Kami's program and new hobby

Image
Kami had her first grade music program the other day and her classroom teacher piggybacked on that and had a classroom peotry reading. They had some really cute peoms that as a class they read to us. I wasn't able to video record ti but I did get an audio recording and I will try to post it here. After the poetry reading they had the music program and Kami did a great job. No loud yelling inappropriate things at us. Small simple waves when it was the right time. I know we aer the boring family. They ended by ding the hockey pockey in the aisle and Kami wore her perfect dress for that. In one picture you can tell she is swinging it since it is blurry but everything else isn't. I also started a new hobby. Well new for me. I found these dolls on line and they were just to cute not to make them. They are called Waldorf dolls. The faces are sculpted and then covered and they turn out adorable. I whipped one up last night just to try it out and I am thinking I may make a

I just may...

I was reading this blog a few months back, like around Christmas, and the blog was talking about how they signed a homemade Christmas pact. Essentially, they were not going to buy into the whole materialistic mentality of Christmas and all gifts given that year were going to be homemade. It wasn't about saving money and trust me I really think it has gotten more expensive to make gifts than to buy them, but it was more about putting the effort into giving something that really came from the heart, mix in with the blood, sweat and tears and if you have ever seen me sew you would believe that blood is involved. Of course by time I read that blog it was way to close to Christmas for me to pull it off effectively. So I went almost 1/2 and 1/2. 1/2 homemade and 1/2 store bought. But as I am working on my stuff for a possible craft bazaar in the fall I am starting to think I may want to do something like that. Then I can take my time over the summer and really put some love into the Chri

Horse. I decided to give a go at amigurumi. Basically it is a tight crochet that is then sewed together to make stuffed animals, etc. In the past I haven't done well with it in that my stitches are not consistent enough and it gets lopsided. But well time for a retry. I started with a heart that I thought looked simple enough and it was, however, it doesn't look as cute in person as it does in the picture. I have had it called a butt, a pair of boobs and my brother hinted it looked like something I should hang from the trailer hitch on my truck. I know we have all seen them. Well, I didn't let that stop me and I went ahead and tried the next pattern that I wanted to try. It actually turned out really cute and Kami named it Creamy. It is a purse of sorts. Not really big enough to carry much in but it does look real cute when Kami puts her cowgirl boots on and carries this. Chessica and the boys were down this weekend. We stopped at Saturday market here in town and they were

Man Stealing Beignets!!!!

That is what we made this weekend. Kami was watching The Princess and the Frog and she asked what beignets were so we made beignets. They were rather simple to make and oh so good. I stuffed myself on them. The best part was that we decided to rewatch the movie while gorging ourselves on the beignets. Kami was the literal type. As I was rolling out the dough and cutting them into squares she kept saying, "But mom they are suppose to be oval. They are oval on the movie." I kept telling her they would puff up in the oil. She was VERY happy to see that they did. Then she refused to eat them without the honey on top. Because in the movie they put honey on top. While the rest of us were very happy with the powder sugar. We red boxed the movie but I am thinking we may have to go out and buy it since the girls LOVE it so much.
