Hey everyone; how’s everything back home? :D Things here have been pretty much winding down; in the process of clearing my paperwork, taking “goodbye photos” and settling travel plans….
Yup! That’s right; I’m into my last week of work! Amazing how fast two and a half months have flown by…..So anyway, here’s what’s been going on the past 2 weeks…
New York!Ansen flew down from Canada on the 29th, so I took five days off and met him in New York. :D
29th, WednesdayWell, his flight was only due to arrive at 1030pm at night… so I had the whole day to myself! Set off from Wildwood at 9am in the morning. The long bus ride wasn’t as bad as one would imagine…. But once I reached New York, I was so freaked out!
Traveling alone in the New York subway whilst carrying a backpack and looking obviously swaku is not a good idea. Gosh, I was so…. Uh… “scared”. New Yorkers have a certain edgy-ness to them…. And honestly, sitting on the subway from the bus station to the hotel was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. Everyone was like staring at me! Ackz. And it didn’t help that this girl approached me for money in the bus station cos she’d been mugged and all her belongings had been stolen. K larh, sounds like a scam I know…. But she was like in tears and had the police report and everything…..
So anyway, the hotel wasn’t as bad I had pictured. For $99 a night, in Uptown West side Manhattan…. It really was quite a good deal. We shared a room… whish was actually split into two single rooms with a shared toilet. We each had our own TV, wardrobe, and even a fridge!
Once I got to the hotel, it started pouring! And I was still freaked out about the subway experience *sheepish* so I just stayed in the room…. Watched some TV and took a nap. :D
Finally ventured out of my room at 5ish n walked around from my place to times square….Took a loooooooonnnggg subway trip (an hour plus!) to the airport to pick him up…. Twasn’t as bad as the first time cos I wasn’t carrying as many things…. But twas later so the people on the train got creepier… *grimaces*
So anyway, met him in the airport…. Argh. His flight was delayed so stood around for 2 hours doing nothing! :D was all worth it when I finally saw him walk out of the gates….*grin* Took the shuttle bus back to the hotel, caught up with one another and finally concussed….
30th, ThursdayUs two lazy bums only woke up around 10ish…Decided to take things easy (as usual) and just go walk-walk…. Went to Columbus Circle to eat “pay-by-the-pound” food. Yummy Indian food….plus the works. Then next on the list was the World Trade Centre site, Little Italy, Wall Street and Chinatown.
Gosh. The WTC is just a HUGE whole in the ground! Walked past it a few times before realizing what it actually was….there weren’t any memorials around there yet so…. Wasn’t quite as impressive as I was expecting. Wall street…. Is simply that. A street! Haha shud’ve seen ansen’s face when he realized it was jus that small alley-way…. Haiyoh.
Little Italy is nice and quaint…. Filled with cafes and small knick-knack stores; really wish we had one more night to just sit there and chill. Wanna go and see the real italy so bad!
After walking the whole afternoon, we went back to our hotel to change and get ready to go Broadway! *whoohoo* I simply LOVE broadway and times square!
We watched Avenue Q…. totally rocks! :D It’s like…. Sesame Street….. for adults. ;). Pretty cool how they could address “touchy” issues cos they were using puppets as the main actors…. Sample of the songs would be…. “If you were gay, it’d be ok”….”sucks to be me”….”the internet is for porn”…… hahahha the show is damn hilarious! Love it!
1st, FridayOn Friday, true to our slackerselves, we didn’t do much again. We simply shopped!
We wenyt to Times Square and ate at Bubba Gumps! (Ya know? The restaurant Forrest and Bubba started in the show Forrest Gump…) Food was good…. But the portions were HUGE. Saw the biggest Toys ‘R’ Us…. Phwoah. Wanted to sit in the indoor ferris wheel but the queue was long n was kinda paiseh cos onli the lil kids were going on it.
I love times square! (have I mentioned that already? J ) we also went to the huge Hershey store, MTV store and so much more….. *grin* twas so nice jus walking along n enjoying the ambience… (of cors, the company rocked too!)
After Times Square, we went to Bloomingdales. Hmmm… twas kinda a disappointment though. Didn’t buy anything there…. But there was a HUGE Urban Outfitters opposite it…. Whoohoo, love that shop. Bought some tees…. And wanted to buy the “For good fortune, rub my tummy”-shirt for ansen but it was all sold out. :D
Rushed back to the hotel to meet a family friend after that…. Cos we were gonna spend the night with them. Went to the East Village and had fusion Thai food with their family…. :) twas nice; they’re good company. After dinner, went to walk in Soho and the Village bazaar-ish street. Drove back to Queens after that (where they stay) to spend the night….
Before we hit the bed though, we went to a Beer Garden! *whoohoo* twas SO cool! It’s like this HUGE fortress and once you get in….. it’s just a huge expanse of land full of benches and everyone drinking! Thank God managed to get in cos the bouncer knew a friend… (YES. At 19, I am STILL an underaged drinker in US. Sheesh.)
Really had a good time there…. Most amusing is how ansen was pulled into a beer game (the flipping the coin into the cup one…) :D Cos earlier he’d been telling them he doesn’t really drink… so they were trying their best to get him drunk.
By the time we got to their place; we were all so shagged we simply concussed.
2nd, SaturdayOn Saturday, we FINALLY set out to do something tourist-y….we went to see the Statue of Liberty! :D Hmmm…. Twas impressive I suppose, but smaller than I had imagined. Saw a glimpse of Ellis Island as well…. Hmmm, nothing much to describe though. I mean…. The statue of liberty is the statue of liberty right? :)
Went to meet our friends again after that…. Had dinner in a chinese restaurant in queens. ( I miss food from home! Hokkien mee! Sting ray! Prata! *sobz*)
Ate at a Ben and Jerry’s ice cream parlour after dinner then caught the 1145pm bus back to wildwood after that. Thought we’d end up sleeping thru the 5hr journey but we spent it talking through the night. *grin* So nice…. Reminded me so much of the night I first fell for him.
3rd, SundayMy dear finally saw Wildwood! Yup, really nothing impressive.
Brought him to go shopping in the factory outlets in Atlantic City! Gosh. We spent so much! Cos it was like the fourth of july weekend so there were shitload of sales… :D Happy day! We each spent like $100+….
Went back to wildwood in the evening and spent the night going on the rollercoasters and what-not. :) Finally could enjoy Morey’s Piers for what it’s worth. And it was really nice, sharing with my dear the place I’d been staying in for the past 2 months….
4th, MondayIndependence Day! And the last day I had with my dear….
Thought I’d be working the whole day, but my darling supervisor gave me the morning off. Spent it going for breakfast…. (yummy cream cheese bagels) and helping him pack his luggage. Twas half full when he arrived, and he could barely close it when he left!
Had to work in the evening though… which sucked. But twas all made better when he came to surprise me once the fireworks started. So, we did end up watching the fireworks together… thought perhaps, in the most romantic of settings… *grin*
5th,Tuesday6 am. He walked off towards the bus station. Haiz. :(
We had meant to not sleep the night before; but were so dead tired. :)
Those past 5 days were… well…. a bittersweet experience. Had the time of my life in New York with the guy I love…. Who could ask for more?
Sucks saying goodbye all over again though.
