Final Post from Deseret Land & Livestock
Well this is our last two day at DLL. We are having the Seminar for 2011 on Saturday Aug. 14 and then we will be finished here on this mission. It is a little sad to leave but we need to get Sister Hawk's knees replaced, so that is our next big thing. We have so enjoyed our time here. The three years has just flown by. We will miss the ranch with all the wildlife, cattle, cowboys and the Trekking. We had 7600 people here this year for Handcart Treks, we made many new friends and have a wonderful time, never to be forgotten. We will miss the long days and hard work, but it will be good to rest a little. The other Missionaries have been so good to work with, we will miss them, but life moves on. This will be our last post for our Blog, we hope you have enjoyed viewing it.

Deseret Land & Livestock July 17, 2010
We just finished another week of Trekking. This week Sister Hawk and I had the Syracuse South Stake. There was about 450 to 500 people in the group. We Trekked 12 Miles the first day and 5 the second day. Then on Friday we went another 5. On Friday it was as hot here at DLL as I have seen it in my three years here. The temp. was 91 degrees and that is hot here at 7000 Feet. I took a few pictures this week. The first one in a Buck that I saw near the gate in the tall brush. I only got his antlers. The second one is seagulls setting on the rock during the time the group was having a Ho Down. The third one is trekkers having Ho Down. The fourth one is Seagulls Again. Number 5 is the group having a meeting before they start Trekking on Saturday morning. 6 & 7 is there Handcart loaded and ready to hit the trail.
We are going to Delta after Church on Sunday so we can take our 4 Wheeler home and get the MRI on Sister Hawks knee. We are going to the doctor in Provo on Monday afternoon, to set up a time for her knee operation. We are hoping to get it done soon after we finish here at DLL. We will be done here on Aug 16.

Desert Land and Livestock July 10, 2010
Just a few words from DLL. Sister Hawk and I didn't have a Trek this week, we hauled water for the other treks. We have 4 more weeks of Trekking.
Last week we did see a small Moose. Next week we have four Treks here at DLL. I am looking forward to Trekking again after a week off. Our Treks
start on Wednesday and we have late nights on Wednesday because the Treks travel around 10 miles and that is after they get here and load there
Handcart and start out on the trail. The second night they most always have a hoedown that will last until 10 pm. Then on Thursday night sometimes we
get back to our trailer a little earlier. On Friday night the groups have a testimony meeting and that last until 10 pm or later. On Saturday they finish
there Trek and leave here about 2 pm.
The work is not really hard but it is tiring, we are always tired on Saturday evening. Today we found one of the Port A John trailers has a bad wheel bearing
so on Monday we will repair that. We always make repairs to Handcarts on Monday, move equipment around to where we need it. On Tuesday we
have a day off to go to the valley. On Tuesday night we haul the water trailers to the ranch ( 14 miles) to fill them, to get ready for Wednesday.

Deseret Land & Livestock June 27, 2010
Another week has passed, week three is now finished.
Sister Hawk and I had the Centerville North Stake with 452 people,they used 29 Handcarts. The weather was very good, and all went very well. Centerville North
had a large water truck that they rented. The tank held 4000 Gallons and they used it all. It helped us so we didn't have to haul there water from the ranch. We are
getting a new well but it won't be drilled until after we leave.
We have Draper Utah Stake next week, with 450 people. The route we planned for them is out of Corrals to the north. The route is about 26 miles. Sister Hawk
and I drove around and looked at the camp grounds last night and all look good. The weather is warming up now. We have 6 more weeks of Trekking and then our
seminar for next year. Sister Hawk and I have made the 2011 schedule, we had several cancel so it was a challenge, but we filled it.
We are looking forward to being done with our Mission. We only have about seven more weeks.

