Backlit Cat

Close ups.

Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
Felt like doing an impressionistic...or expressionistic...well, since it's a bit of both, I'll just call it a "sionistic" style of painting. :)
Lots of paint...lots of color...lots of brushwork...lots of fun! I hope y'all like it!

Maria-Basketry In Bolivia

Close ups.

Oil on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.
I first toned the surface with acrylic using burnt sienna and yel. ochre. I let it show through in selected places such as the hat. I tried for broken color in this one. I'm pretty pleased with it.
The image for this painting was graciously supplied by Liz for WDE at Wet Canvas.
This is Maria, a basketry maker at the Carrasco National Park in Bolivia.

Ongoing Elk Saga

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
Well, here's our ol' friend again, Mr. Elk. In yesterday's post, I was uncomfortable with how the body left the paintings right side...a bit abrupt and stark. I like it better now with the darker areas added.

Whatchoo think...Did I improve it or destroy it???

Elk-Impressionistic

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
For this one, I tried to be a bit more impressionistic. A lot of fun.

White Rooster

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.

I quite frequently set specific goals for myself before beginning a painting. My goals for this rooster were: use varied, close value, broken color....Use plenty of paint( gobs)....use the painting knife for a larger percent of the painting than I normally do (stay away from the brush as much as possible thus avoiding getting caught up in unnecessary detail)....mix much of the colors directly on the panel.

To these ends I feel I was fairly successful. Right now I'm happy with it....gotta look it over a little while.
