Loving Kids are What it is All About!

Yesterday I received a phone call from Allen. Who then put Bryan on. Who then put Cathryn on. They were laughing and giggling and being siblingly. It was the first time that Allen and Bryan had been together in nearly three and a half years. It really made me feel wonderful to see them getting along so well and loving each other. Oh, how I wish I could have been there! Dianna wished it even more. She loves and misses them so much and is so lonely. She cried a lot. Yesterday I found out that Gail had broken her wrist. I had to go up to Broadway to help Addie with her Excavating business, then I went to take Gail to the pharmacy and grocery store. I felt so bad leaving her. Her wrist is quite swollen and I am sure it is painful. And she is due for a knee replacement in three weeks! I had asked MArtha to help me plant my pansies, since asking those in the house didn't work. She not only planted them, but added more to it. My front yard is so lovely! I am thrilled. Sh...

Yesterday

Yesterday I got to talk to Cathryn and Allen for a while. I got a phone call from Mom saying there was a problem with Dad's trust in Raleigh (I am the trustee) so I had to spend a couple of hours on the phone getting it straightened out. I applied for a couple of jobs online unenthusiastically. Then I went in to Cason's, but no one was there so I had to spend half an hour buying some new clothes for Dianna and me. I went back and taught Melissa how to make the backup computer work as the server in an emergency and brought her personal computer home for cleanup. It is a 98 machine, which I don't like to work on, but all she has. I haven't even found out what is all wrong yet because it is being stinky about going on the internet and letting me hit the web pages I want to hit. I suspect it has some page hijackers and other stuff. Okay, I know there are page hijackers, I just don't know what else there is. The virus checker is there, but disabled, so doesn...

Monday Monday

Seminary went well. Dianna made cookies last night and we had a treasure hunt to find the cookies. I took it easy yesterday. I think I am fighting the flu. Have aches and tired, but no fever. I don't get sick often, so I think I will be fine. But David was awake a lot last night and had a bad asthma attack at 2 in the morning. I havent been this tired since kids kept me up all night when they were little. I am excited. The Hochmeister/Landes gave me two old computers from her dad's estate. I really want to fix them up with Linux and give them to people who just want email and internet. I would really like to learn Linux. And Michael said he would help. Yeah, Michael! You make me happy! Bryan was supposed to come yesterday. He didn't. Sad day. I love Bryan. But I understand he is busy. I like weekends because I usually get to talk to my family. We got the Dish network installed Saturday and now we have BYU TV and can watch conference. DJ and I watched Young Wom...

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid

So I went to the chiropractor's office to see if we could run the backup system if the main one goes down. I had to crawl around to the back of the computer to take off the dongle to put it on the other computer. Not only did I bang my head, but I SCREWED UP MY WRIST! I was in BLINDING pain for the rest of the day. Thanks, TAT, for giving me a bottle of aspirin when I appeared on your door and I guess the lemon grass and sweet rose (?) oils helped. I was kind of numb. I am definitely much better today -- back inthe wristsguards at night -- but am really ticked that I am STILL so limited as to what I can and can't do!!!! Bummer.

Snowing

It is snowing! On March 21st! We are supposed to get one to three inches. Good. Because yesterday I taught seminary, worked on the chiropractic computers for a couple of hours, worked on the accountant's computers for a few hours, went to the hospital to visit a friend, hit the grocery store, cooked dinner, took Dianna to the Rescue Squad for a meeting, graded papers for David, and then put together my seminary lesson. I went to recorder practice on Sunday and reinjured the wrist, so I had to take a pretty strong pill which made the evening less productive. (But it was nice to feel better) Allen called with a sad story. Sounds like he is realizing how tough it is to be ADD. He is so responsible about it, but it is always embarrassing when it lets you down as far as missing dates and appointments. And tests. Oops. Being handicapped doesn't mean you give up, it means you have to try harder. Good luck Allen. I love you.

