Jan, Jeannette and I flew to Austin to spend
a week with Paul and Janie.
We lovingly call their home the "Freestone Resort".
The weather was quite wet and cold the first
couple of days but gradually warmed up.
We spent lots of time enjoying delicious
home cooked meals, shopping, listening to and
discussing FOX news, as well as watching some
winter olympics games. We also enjoyed
looking out the windows and watching the
wildlife of deer, foxes, squirrels and birds.
We went to a place located near the Canyon Lake
recreation area which provided an evening's worth of
entertainment. It began with a "shoot-out".
Then we looked around at the trophy rooms and gift shop
(where we purchased a CD) and then finally mosied on
down to our reserved seats.
This picture shows the stage and the many
instruments the English Brothers played.
The English family cooked, served and even
cleaned up the dishes for us.

After our meal, the English Brothers came up
on the stage to entertain us with their singing, jokes
and yodeling. What a multi-talented group they are.

Here we are - finally waiting to hear the triangle
clang calling us to line up to be served a
Texas BBQ of brisket, beans, coleslaw,
applesauce, biscuit and spice cake.
It was worth waiting for.

On our way back from a shopping trip to Boerne,
we drove around and found the San Antonio Temple.
Although it is one of the smaller temples, it
has a beauty all of its own.

The San Antonio Temple has incredibly beautiful
stained glass windows all around the temple.

On our way to the airport, Paul and Janie took us to a
famous restaurant called "Salt Lick". It was located
in the the middle of nowhere. You have to know
where it is and believe me, people know where it is.
Salt Lick is an old, huge barn-like structure with
old corrals and trees surrounding it. The meal
prices were very reasonable and the food
servings were enormous.

Here we are waiting to eat our meal.
We actually ordered the "Senior Plate" with smaller portions
of turkey, sausage and ribs. A gigantic serving of potato salad
was scooped on top of coleslaw plus beans and bread.
We had our choice of regular BBQ sauce or spicy sauce
which are both tasty vinegar based sauces.
After the meal we continued to the airport for our
return trip to Phoenix. I purchase some Salt Lick
BBQ sauces at the the terminal to bring home. Yummy!

We had a wonderful visit and time together.
Paul and Janie have a beautful home and
their hospitality is bar-none.
