This Is Mario Madness

All of you know how I like to procrastinate when it comes to updating my almost-dead-if-not-for-the-once-in-a-blue-moon-entry blog. But today while scrolling through my Facebook, what I do at this time everyday, I came upon this link. It brought me to You Tube where I saw this!

To all my drummer friends who happen to be reading this, tell me you are NOT impressed by this. Enjoy nonetheless. I wish I could play like him though. Double pads, an unachievable dream?

Meet Ah Choi

This is Ah Choi. My neighbour's Chow Chow. He's 4 years old and extremely adorable! After 3 months of moving into our new house, we finally spoke to our neighbour. LoL I didn't get his name though. He migrated from Hong Kong in the 1980s and has moved into his current house since then.

He told us that the owner of our house is a cardiologist. Both him and his wife are doctors and had bought this house (our house) as an investment. :) Wow!

Anyways, Ah Choi responds to Cantonese commands. How cool is that?

Jason Mraz Live In Sydney

I don't even want to bother saying "Hi guys, I'm back!" because I lost count of how many times I've said that only to disappear for the next few months. So I'm gonna blog, when I want to blog. Period.

I'll be sitting for an exam in a few days but this entry must be made. I finally got to meet him in person! Yes, Jason Mraz! The concert that I've been dying to go for. I was finally there yesterday night with Kevin Kang and some other vetmates from Year 4! I have been looking forward to this day for months. I can't actually remember when I started listening to his songs. It's probably middle of last year when Michelle introduced his songs to me. I bought his "We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things" album and BOOM! I got hooked instantly. I went on to buy his earlier albums and the rest is history.

Anyhow, Kevin and I arrived early yesterday. Ticket says that it starts at 7.15pm but we were there by 6pm. And the line just to get into the arena was already damn long!

This was taken from where I was when we were in the queue. The entrance of the concert veue was nowhere near where we were. Probably another 500m away?

After 1.5 hours, we finally saw the entrance. People were just piling up near the entrance. I wasn't expecting such a big crowd but believe me, it was chaos in an orderly fashion. Thanks to the bouncer. So here it is, we were at Hordern Pavilion, Sydney.

First stop before we went to the stage was the merchandise counter. More people, more queue, more squeezing. Argh! But everyone wanted to grab a piece of Jason Mraz, so how can I not join in. I ended up buying Randy a T-Shirt since he couldn't join me that night. Oh by the way, those high school girls...they are crazy. MAD! Like possessed!!

The opening act. Some random band who pretty much did an okay job. And they requested for applause. Bein the nice audiece that we were, we gave them what they were after. *applause*

This was how far I was within the mosh pit, away from the stage. In a few moments, through my mosh pit squeezing skills, I would be metres away from the stage. Where is Jason Mraz? It's already 8.45pm!

There he is! Right before my eyes! Breathing the same air as I was! Geez I feel like I'm in high school again! (I somehow sounded gay saying that, okay I take that back!)

And that's Toca! Jason Mraz's favourite side-kick. He's awesome! He makes Jason Mraz look good!

Pardon the photo quality, I was multi tasking. Dancing, singing, squeezing, enjoying and taking photos. So you can imagine.

Just another shot.

Then he brought on his very good friend by the ame of (what's his name again?) and did a duet. His friend can sing...not bad at all.

He owns the limelight.

Jason Mraz is a lyrical king but he's never known for his dancing. Which explains the clumsiness when he attempted to..."dance?".

This was when he sang "Butterfly". His friend was in the background doing hulla-hoops!

Thanking the fans for a fantastic night out.

The 30-second bow from the entire band.

The dream team, led by captain Mraz.

As the man left the building...till we meet again brother!

The one thing that Australians do really fast is...exiting the building after a concert. The venue was packed to capacity but it was empty within minutes after the last song. Like they were dying to get home or something. LoL

I thought I should just take a quick photo with Kevin to verify that we WERE truly at the concert!

Out came a high school girl posing her butt in front of us. Well...free shot...why not? I did mention that the high school girls were lunatics didn't I? There you go, proof!

The T-shirt I got for Randy. "Hope you like it bro!"

It was truly a blast! I had an awesome night and I look forward to hisnext concert already. But first, he's got to come up with more albums.

They say a picture paint a thousand words. I say it's true but...a video paint a million words! So why not watch some videos instead? It took great pains to upload these videos with my house's pathetic internet connection so guys, do appreciate it as I bring you back to last night, inside Hordern Pavilion.

"Make It Mine"

"Love For A Child"

"Live High"

"Lucky"

"A Beautiful Mess"

"I'm Yours" ---> A MUST WATCH!!