Just a Few What's-Going-Ons

Diane is sick so I have been teaching seminary and I love it because I really love the students. But I still hope they find out what is wrong with Diane because I am very worried about her. I went to recorder last night and played the big one and now even the good wrist hurts all the way to the elbow. But I will see the chiropractor today and hopefully he will fi xit. Shannon is a student at Mary Baldwin. She came over yesterday (Sunday) and finished up her costume for the Victorian Dance this Saturday. It was a lot of work for her but looks great. I had to ask Mary Beth to come help. It was nice having them here for the day, but I felt guilty running off to recorder practice! Gail and I are plotting to go on a September cruise in northern Europe. David has fallen in love with a house on a hill owned by a former ham.

Operations

So NOW Dianna is mad at ME because I MADE her get her wisdom teeth out and they were the main teeth she chewed with and only one hurt just a little bit sometimes and now they all hurt REAL BAD! Aagh! One of my Neofriends was scammed. I think there was a fake page to put in his password and he fell for it. Lost all 70,000 points he had been saving for a paintbrush. I told him to be happy it wasn't real money! I like this kid. He writes to me from time and time and can't believe I am almost 50! lol

No Scotland

Scotland fell through. *Sigh* But Gail and are going on a cruise in September in Northern Europe. We ARE EXCITED! Dianna is not doing well. In pain, won't stop bleeding. Won't take medicine for the pain. Doesn't want to bite on a teabag to stop the bleeding. Says it doesn't fit and it stings. It is stressful. She apparently isn't bleeding much. She won't drink or eat. And she spits a lot -- one of the two things the doctor said absolutely NOT to do. Still, I am sure this will all be over fairly soon. She is keeping ice on her cheeks, but I think a lot more than the 30 minutes at a time. Tonight is the luau for David's friends. We need to get the entire house clean. It isn't in too bad a shape, but doing it alone will be tough. I bought some pansies. Hope I can find someone to plant them. I love flowers around a house.

Friday News

Last night I dropped Dianna off at EMT class and then went to the church. Allison Larsen had called and invited me to institute. The Calhouns were there, BJ Hudson, Jackie Lambert, the Bradies, and the Larsens. Val Larsen taught and it was a great lesson on 2 Nephi 5. He is very knowledgable and interesting. He saw my face light up at one point and I had to admit it was not a question I had, just an ah-hah moment. This morning I taught seminary again since Diane Hebdon is out for three days. Love the kids. We threw Sally the Camel around and talked about choices and consequences. Then we went straight to Dr Whitney's for DJ to ahve her wisdom teeth out. She is a great patient and seemed to dare I say enjoy it? We went from there to the chiropractor to discuss computers and have my back straightened. Dianna is watching television and all is quiet on the home front. Cathryn called and we had an enjoyable chat and now I will certainly have a pleasant day!

More Countries! (Maybe)

In the last hour I have been semi-offered trips to Spain and Scotland. So exciting! We'll see if either actually pan out. Dianna is a teenager. Teenagerhood is God's way of making sure parents are ready to send their kids off to college.

Bryan's Accident

Bryan was in an accident on his motorcycle today. He is fine. He hit an oil slick and the bike went into a skid. He jumped off and the bike ran into the bumper of another car. (Something about a couple of strippers....) He has recently moved ten miles from the airport, so not having transportation will be a problem until he gets the bike fixed. But damage was relatively minor. He will also pay for the damages to the other car. His attitude is good and he understands sometimes these things happen.

DO NOT GO HERE

Okay, I warned you. It is a stupid, pointless, aimless, site. First glance will have you scratching your head. Then you just have to check it out a little to see why anyone would waste their time putting up a black page like this. You just manipulate the columns of sand, water, salt, and oil. Maybe a little fire, a few walls, plant a little something. Poor graphics. But I warned you. This thing is kind of addictive.

