June 2016

Deacon's primary teacher is basically a man-child. He invited everyone in class to come to Main Event for his birthday party^

Deacon's 2nd year at Cub Scout Day Camp.
Nathan was able to go one of the days as a chaperone.

Andrew G, Rohn L, Robbie S, Luka R, and Deacon.

Father/Son date to the symphony to hear Star Wars music.
Proof he loves his sisters :)

I found a Lego inspired calendar that gave daily prompts on things to build. For example: "Pretend you area  designer for Ford. Build an indestructible vehicle" etc.

Deacon Says

I found a notebook from the summer of 2010 with some of Deacon's sayings (he would have been 3):

"No babies in your office...circle with a line through it!"  {He would then proceed to draw a circle in the air with his hand and then put a slash through it...kind of like those 'no smoking' symbols)

To Nathan: "Stay in bed. Don't go to work. In the morning, when you wake up, just stay in bed and don't go to work." To which Nathan replied, "I wish I could." And Deacon replied simply, "Just stay in bed."

(He was wearing his breastplate and I happened to ask him for a hug) He said very seriously, "No hugs for battle-ers."

He used to describe things as, "Tall.....like a tower!"
Any large thing he'd see, he'd say, "That is tall....like a tower!"

Ways to Earn Muney (Money:)

Deacon is making a list of ways to earn "muney".
So far he has come up with:

-Work in a diamond mine. ("Mom, will you drive me there so I could go underground with my pick axe?).

-Sell the Box Tops that we've been collecting for his school.

-Do something funny and get it on video to send in to America's Funniest Videos.

Deacon's End of Year Kindergarten Concert

It was a Disney themed concert and I still catch him singing one of the songs they worked on all year "Friends Forever". Very cute.

100th Day!

For the 100th Day of School....all the Kindergarteners dressed up like they were 100 years old!
Deacon is right in the middle here (this is ALL 4 Kinder classes):

He borrowed grandma's cane and daddy's glasses.
We sprayed his hair white and googled "old person makeup" for his face.

This is just his class. Notice the pearls, shawls, buns, on the girls.
Suspenders, etc. for the boys.

I happen to be volunteering in his class that day and it was cute to see him scrunching his eyes up all day like an old geezer Ü

Part of the festivities required the kids to bring in a poster with 100 things on it.
Examples such as cheerios, pennies, etc. were given....but Deacon asked,
"What if there were 100 Deacons??"

So that's what we did!

Deacon Says (Jan 2013)

We just fixed up the aquarium in Deacon's room so they went to the pet store to buy fish. Deacon was so excited to come home and tell me they bought "allergy eaters" (algae eating fish).

Deacon kept asking me at the store for 'Cheerio Soup'....I finally figured out what he was talking about when we got to the aisle with the Spaghettios!

"Mom, I look like a gopher doing this, don't I?"------As I look over, he is vigorously gnawing away at his pop tart.

Learning (Guessing) to Read

Deacon is learning to read and sometimes he gets ahead of himself and just guesses based on the first letter of a word. For example, I had just written the following on a box of stuff that I packed up:

-DVD Screens
-Baby Monitor
-Helicopter
-Fart Machine

(For the record, the fart machine was Nathan's favorite birthday gift ever. It even comes with a remote control so you can make noises from across the room Ü).

Anyway, Deacon wanted to know what I had just written on the box so I told him to sound it out. He very quickly rattled off:

-DVD Sell
-Bad Moles
-Hunt
-For Mom

Words of Wisdom

Some recent words of wisdom from Deacon include:

"It is hard to bounce on your tail like a kangaroo if you don't have a tail!"

"Do you know what is stronger than a bear hug? A kangaroo hug!"

I was feeding Roslynn some applesauce and he said, "You should make your own baby food. It is healthier. Baby food has been around since 1982."   what???? where does he get this stuff???
He also went on to say, "Plus, baby food is cute. You know, how Roslynn is cute. So cute you grab her cheeks? That's how cute baby food is."

First Tooth!

Well, it seems a little too soon for this, but Deacon has lost his first tooth! Among his main concerns right after it came out (beside the blood and pain), he asked me:

-How will the tooth fairy know which pillow the tooth is under? He has two pillows on his bed right now and I told him she would check under both Ü

-Should he address the envelope with his tooth: "To: The Tooth Fairy/ From: Deacon" --OR-- "From: Deacon/ To: The Tooth Fairy"    (we went with the former)

-Also, he wanted me to address the envelope since he was concerned she wouldn't be able to read his writing and she might leave it behind.

Apparently it all worked out because she came last night and left him $1. He knows his cousin Charlie got $2 so I explained that in Nevada they don't pay state sales tax so she netted more Ü

Pictures soon!

Oh yes, an I totally lost the tooth! He was in such a dither after I pulled it out that I set it on a plate on the counter real quick and followed him to the bathroom. Then I loaded up all the dishes in the dishwasher without even thinking about it. Right before bed he asked where his tooth was! I freaked out and was feeling all over the bottom of the dishwasher (ewww) and it wasn't there! Luckily I had not started the dishwasher yet and the tooth was actually still stuck to the plate by the drool/blood (ewww). So crisis averted! Otherwise I would have thrown a pebble in the envelope and sealed it because he never really asked to see the tooth. Just kept touching it through the envelope.

Deacon Says....

"Okay, if the quarter lands on heads or tails, we get to go to Disneyland for our staycation."

Haha, sounds like a win-win proposition to me!

P.S. We've been talking a lot about our "stay"cation we're doing in Phoenix this week, but I don't think Deacon quite understands the concept if he thinks Disneyland is a possibility ;)

Deacon just came to me with a worried look on his face, "Mom, what if Roslynn grows up and speaks Spanish or anything??"

Tender

Deacon is soooo tender with Roslynn. He has always had a special love for babies in general, but he really loves his RoRo. I have a hard time pulling him off of her when she trying to sleep and he just wants to snuggle and stroke her and "teach her things".

Deacon in April 2012

Turned 5! Went to Red Robin with the family!
Easter was in April this year. Deacon inspecting his loot.

Not happy in the picture above for Easter Sunday.
But he makes up for it below:
 Opening presents!

 Cake with the family.

This shot below is hilarious. We were shooting rockets and Deacon looked so enthralled as I watched him. I wished I had a picture of it, but we had shot the last rocket. So I asked Deacon to "recreate" it. I said, "Look at the sky and pretend you are amazed with the rocket up there". I have to say he nailed it!

He likes to wear his shirts backwards (still does a year later as I am writing this Ü)

Tball game at Estrella Hills Park

T-ball game at the BIG field where Spring Training is for the big leagues!

March 2012

Getting ready to go to the dentist. Every picture I take now, they insist on doing a silly picture after:

Homemade stilts with empty food storage cans

Deacon started T-ball this month! He is on the Padres. Kind of hilarious to watch a bunch of 4-5 year olds play

His leprechaun trap (with Skittles as bait)

Magic Trick

Reading to Adelaide because I was way too pregnant to get down on the floor with them!

This is actually kind of amazing. Not sure how he managed to draw this on himself. Especially the "Deacon" part. He wrote his name twice. We think he did it while looking in the mirror because one of the 'Deacons' is written backward.

First spring training game for the kids!

They have a kids area where you can practice batting and pitching.

One last outing as a family! This was on Monday and Roslynn was born on Thursday!
