St. Patrick's Day 2013

St. Patrick's Day is quickly becoming one of my favorite non-religious holidays. I really love our traditions of setting leprechaun traps the night before and of having various green foods throughout the holiday!

The night before St. Patrick's Day we read our book The Night before St. Patrick's Day.
Clever, right?

Then David and the boys got to work on our traps.
Everyone pitched in!

Our awesome traps.

We had to trap this cute boy to keep him from destroying our traps.
William and Henry were very excited for the leprechaun to come!

The leprechaun came!
He left behind quite the trail!
Green paper and gold coins.

The boys awoke to a huge mess in their room!
As they cleaned it up they found more green paper and gold coins.
Then they started following the trail throughout the house.

Henry got bored and decided to draw instead.

William diligently followed that trail.
We didn't find the leprechaun and he didn't fall for our traps, but he did leave us a treat -

I already have new ideas for next year!
Such a fun holiday!

Gateway Children's Museum/Madhouse!

On Friday March 14th we took our boys to the Gateway Children's Museum because it was free.
When we got there it wasn't very crowded. We headed upstairs to play for a while.

The boys had fun pretending to be on KSL news!

Henry and I tested out the Green screen.

We did an OK job forecasting the weather.

The boys loved all the fun things in the control room.

We played in other areas as well and had a great time.
Then the crowds started pouring in!
It was insanely busy. Way too busy.

He headed out to see the helicopter since not many people were out there.
I don't know the little boy next to Henry.
Overall we had a fun time. We left earlier than we planned because of the crowds. So we walked around the Gateway Mall for a bit and watched the fountains.
We had a fun family outing, but I highly doubt we'll go back to that Children's Museum.

Silly, sleepy boy

On the evening of Monday March 11th, I went to Terry's house to work on a craft project with her.
I put the boys to bed before I left.
Apparently soon after I left, William got out of bed to look for me.
When he couldn't find me he climbed in my bed.
David found him a short time later fast asleep with the lights on in our room.

When I got home David showed me what he had found.
After admiring him for few minutes we pulled back the covers so we could carry him to bed.
We laughed at what we found -

William not only sought comfort in my bed, but he also sought comfort in my pink slipper socks!

We decided to leave the socks on him when we put him in his own bed.

The next morning when William woke up he said, "mommy! Why am I wearing your socks?"
Oh, funny, funny boy. I wondered the same thing!

Henry Counts!

This cute little boy has been able to count for several months now.
But it wasn't your typical counting.
He always counted, "1,2,3,7,8,9,10."
The amazing thing was how his fingers always ended up perfectly matching what he was saying.
We worked on counting to 10 (and including 4,5,6) while washing hands for a few weeks.
I think he has the hang of it now.
But his old way of counting will be missed because it was so cute and funny!

Lunchtime!

Why is this cute little munchkin sitting up to the table to eat his lunch?

Because his cute friend has commandeered his chair.
This situation really isn't typical, but the sight of Charlie sitting at the table was just too cute to not share!

We started babysitting our good friends' little boy, Zayden, back in January. All the boys love and adore him. On the weekends they always ask where he is. He's pretty fun to have around!

Seuss Day 2013

On Saturday March 2nd we celebrated Dr. Seuss Day.

We had green eggs and ham, biscuits, cat in the hat fruit kabobs, and moose juice for breakfast.

Lots of excitement at the table!

Charlie was a little nervous about the green eggs and ham.
But he enjoyed it all!
We of course read Green Eggs and Ham around breakfast time.

After breakfast we loaded up in the van and headed out to a surprise destination.
On the way we read If I Ran the Zoo.

Our surprise trip was to the zoo!

It was a lovely day for the zoo!

The otters were so fun to watch! We also saw the seals, sea lion, and polar bear.

Charlie was enthralled!

The boys loved watching Rizzo (the polar bear).

We also loved watching this grizzly bear play in the water.

William got to feel a real moose antler.
This was a good tie in to Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose which we had read at home earlier in the week.

We ate a picnic lunch and had these delicious beauties for a treat.

Carousel!

Zuri (the baby elephant) was pretty funny to watch in that tube. She turned it on its side while she had her hind legs in it. She struggled for a minute to get back up on her feet, but you could tell she was really enjoying it!

I made 2 new hats this year so now each of the boys can have one. William and Henry wore theirs the majority of the time we were at the zoo.

We attempted taking pictures of the boys with their Dr. Seuss hats on.
Charlie didn't want to keep his hat on!

William tried holding it on Charlie's head.
I love Henry's face in this picture!

This was the best one we got of all three of them wearing their hats.

Outtakes!

Cute brothers!

Me and my boys!

On the way home from the zoo we read Horton Hears a Who.

When we got home Grandma D brought a surprise over for the boys.
Their very own Horton!

We then read Bartholomew and the Oobleck.
The boys enjoyed that story!

We then made our own oobleck!
William wouldn't touch it.

But Henry loved it!

I loved playing with it too.

OOOOoooobleck!!!

We had a great Dr. Seuss Day!
We sure love this fun family tradition!

Treehouse Museum

We went to the Treehouse Museum in Ogden on the 25th of February.
I had heard it was discounted that day so we decided to go check it out.
When we got there we found it was free that day!

We enjoyed a few storytellers.

Then we went to Africa to play!

I'm not quite sure where he got this giant hat from.
But he thought it was funny!

The boys played for a while with this safari set.

It was perfect. It had elephants for Henry and lions for Charlie and a car for William!

We then looked around and played in the rest of the museum.
We had a great time!
