Is your $5.00 a day Iced Coffee addiction causing problems in your marriage? My husband, aka
Mr.Fitness, was not too thrilled about me spending money on the 'fat drinks', as he refers to them. So, in an effort to stop, I only would buy them on Mondays or Fridays. I had to have something to make myself look forward to Mondays and then something to celebrate the week being over!
I recently came across The Pioneer Woman's recipe for
The Perfect Iced Coffee and thought I would give it a try, if I ended up not liking it, at least I did not spend very much money.
The recipe makes 2 gallons of coffee, which is a lot but with my calculations, based on using 8ozs of coffee in your drinks, you are able to make about 32 servings and you save just shy of $160 and about 2 hours of your time by not waiting in line!
I added caramel syrup and non-fat milk (and just a little sweetened condensed milk) and the drink tastes even better than my favorite coffee shop!
Ingredients
- 1 pound Ground Coffee (good, Rich Roast)
- 8 quarts Cold Water
- Milk (healthy Splash Per Serving)
- Note: Can Use Skim Milk, 2% Milk, Whole Milk, Sugar, Artificial Sweeteners, Sweetened Condensed MIlk, Syrups...adapt To Your Liking!
Preparation Instructions
(Adapted from Imbibe Magazine by The Pioneer Woman)
In a large container, mix ground coffee with water. Cover and allow to sit at room temperature eight hours or overnight.
Line a fine mesh strainer with cheesecloth and set over a pitcher or other container. Pour coffee/water mixture through the strainer, allowing all liquid to run through. Discard grounds. ***a coffee filter works in place of cheesecloth***
Place coffee liquid in the fridge and allow to cool. Use as needed.
To make iced coffee, pack a glass full of ice cubes. Fill glass 2/3 full with coffee liquid. Add healthy splash of milk. Add 1 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk (can use plain sugar instead), flavored sugar free coffee syrup, and stir to combine. Taste and adjust milk and/or sweetened condensed milk as needed.
