Let's Celebrate!

Yesterday Davis and I celebrated our 5th anniversary. Can't believe it has been 5 years already! I feel so blessed to be married to such a wonderful man. We usually haven't done much in the past for our anniversary due to school, finances, and jobs. But Davis was determined to make this year different.

To start off, he made me the most ginormous bouquet ever (yes, made. He bought the flowers and then did the arrangement himself. pretty impressive, huh?)
We then went on a cruise on Swift Creek Resevior and had a delicious lunch from Maggiono's, complete with Sparkling White Grape Juice. yummy!

Below is the only picture of Davis from yesterday. He deleted all the rest. stinker.

Gavin loved being on the pontoon boat. I love these next 2 pics. You can see his 2 lower teeth.

It got pretty hot on the water, so we stripped Gavin down to his diaper. He had fun standing on the seat and holding on so he could look out at the water. He has recently learned how to wave bye-bye. So we got him to wave bye-bye to the fishies and birds.
Then after all this, Davis surprised me by buying me the machine I have been drooling over for some time....

the QuicKutz Silhouette SD Digital Craft Machine. Ok, I have been saving up for this for awhile, but didn't think I could afford it for another couple months. But Davis found it online for less than 1/2 the normal price AND free shipping. He just couldn't pass it up. This was a big splurge for us, but in Davis's words, "Our 5th anniversary only comes once in a life-time." So I let is slide :)

What a fun day! I am such a lucky girl!!

A couple weeks ago, Charisse and I took our friend Liz out for lunch to celebrate her birthday. We went to Uno's Grill.

I made Liz a couple fabric headbands for her birthday (to find out how I made them, check out my new craft blog)

I love Liz. She's such a goof ball and will do anything.

Here's Liz's little man, Tommy. He's a cutie!
Little Gav-man was a sneak and stole my lemon. I didn't think he'd like it so I let him have it. He actually enjoyed sucking on it!! And he didn't make a funny face or anything!
Gavin and I watched Tommy yesterday morning for a couple hours. Tommy and Gavin get so excited when they see each other. It's really cute. Tommy is a couple months younger than Gavin, but I think Gavin weighs less. (Gavin's in his PJ's, I didn't have time to get him dressed before Tommy got here.)

And I just finished making this skirt this morning. I made it from scratch, pattern and all. If you'd like to make one, I posted a tutorial on my new craft blog .

another update: 9 months

Yup, another Gavin update. Sorry. But this is the last "big" milestone before the "really big" 1 year milestone. So hold on and if you are a grandma to Gavin, I'm sure you're the only ones left reading this!! haha.

The stats:
Weight: 17.5 lbs 15th percentile (he really does eat, I promise! see my last post!!)
Height: 27.5" 40th percentile

Gavin loves talking and is getting very vocal. It's fun hearing him experiment with sounds. He has 3 teeth now and has started brushing his own teeth:

Haha, just kidding. I gave him my toothbrush to chew on. But we are starting to use finger mitts to clean his teeth at night. Which isn't a fun job when you have 3 surrated teeth chomping down on your finger!

***Question: Do you enjoy seeing the projects/crafts I'm doing? I'm considering starting a new blog to put all my ideas/projects on. Would anyone else find that interesting? Or should I just occasionally post them here? Please leave a comment with your thoughts.***

the very hungry little boy

(an adaptation from The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle)

In the light of the morning, a little boy lay in a crib. That Friday morning the warm sun came up and -surprise- out of the crib comes a very hungry little boy. He started looking for some food.

First he ate some milk, but he was still hungry.

Then he ate through a handful of cheerios, but he was still hungry.

And then he ate through half a piece of bread, but he was still hungry.

So then he ate one cube of pears,
one cube of peaches,
and one bowl of oatmeal cereal.
Then he was thirsty! So he drank some apple juice. After that he felt much better.

Now he wasn't hungry anymore- and he wasn't little anymore. So he sat and played with some toys and then hopped into his crib for a nap. He stayed there for over an hour. Then he talked his way out and....

he was a handsome 8.5 month old little boy!

I can't believe how much this little guy eats!

Here's Gavin in the cute outfit Oma sent. Thanks Oma!

I can't resist posting a couple bath tub pics. Why is it so fun to take pics of naked babies?! Gavin loves being able to sit up in the tub and bat at the toys as they float by. And... suck on the the wash cloth.

This next shirt is an old onesie that was too short but plenty wide, so I cut off the bottom and turned it into a shirt. Then I found a cool tutorial online on how to make your own "screen printing" for shirts using freezer paper and fabric paint. I wanted to try it out so this is my first go at it. I think it turned out really cute! What do you think? (ignore all the guck/drool all over it)

Crystal this is the skirt I made.
McKenna here's the recipe for the pie crust:
No Fail Pie Crust
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 T lemon juice
1 cup shortening (I said it was easy, not healthy!:)
1 egg, beaten
3 T cold water
Mix flour and salt. Cut in shortening until it pea size. Beat together in a seperate bowl, egg, water, and lemon juice. Pour over flour mixture and stir until well blended. Use flour generously to roll out. Makes 2-9" crusts. The crust will turn out flaky even with lots of handling. (I know this from experience!!)
