up real bad the thrid so we stopped. Then they played some cute little games. Afterwhich they dug through the corn bin for hidden candy. It was fun! Especially because his teacher paid for everyone. It is usually $6.00 a person, 3 and under free. If you would like to see there website it is http://www.punkinaze.blogspot.com/.