Well, I hope you had a great time reading this entry especially if you're a JM fan like me. I will be going to Keane's concert tomorrow as well so if you want apiece of what I will be experiencing, stay tuned folks. Thanks for reading. Later.

Disturbed Habitat

The house is finally beginning to take shape. With the TV and microwave oven put in place, the house seems more complete now. We even watched a movie together last night just to have a "feel" of the fact that we finally have our own home theatre system. Oh and everybody has been cooking ever since. Something that most of us cannot be bothered to do when we were living in UniLodge last year.

We spent almost the entire day yesterday in the backyard trying to mow the lawn. I mean, seriously I think we did a pretty good job. Kaartheg and I mowed half the lawn each. Gen and Sherissa raked all the loose grass and bagged them up. I think so far, we've collected one green bin full of grass clippings and 5 bags full of weeds and branches from the huge tree which I trimmed off.

Speaking of that tree, I feel really bad up till now. The tree was growing way too fast. On its front, it was growing to much that our clothes were brushing against its branches. So I had to trim them. On its sides, it's growing so fast that part of the tree is in our neighbours' houses. So I had to trim it too. So there I was, trimming trimming trimming and then POOF!! 3 gorgeous birds flew out from the canopy of the tree and they flew away like they were in some kind of shock or something. Then uppon a closer look, we found a nest. And on the nest were remains of egg shells. I destroyed their home :(

My housemates think that they won't fly back there again because they know that it isn't safe and that there are people disturbing them. But nonetheless, I left the nest alone. I hope they fly back. *HaizzzZZZzzzZZZ*

Anyways, part one is done. Today we're going to conquer the front yard. The grass is growing too rapidly. Argh! But believe me, because of the size of our backyard, it's really really good workout. I can feel the aches and sores n my arms and legs now. AND IT'S NOT BECAUSE I AM OLD! DAMMIT! You come and try lah!

Okay lah, time for breakfast and a little bit of studies before heaing for the front yard. This time, I'll be careful not to destroy anyone's home unnecessarily.

Where Am I?

It's been 72 hours since I last stepped out of this house. If you have watched Australian TV before, you would have heard of the show called "Big Brother". It's about a group of youngsters living together in a house. It starts off with about 20 of them and slowly, one person gets evicted each week. It's all about strategy and lts of back stabbing. The last person left in the house, usually about a month or two later, will get the one million dollar prized money. 1-2 months in a house without heading out! He/She deserves the money.

As I put it to Tanja over the phone yesterday, "I'm like the winner of Big Brother, still stuck in the house with no money to claim!". Anyway, as the title speaks, I don't have a clue that I am in Australia right now. Why? You see, my life for the past 72 hours basically revolves around cooking, bathing, studying, internet and watching a little bit of Singaporean Channel 8 drama. More or less the things I used to do back in Singapore. I have no interactions with people, I don't see any cauccasions, I don't hear Aussie accents cos' there are no radio and TV in the house yet. And only once in a while do I get reminded that I am in Australia when a noisy neighbour walks by and speaks at the top of his/her lungs. Then I'll hear words like "Yeah no worries", "See ya later", "How's it going mate?" etc

I just wish I have more time with Ning over the phone. She's rather busy these days. Entertaining friends, her never ending flights...

Castaway

Back in 2000, there was a movie called "Castaway". If you haven't watched it, go watch it. Then you'll understand exactly how I'm feeling now. Hi everyone, in case you've forgotten, I'm Ryan. 3 months of holidays in Singapore zoomed past like a speeding bullet train. Here I am once again, back in sad Sydney.

Because of certain reasons, Ihave to be back here in Sydney earlier than all my housemates. This house, brand new house, quiet...dark...no TV...no radio... When night falls, it feels like the forests in Brunei where I used to live in when I was in the army. You have no idea how this feels like. That's why, like I said, go watch "Castaway". In the movie, Tom Hanks found a volleyball and made it his best friend. He even named it Wilson and he spoke to it throughout his 4 year stay on that island. I'm in search of MY "Wilson" and trust me, I WILL start speaking to it soon.

My brother had this exact experience once upon a time when he had to live alone in our house in JB (Johor Bahru) for 3 long months due to some citizenship issues. I wonder how he overcame that 90 days. To soome extent, I give him my utmost respect!

It's not the days that matter, rather it's the night that kills me. When the Sun sets, and when the silence begins to sting your ears drums...you feel like yelling out loud. AAAARRRRGGGHH!!!!! Besides a few minutes of brief phone calls with Ning each day, I hardly ever use my voicebox. Today is only Day 2...7 more days to go. How am I going to survive?

Hey if you're a famous director reading this somewhere on this planet, call me at +61432424187. I'm in Sydney Australia and I volunteer to star in "Castaway 2" free of charge. Yes, you heard me. Call me! NOW!!!