Quiet Day

I am scared to look at my calendar for fear I am supposed to really be doing something. I went to the doc yesterday and he said I don't really need a root canal. The tooth is too far gone, hence the constant pain. I need to have it pulled, then have them drill a screw into my jawbone and implant a fake tooth on it. How sad! Bummer Last night was Relief Society Enrichment meeting and it went well. What a lot of work. Today I ordered dish television, since they finally have a package that doesn't have MTV. I know I can lock it out, but it upsets me to pay for it! I checked on my bedroom furniture which is supposed to arrive the first week of April. Made an ortho appointment for DJ since she is going back into braces, now that her wisdom teeth are coming out Friday. Taught seminary. Cleaned the kitchen (badly needed) and now have to go through a week's worth of mail. Someone called on the bed. The sooner I sell it, the sooner I can move into my office. Gail's...

Monday Afternoon

Finished the chiropractic computers! I THINK everything is working fine and is virus protected and able to hit the internet and firewalled, etc. Now the focus is on getting ready for the Relief Society dinner tomorrow night. I will be buying some things, as well as doing lessons and games. Then Saturday night is David's luau so this is another busy week!

Computers

I took Dianna's computer apart and put in a new hard drive for her since she was overflowing her old one, especially with music. I have put together Gail's but am just finishing it up. It is only 1.56 Ghz but should be fine for her. I need to get the pieces to put together a nice one for me. This one is from 2001 and is only 1.1 ghz, which is pretty slow. It is funny how mad dad gets when he sits at it since it is slower than anything he is used to. He insists any computer he uses respond immediately. Well, my laptop is slow too, but I really like it. Cathryn got a new laptop, but it is in the shop. What a pain. New computers frequently have problems. Bryan seems to be doing okay with the one he built, and Allen is hoping to get a new one as well. I can't finish my new office until I sell the bed. I put up a notice at the Super Save, but it was gone in a day. I have advertised on the radio and television on the free sites and gotten a couple of calls, but the ...

Faraday the Hero

So I was talking to Dianna in my office downstairs, and the cat started meowing like crazy, which is weird since she never talks that much. DJ went ot check on her and noticed the smoke pouring down the steps. Oops. She ran upstairs, yelling, "fire". I ran up after her and found her in the middle of the kitchen holding the handle of a frying pan with flames shooting two feet in the air. "In the sink, in the sink", I yelled. So she went over, turned th water on, and put it in the sink. Un-oh! Then the flames really started shooting up. She grabbed the pan and ran back to the center of the kitchen. "No, turn the water OFF and put it in the sink", I told her. She stands there like a statue. Finally I convince her to drop it in the sink, where it safely burns out. No harm done, except a small burn on her finger, which doesn't even show. It just hurts. Note to Dianna: Never pour water on burning oil, and never cook oil on HIGH on the stove!

Overdoing It

Almos tten oc'clock at night and I have been gonig a hundred miles an hour all day. Seminary, then to Casons and worked on computers until 5. Still not finished. There were 666 malwares on teh one I took home last night so I call that one Satan! We went to eat at Chik Fil-A, then came home and I worked on Dianna's computer. We put in and formatted a new 80 gig hard drive. Set up a new telephone and answering machine. Moved the furniture back into the office now that the walls are finished. Soprted laundry. Meanwhile, there was a Ruritan handbook at Kinkos to pick up, cards to mail, and now I have to do the minutes for the Ruritans meeting tomorrow. The big birthday bash for Relief Society is next week. I am in charge and several people have backed out. Life is busy!

Busy Day

Seminary, then off to work on Cason's computers. I had David help me with the hardware since this is his spring break. He is so good at wiring the communications end of it. But there were problems. I was trying to get nine computers on the DSL line piped in the office, with various pieces of miscellaneous equipment, some working, some not, and no manuals or passwords. Okay, one password. It was tough, but looks like we got it going most of the way. Problem is, now they don't work with the main computer, the server, which is a Windows 2000 machine when all the others are XP. And it can't be upgraded to XP and the hard drive is full. So I need to move the master database, which is quite problematic without the install disks. Sigh. I hope I can talk to Casons soon, but they are out of pocket. Then had to to leave to take Dianna to the oral surgeon since she gets her wisdom teeth out next week. Fun. It is now five, and I will have to drive Dianna to her EMT course fr...

