Dress Tips That Slim Big Hips

Pants
Shopping for trousers can be tricky if you have curvy hips, but when you know what style flatters your figure, finding a properly-fitting pair is a cinch:
- Look for flat-front pants with straight legs. These styles are best because they don't bulk up the hip area with extra fabric from the pleating. Straight legs also balance out a heavy bottom by visually slimming wide hips.
- Steer clear of high-waisted, tapered pants which will emphasize the pear shape. If you love skinny-leg pants, teaming with a tunic top will help disguise big hips.
- Your most flattering jean is the boot-cut which will help balance out the bottom half of your body. To further shave off pounds, pick a pair in a darker wash such as indigo or black.

Skirts
Skirts, in general, are more forgiving than trousers, but you still need to factor in these options when shopping for the most flattering style:
- A-line skirts are kind to the hips because they skim over your curves. The trick is to choose one that is not too flared, otherwise it might throw your proportion off-balance.
- Knee-lengths are universally-flattering. If you have thick calves, stay away from skirts that end at the calf.
- Avoid styles that cling to your hips, such as bias-cut or tight pencil skirts. Also steer clear of excessive detailings such as pockets and pleatings which will add even more bulk.
- Other good choices include wrap skirts and softly-draped styles. Pair with heels to look taller instantly.

Dresses
What do dresses have in common with curvy hips? Both are synonymous with femininity. That's why you'll look super sexy in these:
- Halter, toga or strapless frocks that expose your shoulders flaunt your slender upper torso and decolletage.
- Make sure there is ample room around the hip area. Your best bet is to look for styles that fit snugly around the bust and waist, then flares slightly at the bottom, such as empire waist styles.
- Go for dresses with pleats, beading or other embellisments on the top. Areas around the waist and hips should be clear of detailings.
