Christmas extended

After about 3 inches of snow church was cancelled…that turned into 14 over the course of one incredibly white, flurry-filled sabbath. And when it was done, the next day dawned like this.
There's a driveway in there somewhere. The boys' flight was delayed for 6 days. The entire city was on 'emergency vehicles on the road only' warning. It became the 3rd time in the last 10 years that Tony's work shut down and we enjoyed another holiday. We bundled up in our 63 degrees of 'warmth'...just chillin' alright. You know it's cold when...you want to wear gloves indoors, you can feel the wind blowing through the cracks & baseboards of the entire downstairs walls and last-but-not-least, when your wipes are frozen because they were too near one of those aforementioned baseboards. And yes, we had to walk in the snow uphill both ways...
Taking a picture from the second story window cuz there was no way I was going out in -17, -43 with wind chill. Nuh-uh.
But later that day Tony thought he should since he had to earn us some bread come morning.
He lasted 5 minutes, about 5 times with thaw-outs in between before determining his trusty hand shovel was no longer so trusty. It has a new name: insufficient.
We were on the brink of paying someone to dig us out when our angel of mercy (also known as our neighbor…the other having already dug us out twice in the last 2 weeks) with his beasty four-wheeler-snowblower combo (where were you all our Idaho lives?) cleared it in about 15 minutes. I kid not. They all enjoyed watching :)

School has been cancelled all week & tomorrow is on a '2 hr delay' notice already so we shall see if school will resume for one lone day this week or not. My vote is not. Then the boys won't have ANY days to make up! What a lark, eh? Nothing like a visit from Mother Nature to champion the cause of 'food storage' and 'being prepared…'

I have realized something. Star Valley may not be [one of] my Garden of Eden [s] after all. I have loved the reading of good books, puppet shows, coloring, and extra snuggle time, but yeah, I was starting to go stir crazy. Guess I'm more social than I realized. Go figure.

What a little wiggle will do

It looks so pretty when it's all brushed out like this. But the truth is, with her slight wave-thing going on, it NEVER looks like this for more than a few minutes! Plus she has another layer growing underneath so it was starting to look a little strange. The plan was to cut it to that shortest layer.
 Right about so.
There went her tresses. Until of course our certified wiggle worm did what she does best…wiggled just enough...
To get a big bit of a bob instead.
Well. She's a cutie-patootie no matter what, and hair grows. And it makes for a good story...

Christmas arrived

Ari's preschool Santa & I caught that picture juuust right.
Rhett ran right up to him calling, "Santa!!" Huh. That was a surprise compared to last year's sobbing…guess they have to grow up sometime...
Gym activities for the Christmas party.
Cookie making
Playing with awesome toys
 Songs of the darling-est nature!!
The first present to be seen (thanks Aunt Sarin & Uncle Jared!!)
Proudly wearing her stocking stuffer jewelry

She has a darling cloth dolly (thanks to Uncle Brett & Aunt Kim) she loves dearly, but Nana felt that dolly needed a companion with real hair & closing lashes. This is the result.
But first, Tony must conquer the tape.
And here is his reaction. Fortunately, dolly's alive to tell the story.
But just barely…
A bit of milk to soothe her achin' throat…
& loved back into binky-health
with a bit more help from her Da
Last, but not least are her own fancy shoes from Aunt Sarin & Uncle Jared to encourage her to stay out of her mum's!
Thomas the train gets a delighted smile (he fell in LOVE with one a friend's little boy brought over so that was his gift from Mom & Dad)
More wonder from Nana & Papa Cobia
Making the appropriate noises for the awesome construction trucks from Uncle Brett & Aunt Kim
Huh. How do I eat my Christmas cereal while holding this ball?
Never mind. Cereal is overrated. Gotta have priorities.

With the boys gone to their Dad's for Christmas it was low-key & very relaxing for us. Christmas Eve we watched the Nativity video on Mormon Messages (from the 'new' Bible videos), got out the figurines provided by Nana this year to tell the story & tucked them into bed. Tony & I got all ready & still had time to watch a movie together!

The next day we enjoyed the present revelry, talked with family & then went caroling with some friends & over to their house for dinner afterward. I enjoy having others over for holidays, but it was so much more relaxing not to!! A real treat! Tony had the two days following off, then the weekend so we did some shopping & really just enjoyed each other's company! Ahhhh…real life? What is that?!

The boys actually went to Idaho with their Dad & were able to visit with my Nana, Papa & Devin (my family), Tony's sister's family & Mom (Dina's crew & Grandma Laretta), my grandparents & Aunt Joce & her crew…Tough to be loved so much EVERYONE wants to see you!
 Great-grandma loves
A proper welcome from an uncle who misses you...
Thatsa lotta love right there. Yes, it is.
Saying goodbye. The boys are incredibly fortunate to have family on ALL sides in good ol' Idaho…it makes vacations crazy-busy, but you get to see everyone!!

Christmas coming

Stocking shelves at the food bank
Tony's Santa meal at work. Then off to...
…standing in line at the Indy airport... the entertainment becomes…me.

My ma ma!!

Our Thanksgiving surprise visitor--Nana Cobia!…it was a gooood video & we got it all!
My turn, same picture!
Sweetie Pie!! We picked her up from the airport with me with her 'I Love Nana' shirt on & kept looking at her with a slight 'Can I believe this?' smile on her until finally she broke into this beauty that seemed to say, 'She's really here!!' She kept calling Nana our "present."
One of our first events, courtesy of Nana
My mum gets a laugh out of the fact that Rhett eats twice what Ari does each morning :)
 Jyson caught this delightful moment.
The magic of a music box…in Costco :)

There are many other pictures, but at present are unavailable…more to come for my book's sake!
