underrated

underrated

i think sometimes we don't appreciate what we have in front of our eyes as much as we should. I was standing by the window, kinda runing away from the noise of drilling for fear it'd drive the baby crazy. heh.

i stood beside the window on the service balcony and gazed out on the nice day. There were flowers on the trees and it was a clear day.

Then i realized what a calming view we have actually.

And I totally recalled and felt justified at our decision never to fork out a ridiculous amount for a place with a view - cuz u'll never really be spending all that much time 'looking' at the view.

"baby turkey"

ANd there was so much food yesterday that we decided not to touch the chicken. So dan and I had it for dinner today. My hub is sweet. I came home late...as I was packing things up in office (my second last day) and was waiting for parents to give me a lift home. He waited for me downstairs to help me bring up my barang.

Then i reach home to a lovely smell of oven-chicken. He said he'd heated up the chicken and pasta sauce.

Nothing better than coming home and getting down to eating.

The pic of dan cutting effortlessly through the chicken with our new (free) poultry scissors given by Mayer when we bought the hob and hood.

I feel blessed.

dan's obsessed with it...together with this other book called Asian Parenting which we incidentally saw at Kino JUST before we went to the library. He was so thrilled that i found it at Bukit Merah Library and starting reading abit today. it's readable (he very happily comments as I get outta the bath while he sits around and waits for the coming rain - which never came!) That's my hub. Very sch-weeet in letting me get all nice and comfy before him.

just a little explanation. We were expecting the rain. But the breeze was so great we didn't wanna keep all the windows closed. So we thought we'd leave them open till the last minute. Meaning we both couldn't be bathing at the same time mah....so of course, i get to go first. :)

And if you see my blog, you'll know why i'm so eager to get bathing and smell nice. :)

We didn't make it any further (though the plan was t o head to Robinsons and I did wanna go OG just to take a look since i've never quite wandered into that building much.)

Lucky we got dad to pick us up or we would have CLEAN forgotten to return the library books - which warrants ANOTHER post :)

Long Weekend Post

(cross posted in Zoe's journal)
The weekend was quite WOW! Maybe cuz i got SO many days off work I'm actually erm, overwhelmed by how nice it is to spend time with Dan, despite him feeling slightly under the weather the whole time. He's spent every single moment with me - almost for Sat and Sun.

FRIDAY:
Spent the morning tidying up some things at home - but not enough though. Dan spent the whole day in school and had some teachers' gala dinner that night. I went over with parents to bro's and we had our first mahjong session since I've gotten pregnant. we played 2 rounds and i felt pretty restless for the second round cuz sitting for too long already.

Rushed over to Bedok North's "85 market" for good ol' hawker fare before dropping bro back home, then driving parents home to change for a wedding dinner. I dropped them off at Harbourfront Towers. I went home to chill for awhile, relax and rest cuz i was so tired. Left again about 10-ish to pick the parents pick and send them home before picking dan up from ritz carlton. I think it rained that night and we slept real well.

SATURDAY:
Parents off to Kukup for the weekend! Dan & I were out of the house by 9-ish to help out at a friend's friend wedding.

That's us looking silly in the car
Just done with another wedding

We didn't stay for lunch as we wanted to meet bro to get the fuel card and pump petrol - given how much travelling we're anticipating for this weekend. Dan also wanted to go to Ubi to "look-look-see-see" as he's never been to the automobile megamart. as usual, going there means getting hounded left-right-centre by salespeople trying to fetch in a customer or 2. But they weren't getting anything outta us - not within our budget and necessity to get a(nother) car since we're already sharing with the parents for this one. but it was a good experience for him to see all the parallel imported cars as well as the myriad of second-hand cars available.

After walking around there, we were kinda stuck. Going home meant petrol+time wasted, and only less than 1.5hours spent at home before we were due at Tessensohn for a wedding dinner. So we ended up in novena square (II) walking around, eating & having 'coffee' (milo actually). We landed in this nice Japanese bakery called MAMA BAKERY. THe breads were quite nice, tasty and unique. We had a Chocolate-covered Cranberry Bun, Tuna thing, and a green-apple & almond bun. The milo was abit of a disappointment though as you will see from dan's expression. The entire experience however, was enhanced by a beautiful sunset amidst the nice (&cooling) alfresco-ness of the seating and photo opportunities for dan while I stuff myself like a penguin.

The spread! Simple presentation - eat with your hands kinda concept. Serviettes? They have a box of tissue at the counter whereby you can tug whatever u need.
Mama's Bakery - Yum!

Not a very complimentary photo really - with my mouth all stuffed with buns and leaning back to rest my aching back.
i look like a penguin in this shot!!

The less-than-desirable milo, as you can see from dan's expression.
What kind of Milo is this!?

But overall, a nice experience at Mama's bakery :) We're far above the road level - so the alfresco-ness was not polluted and hot. Was in fact really quite cooling.

I wanted to capture him amidst the sunset..but it ended up abit dark and i haven't photoshop the pic yet.

I'm not sure about this....SCALE?
not sure about this shot...