My Sunday Lesson in Relief Society

Going Down the Waterslide in God’s Embrace, but H Wallace Goddard Sara is the youngest of our three children. When we went to the water slide in our small Utah town, Andy immediately went to sliding, Emily gathered friends, and Sara hid in the car. Sara was only about six at the time. But it was not her age that explained her behavior. It was her temperament. She was cautious. When I invited her to come into the water park with us, she set her jaw and declared, “I will not ride the water slide!” I assured her that she did not have to ride the slide but we would love to have her with us. She came reluctantly and warily. When Sara had finally gotten comfortable in the park, I asked her if she would like to see what the waterside looked like. She eyed me suspiciously. But she took my hand. We climbed the stairs and watched people sit in the tube and shoot down the slide laughing. We walked down the stairs and watched people shoot out the tube into the little pool. Then again we climbed th...

Just Another Day

Today is Saturday. David is in DC teaching an MBA course. Dianna slept in my bed last night. She told me she had to be at school by 6 this morning for a barbecue. It was 20 degrees at 6 and, since the heat still doesn't work, only 68 in the house. Quite chilly, and I really ought to get another blanket for the bed. At 5:45 I tapped her and said "You don't really want to get up, do you?" So were were an hour and a half late. She worked at the barbecue until 2:30. I spent the morning updating her computer, devirusing, despywaring, and killing off old files, etc. Then went to Martha's and fixed hers, since the Panda Viruskiller was being cranky, and then came home to wallpaper the new office. Martha came and helped. We got it all finished. Now Gary Huffman is going to come by next week sometime and put up chair rail and I will be ready to start moving in furniture. Dianna wants to watch 13 Going on 30 tonight, but I have to teach a lesson tomorrow. I h...

Gail

I spent today with Gail. Well, mostly. I got up, took the D to seminary, bought everyone there sausage biscuits at Hardees, went back, gave them the biscuits, and drove her to school. She had to bring some mexican doughnut holes to school that she had made yesterday. Then I said goodbye to David since he is going to DC for two days to teach a course in computer security. I went to Gails at 10. We went to her bone doctor and found out she will have a new knee next month. (She already has two hips and one knee out of metal.) She is anxious to lose the only joint in her legs that is as old as she is. ?? years old and teaches English Country Dancing. This woman totally amazes me. Then we went to lunch and then in for physical therapy. They hang her from a funny medieval looking torture contraption for an hour to stretch out her back. We drove to the fixit shop to convince her that her 15 year old microwave isn't worth fixing, then went and loaded her car with everything sh...

Better Day

No pain today but I overdid it on the carbs and knocked myself out this afternoon. I am so bad. I will be good from now on. Dianna is torn because she wants to make her band director happy and she wants to go to EMT class. There is a concert next week during her EMT class. We don't have a new secretary for Ruritans so I am doing two jobs. Not much to say. Life is quiet and peaceful.

Don't Believe It

If you have read admiralbobcat.blogspot.com 's latest post, you will notice there is some pure libel about my sweet and wonderful Bee Box. Do not be misled. My Bee Box does not talk to cats.

Bad Day

It started out a good day. I went to the chiropractor and spent two hours working on his computers. Then spent the afternoon working on the Ruritan Handbook with Martha. But the wrist kicked in bad and I am on codeine. Wish it would stop hurting. It has been three months! Dianna made brownies for Young Women tonight. But halfway through she realized she was accidentally using the cake recipe. So she made a cake, but it really fell bad -- I think she tried to see if it was done way too many times. So it was flat and high on the sides. So we took it out and it tasted like brownies because it was thick from falling, but looked terrible. We made a chocolate almond whipped cream, broke it into one inch chunks, and mixed it together. Creamed Brownies. A Success! I hate pain.
