Patient Fisherman-Egret

 Close ups

Acrylic on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Donna did the the honors of hosting this week and provided a bunch of super photos!

I had to try this egret. They are such patient fishermen (as noted in the title).

This is acrylic on a 7x5 Gesso Art Board. It has a very slick non absorbent surface. I wanted to use some wet and wild techniques I had been mulling over. But much of my plans fell through. I like a few parts, though. All part of the learning process.

Cool School-Fish

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Christine did the job of hosting this week and provided a bunch of super photos!

It looked like this school of fish were having a good time just hanging out and looking cool.

I really enjoyed dealing with all the different blues.

Here's the original photo I cropped. Way too much for me to squeeze unto a small canvas,,,Lol!

Struttin' His Stuff-Rooster

 Close ups

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Maureen did a great job of hosting this week and provided a bunch of terrific photos! She always does.

I came across this quote by John Singer Sargent: "No small dabs of colour - you want plenty of paint to paint with."
I have been guilty of being stingy with paint...so this time my mounds of color were a little more generous. But most of the areas around the bird were done with thin paint for contrast.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Sue did a great job of hosting this week and provided a bunch of terrific photos!

This is Sue,. She was the hostess this week. I just had to try sketching her portrait. Loads of character and personality. The viewer can't help but wonder, "what is she thinking??".

Range Warrior-Bison

 Close ups

Oil on a 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Sue did a great job of hosting this week and provided a bunch of terrific photos!

Years ago, I fell into painting a lot of bison/buffalo. They were a popular subject . It became a regular thing until I ran out of good reference photos. So it felt good to go back and revisit one of these ol' guys.

Thick paint...much of it applied by painting knife.

Visions Of Walruses Danced In His Head-Polar Bear

 Close ups

Oil on a 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Jean did a super job of hosting this week and provided a bunch of great photos!

This is my Christmas greeting to you all. Merry Christmas everybody!!

This bear's tucked in his bed while visions of seals and walruses danced in his head.
He's probably parked just outside of Santa's cottage so the ol' boy won't have that far to travel to deliver the goodies.

Remembering The Gift-Christmas

Merry Christmas

Close up

Oil on 6x6 canvas panel.

This painting was originally posted on Christmas of 2011. It just seems to apply to this year...so here it is once more.

I keep our Savior uppermost in my heart.
The true spirit of Christmas is giving and...what you give is Love.
You will receive more back than what you gave...
The wrapped gifts are symbolic...
The true gift is love.

I would like to use this post to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May your brushstrokes flow as though guided from above, and may your fondest dreams come true in the upcoming year.
Thanks to all my blogger friends for all your kind support through the great trail and trial of canvas and paint.
God bless you all.

Luke 2:7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

Snow Cat-Snow Leopard

 Close ups

Oil on a 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Bunny did a super job of hosting this week and provided a bunch of great photos!

I have always loved the strong structural lines in the faces of the big cats. Plus there's a certain mystique surrounding snow leopards. A great subject that doesn't come up too often.

This colt/filly just reminded me of Spring. The weather has turned kinda nasty around here. So it provided a welcome break.

Serengeti Sundown-Elephants

I knew something was badly wrong about the colors in my image, but try as I may, I couldn't come close to solving the problem. Well, low and behold, today I solved it...so simple. I take all the photos of my art inside with a light setup that works for me. The camera had gotten on daylight setting instead of incandescent. It's been incorrectly set that way for at least a couple of weeks! No wonder I wasn't satisfied with my color adjustments. Anyhow, Here's a much truer image. ( Sorry about the confusion).

 Close ups

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Joel was the host and provided a bunch of great photos!

I combined two photos for this painting. A beautiful sundown and two elephants. Something about painting elephants touches a sad spot in my heart, knowing their plight just to survive a bit longer on this planet.

This is oil on a 5x7 canvas board. Part painting knife and part loaded brush. Plenty of paint for texture. I had to re-invent some of the lighting....never an easy thing to do.
Hope ya'all like it!

From The Heart-Figurative

 Close ups

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Marianne was the host and provided a bunch of great photos!

The harpist appears to really be into what he's playing ....harp from the heart.
This is oil on a 5x7 canvas panel. I wanted to do it all in knife, but I kept chickening out in tight spots...so this is about 50/50, brush and knife.
I wish I had made the background a different value or different color for more separation. I just don't feel like investing more time into it.

Poser-Cat Portrait

 Close ups

Oil on a 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Scatty was the host and provided a bunch of great photos!

It looked as though this cat saw the camera and struck a pose!

I toned this support with a thin later of alizarin crimson. That original toning makes up much of the background. I used some painting knife plus a heavily loaded brush.
