Baby Proofing

When I came home from work the other night, this is what I found:

Yup, part of a wire hanger wrapped around the cupboard handles!!! This is Davis's version of baby proofing! lol To his credit, it did work to keep ME out of the cupboards! :) Since Gavin has a walker to help him get around, we are starting to baby proof. a little.

Gavin in his walker.

Getting excited about moving around and gettin into stuff.

Going wild and crazy, baby!!

On Sunday, Gavin and Davis wore their matching blue stripe dress shirts and brown pants. I'm going to try and make Gavin his own tie for church. Won't that be cute?!

I finally uploaded all the videos from our Flip {all 43 of them!} and thought I'd share one from yesterday. Gavin is saying his faVorItE word!! (oh and btw, if you have the newer version of blogger, you can't upload videos... you have to revert back to the old version. Just a little fyi.)

I forgot to mention in my last post that Gavin has learned how to get his arms out of his shirt. I went in to get Gavin after his first nap and he had his left arm through the neck hole. Then after his second nap, he had his left arm out and his shirt mostly around his neck!

Gavin is really good at walking as long as he has two fingers to hold onto. And he's starting to use his legs to push himself on his stomach. Problem is, he doesn't pull with his arms. He inherited my weak arms, I guess.

And we are almost ready for Halloween! Davis is finishing up Gavin's costume right now. It's going to be awesome!!!

Quick Update

This past week was a really busy one, so I didn't get any new pictures of Gavin. But since this is our family journal, I wanted to post on Gavin's latest things.

He turned 11 months old on Saturday. He will be turning 1 year old in less than a month. I so excited to plan his party! :)

He's learned how to say "hi" and says it to everyone. Even in Sunday School yesterday. People kept asking us if it was him saying "hi" during the lesson. Yep, our little guy was saying hi to all the cute baby girls in the back of the class. He just watched them, he was too scared to play with them. Smart boy. And yesterday when I went to get him up from his afternoon nap, as soon as I opened the door, I heard a "Hi!" from the crib. SO cute! It's such a fun word for him to say. He also says "Mama" and "Dada". (yes, music to our ears!)

He can now push himself backwards on his tummy. But then rolls over. Sorry, I don't think Gav-Man is going to be a crawler.

He has started to pull up a little bit. Not very strong yet. His tiny arms are rather squishy. Maybe we should start him on bench pressing regime or something. ;)

He's pretty good at standing while holding onto something and has started to take steps and grab onto something else near by, so cruising *just might* be in the near future. And when he lets go of what he's holding onto, he can stand for about 3-4 seconds before losing his balance.

A friend lent us a walker and he's really enjoying that. I think that will help him in learning to walk. {Don't worry mom, we keep it DOWNstairs.}

Gavin's hair is getting a bit long. Still debating whether I should cut it or not. I think it's kind of cute all shaggy. I think he'll grow up too much when I cut it. So I've been putting it off. Maybe I'll do that on his 1st birthday or something. We'll see.

He got a hold of my open mascara tube the other day and got black mascara all over his mouth. I'm just now asking myself why I didn't get a pic. Maybe because I felt like a bad mom. But it was pretty funny!

Davis applied for his first job last night. WAHOO!!! The process has officially started! Let me tell you how excited I am about Davis just being able to APPLY for a REAL job. Feels so unreal. He's been in school our entire 5 year marriage. But a real job is only months away. Davis finished his Norfolk rotation on Friday. I'm glad he doesn't have any more rotations until next semester. It's hard having him away.

And me. Let's see, umm, we had Super Saturday on Saturday. Went pretty good. Went longer than planned, but I think my class went well. I'm so happy to have it finally over. I got pretty stressed out about it. Had zits all over my chin. I've been training for a 1/2 marathon. I'm not running the Richmond 1/2 because it's a bit expensive, but I think I'll create my own "Linda's 1/2 marathon". Hopefully I can drag a few friends out to cheer me on at the finish or something. We'll see. Maybe I'll just train and just be happy that I just trained for it.

Well sorry for all the wordage. Just wanted to write it all down. Someday (read: when Davis has a job) we'll pay to have this blog printed into a book. If anyone is interested, I found this awesome website that does it: blurb.com. I hear they do a good job at a decent price.

Utah Trip

Warning, lots of pictures!! We took over 300 pics on this trip... but don't worry, I didn't post ALL of them! ;)

Gavin and Great Grandpa Gary (and Turner)

Gavin loved playing with my mom's 2 dogs, Turner and Gus. He was completely fascinated by them and loved grabbing their tags. {and ears}

We met up with Tara, Travis, and Cyrus and got lost in a corn maze. For some reason, we didn't take a group shot, which I'm sad about. Davis and I were playing around while we were waiting for them and so I guess we just checked picture off.

Great Grandma Gardner taught us how to make chocolates. {nope, I didn't sample any. Good thing I don't like chocolate or I think I would have easily gained 2 pounds that day.} Don't be surprised if you get some chocolates for Christmas this year....

Rolling out the fondont.

Grandma and Grandpa Gardner.

Great Grandma Gardner crochets hats for Humanitarian Service and gave one to Gavin.

Gavin with his soon-to-be uncle Keith.

Either Crystal is really short or Keith is really tall...oh wait... :)

Great Grandpa and Grandma Richins

Scott, Ashley, and Paige. We were so excited to meet sweet little Paige. Ashley had her dressed up so cute.

Mom had a bowl of fresh plums from her tree and Gavin figured out where they were and loved biting into them and tearing them apart. I'm sure he went through at least a dozen plums.... which would explain all the poop he had while flying home....

Oma and Opa Richins

Gavin stayed on his Virginia schedule during the entire visit. So he was waking up at 4:30am Utah time and going to bed at 5:00pm. Then Davis and I were staying up late visiting with everyone and driving all over. So when my good friends, Amy and Jess stopped by to say hi, I felt like a zombie. AND I forgot to get a picture with them!! I was so mad when I realized this. Flying with a little one is SO exhausting and stressful. It took me a couple days to get my brain back. And it didn't help that Davis left for Norfolk for a rotation the morning after we got home.

I also wanted to document some battle wounds. Davis had these cancerous growths (not the bad kind...benign lipomas which means fat tumors) on his arms removed 2 days before we flew to Utah.

The doctor said they will most likely grow back.

And then I got a blood blister on my toe from running. So we felt like gimps while we were traveling.
