Follow the Son 2011--
Carrie and I got the opportunity to be a Ma and Pa for a ten kids on our stakes Pioneer Trek. We didn't get Josie or Shayleigh in our family but we did get ten wonderful children. We failed to take any pictures so we are starting to scrounge picks together from friends in the stake. But here is proof that at least two of the four from our family went.
We will find some pics of Shay and Josie and add those when I can.
It was a wonderful experience, down at the south end of the Utah Lake in Utah County. Hot and humid at times, pioneers didn't really dress for comfort I tell ya. Josie and Shayleigh seemed to have good families and reported that they loved the spiritual experiences and the testimony meetings. I think Shay might have been the only one that didn't get blisters. Josie struggled at first but found some inner strength and really came through.
It only took Carrie two weeks to decide she would definitely do it again, given the chance. That was quicker than her recovery between children hehe.
I am truly amazed by the women in my life and always thankful for them. They make me a better man, just to keep up at times.

Review of Gregor the Overlander--Suzanne Collins
Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
When eleven-year-old Gregor follows his little sister through a grate in the laundry room of their New York apartment, he hurtles into the dark Underland beneath the city. There, humans live uneasily beside giant spiders, bats, cockroaches, and rats—but the fragile peace is about to fall apart.
Gregor wants no part of a conflict between these creepy creatures. He just wants to find his way home. But when he discovers that a strange prophecy foretells a role for him in the Underland's uncertain future, he realizes it might be the only way to solve the biggest mystery of his life. Little does he know his quest will change him and the Underland forever.
Fun read! Great adventure!
I looked into this series after the Hunger Games series, to check out her previous writing. I hope to share this book with my 10 yr old soon, I think he will love the adventure. I will check out the other books in the series also.

Review of Divergent--Veronica Roth
Divergent by Veronica Roth
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I really loved this book! It gave me a lot of the same feelings that I had for the Hunger games. Although I don't really want to compare it to that series. In this book the society is divided into five factions. Each faction is dedicated to the growth of that particular virtue.
Candor-(the honest)
Abnegation-(the selfless)
Dauntless-(the brave)
Amity -(the peaceful)
Erudite-(the intelligent)
On a certain day every 16 year old that year chooses whether they will stay in the faction they were born into, or choose another to which they will devote the rest of their lives.
It was a interesting story following the characters and their choices and if it was a correct one. It made me think a lot about myself and the virtues I hold dear. A great read--I highly recommend!

Sweethearts
Shayleigh went on her first date! I know it doesn't seem possible! She asked her friend Seth Christiansen. They spent the day starting with breakfast, DI shopping, bowling and lots of laughter.
The whole motley crew came to our house for dinner--so yummy. Roasted corn soup, tropical pork tenderloin and hot brownies and chocolate chip cookie sundaes were enjoyed by all. At least they said they loved it!

I am number Four Review
Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books—but we are real.
Our plan was to grow, and train, and become strong, and become one, and fight them. But they found us and started hunting us first. Now all of us are running. Spending our lives in shadows, in places where no one would look, blending in. we have lived among you without you knowing.
But they know.
They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They killed them all.
I am Number Four.
I am next.
That was the synopsis that caught my eye and got me all a twitter about it. The writer on the novel is Pittacus Lore, which later I found out is a pseudonym for writer James Frey. This is number one in the series Lorien legacies. Action, adventure and romance, what more could I ask for? I am really looking forward to the next book and the movie that is coming out in February 2011.I give this 3.5 stars, it was a fun, exciting fast read.