We finished our week two Trek, (Bountiful Mueller Park) The week started off with the Missionaries having to haul water from the main ranch, about 14 miles away.
We had four Treks last week so that means we use about 6000 gallons of water during the week. The well here at trek headquarters is about dry, so we must haul all the water, We bought a 1150 gal. tank and a pump so that is how we get water for the Trekkers. We have five couples this years so the one without a Trek does the hauling.
Sister Hawk and I had a nice group this week. I walked 11 miles with them, but I don't know if I can walk that much next week. I may ride my 4 wheeler some. Sister Hawk was in charge of leading the support groujp around the route. We had rain on Wednesday and we even had a small ice storm. On Thursday the weather changed to summer in one day. It was 67 on Thursday and 72 on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday we go to church in Evanston, Wyoming. After church we sleep and get ready for the next week. The weather has finally warmed up. It was 26 degree on Thursday morning but this morning it was 39 degrees at 7 AM.
I am attaching several pictures of girls pulling up a hill on there woman's pull. I also attach a few shots of an Eagle that I saw flying just above the ground.I also
attach a picture of Sister Hawk awarding the other Sisters a feather with beads for learning the trails.
All is Well with us. We are enjoying the last summer of our Mission. I don't know what we will do next year. Sister Hawk will be having her knees replaced so
I guess that is what we will be doing.

We finally have had two days in a row with sunshine. Maybe spring is finally here at DLL. We have about all the work done to get ready for Treks. We start Trekking this week on Wednesday.. I think all the missionaries are ready to get started. We have 5 couples here this year and we all get along very good. We work together and play together. I am enclosing pictures of some of the people and things we are doing. The first one's are of the Elders and Sisters after cleaning out the barn. It is so dirty that we had to wear masks. The next several are of a Badger that I found along one of the trails. We have some fun here it's not all work, Elder Coe had a kite and we were flying it on Saturday evening.
We had 5 Route Reviews on Saturday, that's when people come from the various groups and we take them on the route that they are assigned. It takes from 2.5 to 4 hours to answer all there questions and get them all the way around there route. All the routes start and end in the same place. We are using about 5 different routes this year. We have 25 different routes that we can use. This week we only have two Treks, next week we have four. One problem we have is that our well is not working very good. Because of the dry winter here the water table is very low. We are hoping to get the Treks done without hauling water from the Main Ranch. Each Trek use about 1500 to 2000 gallons of water. In June it's not as bad as in July when it gets warmer.
All is Well here at Deseret Land & Livestock. Sister Hawk is still having trouble with her knees, but she is going to finish this Mission. We are just happy to be here on this wonderful ranch and get to do what we do here. The fun is about to start with the Treks. We are seeing many animals and many have young. This is a really great place to spent three summers of our life.

DL&L May 26, 2010
It's been a couple of weeks and I decided I better send a few things. On Monday May 24, it snowed about 8 inches again. We got up to a snow storm and it snowed until
about 11 am. I have attached pictures to prove my claim. Also, on Monday I pulled a trailer to Elberta to pick up two little trucks that we are trying out. They are 11 feet 8 inches
long. The steering wheel in on the right side. Today Wednesday, May 26, we rebuilt 5 Handcarts. We worked all day on the job, the Sisters helped us and we had a picnic at noon.
The weather here at Deseret Land & Livestock has been rainy, snowing, windy almost everyday for this entire month. We are hoping June will be better. Our Treks will start on
June 9. We have 28 Treks this year, 24 Stakes and 4 Wards. Sister Hawk and I divided all the treks up between the other four couples. Everyone has six Treks except Sister Hawk
and I we only have five.
Sister Hawk had shots in both her knees but it didn't help her. She is planning to have her left knee replaced as soon as we finish up here in late August. She is in pain most of the
time. She takes pain pills at night so she can sleep. I told her we could maybe go home after we train all the Missionaries, but she said no not until the Mission is over. I thought
she would say that.
We are training the new Missionaries on the ranch Trekking rules and the routes. All of these Missionaries have been at Martin's Cove so they understand the program. We are having
fun with this group. I am ready to turn things over to someone else after this year. This is our third year on this Mission and I think next summer I'll go fishing.
