fun at the fall shows

we've got a habit that we cannot break. we love concerts and going to hear live music. we usually see three good bands in one year but this fall has been incredibly packed with good music. most of the following pics are taken with devin's iphone and, therefore, poor quality but the memories are fun nonetheless.

jonsi. if you look close you can see his head-dress he wore during the encore. so creative and artistic. he and his band were absolutely amazing. one of the best shows i've ever seen. honestly, top five. his voice is like an angel, pure and sweet, sent directly from heaven. they rocked. loved the video and artistic value it added to the show. devin and i went with my brother and sister-in-law, which was fun to share that night with them.

band of horses. great sound. played a nice long set. one of the greatest parts of the show was that the bass player looked just like kip from napolean dynamite. seriously, mustache and everything.

phoenix. this concert was a great surprise because i just thought it would be an okay show. was i wrong. i loved, loved, loved it. great show, awesome technical stuff with staging, and the energy was visceral.

built to spill. an oldie but a goodie. we love this band and had a ton of fun being up at the front. man can these guys rock. we also had fun seeing andres and his friends. look at devin with doug, cute.

i love doug martsch's style. classic t-shirt and blue slacks, eh? too bad you can't see the new balance.

we also get to see my favorite, favorite musician play on monday. sufjan stevens. he's dreamy and i love me some banjo. hopefully we'll get some good pics at that show.

finally, this is just a random but necessary picture for this post. why not? happy halloween everybody!

The Large Sized Apple

dev and i had some fun in the "big apple", as they say. really, we don't travel so much, it's just what we blog about.

we got to go to this show which starred sean hayes, kristin chenoweth, and molly shannon. hilarious.

we took a great dance class at paul taylor, probably my favorite.

devin and i traveled to lady liberty for his first trip. she's kind of ugly, truth be told, but unbelievably touching and patriotic.

we took a stroll through central park and ended up at the metropolitan museum of art.

isn't this bamboo structure/piece of art absolutely amazing?

we went to some great shows. i was able to see "chicago" for the first time (not pictured) and we also went to a japanese dance concert, "sankai juku: tobari - as if in an exhaustible flux," which was amazing and totally different from anything i've ever seen (also not pictured). then we went to the classic "wicked" and "billy elliot."

30 rockefeller plaza was fun. i wish we had spotted kenneth, he's cute. fun ice-skating going on.

the food was great on this trip. we had some authentic chinese food, great thai and some burgers from a local place called "vynl." we had fun here because of all the mosaics on the tables and in the bathrooms. each bathroom had a themed room after a music artist. they played the music from the musician in the restroom and they had huge mosaics of each artist. this is elvis. they also had cher, dolly parton (the pic is inappropriate for this blog), nelly and...well, i can't remember the fifth.

we got to do a fun and educational tour at radio city music hall. we were blown away at the costumes, architecture, and planning that went into that building. very art-deco and well preserved.

a real rockette! devin was so excited to pose for this pic.

we paid our respects at ground zero. it is amazing to see the progress they've made construction wise but there is still so much heartbreak at that location it is pretty heavy to visit. the new museum seems like it will be amazing. we got a little taste of what will be there and it will be a great memorial.

i love that this temple is just right in the middle of this busy intersection by the lincoln center. isn't it beautiful?

fun trip. we ran from sun up til sun down and loved every minute of it (well, mostly). new york is such a different city than salt lake. i'm so grateful we can do these trips while i'm still feeling well.

aloha

devin and i were able to visit the tropics again this year. we had just as much fun and we didn't want to come home.

so i told everyone this monk seal was dead. devin and i watched it for several minutes and the seal didn't move. when we went back to see it again, it moved. apparently monk seals like to just lay on the beach. too bad a biologist wasn't there to help us.

this is us with our two children. surprise!

we really, really love puka dogs. mango relish, jalepeno hot sauce, homemade buns...sounds disgusting but it is delicious.

cute family we went with.

this is named something much less cool than what my 2 year old niece called it. the "honking horn" or the "spouting corn."

nepali coastline.

polynesian cultural center.

turtle bay.

beautiful temple.

we had a blast. hawaii is stunning and so relaxing. we loved it!