Anyway, after all that 'fun', the cam batt finally signaled a low-batt status. the funny thing about the Coolpix P5100 is how there isn't a batt gauge UNTIL the low batt. But thank God the low batt doesn't come out only when it's JUST about to die. We had quite a few more shots before it died actually!

So after the wed dinner (which we didn't take any pictures of), we dropped by parents to check on the cats. I felt so bad when I left them (after about half an hour). While I was busying around in the house, Dan basically hang around outside with cow-cow (to make sure he didn't wander downstairs!!!) and took pictures. Here goes a few more pics of the silly kitties:

Not really bothered by anything...

Strangely so blardy jumpy all over that night...my smookie dooks.
My Timid Smookie

We called it a day/night at about 12mn and went home totally pooped. Thus no update till today.

SUNDAY:
Didn't whip out the camera much today...except for a few shots at the funfair in the morning, and dan's current favourite subject - the flyer....always taken while i'm driving across the Benjamin Sheares bridge...thus the not-so-clear quality at times.

We were out the entire day again, for the Church of St Bernadette funfair in the morning, then to pick up bro for one of our God-aunties' housewarming in Tampines. Her executive apartment was so huge and so nicely renovated. nice. We only stayed for awhile cuz Dan & I had to rush back to St Mary's for Xmas practice. So it was like a cross-island thing for us. Finished xmas practice and went to queensway to zap stuff, then back to parents to get them for mass as they have just reached home. Dinnered at the new food court in Great World City - which we SHOULD have taken some pics but i think everyone was tired.

At the funfair - saying hi to my friends. I couldn't quite be of much help at the stall anyway.

Dan's cousin('s wife) had a stall. She likes making these candles - for baptism, christmas, whatever. They made our matrimony candle too.

We reached home 8-ish, totally punctured. But I still got my foot massage (courtesy of my loving hub). Happy girl I am.

Originally uploaded by LezY.

it was a splendid weekend of stuff to do, times to laze and family gatherings - which usually turn into mega makan sessions.

Had friends over in the morning on Sat for a wedding prac. That lasted till lunch - where DAn & I had something simple at the food place opposite our block, and proceeded to walk around the industrial compound to digest our lunch. WE discovered the factory making Joo Chiat rice dumplings as well as tiong bahru pau. And if we had a car, we would have bought more drinks at wholesale prices.

WEnt home totally exhausted (me) and and with swollen limbs. My fingers and feet were all puffed up strangely. I downed more water, took a quick shower and rested. The plan was to meet the parents later in the afternoon to go over to Baby Hyperstore at Kaki Bukit for a look then meet bro for dinner.

Wasn't too impressed with Baby Hyperstore - nothing much leh. I mean, not for the name "HYPERSTORE"! I guess it would be a good price comparison if you wanted something, had the model number and just called to check the price.

We ended up pigging out at Changi Village Food Centre. Bought some cakes home for Sunday breakfast. Reached home and spaced out to the nice breeze that's been accompanying us all weekend.

Beautiful Saturday.

THE PENGUIN!

pregnant me.
Originally uploaded by LezY.

The first pic i've taken in 4 months. I think on any other time in my life - i may not have taken a pic in as long. But with the counting of days, weeks and months of the pregnancy and the changes happening to me, it feels somewhat of a LONG time.

Just last night at my parents' place - where i had walked to after work to see my cats - which i know would cheer me up in an instant, i told my mum, i can't wait to *poot* this egg out. I meant the baby lah. I said it in mandarin so literal translation lah. I miss being agile and hopping all over the place. (being spurred on this line of thoughts becuz i saw this guy crossing the road with the greatest ease while BIG TUMBLY ME had to WADDLE)

Yes, i literally waddle. argh. i used to think pregnant woman DIDN'T have to walk like this! Boy was I wrong. We DO have to waddle. argh.

And just taking a second look at this pic...i think that stretch of beam above my head - just abit to the right above me - would be ideal for a clock!

(i've been trying to both find a clock and well, also to find a place to put it!)

One Leg Kickin'?

i think i've started feeling the baby kicking. it's not distinctive. but on n off, i feel some 'nudging' internally. at first i thought it was just some, well, air or whatever...since there's been so much happening.

but with the frequency, i think i'm beginning to comprehend it as 'kicks'. Understandably, it's not gonna be very distinctive yet since the baby isn't quite that big. (believe it's estimated to be about 20cm now.)

so yeah, baby, kick all you want now..but take it easy later. It's quite interesting to feel you kicking when i'm in the middle of a meeting. It's quite.....unsettling and sometimes i feel like i'm smirking.

hah.

Thing is there was like one hole missing and well, we didn't bring it back immediately cuz he'd decided we could just buy a drill (which we would probably need in future) and drill that hole.

So yeah, there is he, just bathed and and dying to unwrap the stuff. Tinkering with the free screwdriver than comes with it.

Totally happy and looking for more holes to drill. hah.

My first gynae appointment was on Oct 1 - Children's Day. Unfortunately, it was at 11am and dan is not teaching in a primary school so he has to be in school.

I had a really long and detailed scan and well, it's been revealed that we'll be 99% expecting a baby girl.

From that moment, the entire pregnancy had begun to feel slightly more REAL. It may be hard for some of you to comprehend on surreal it's been, looking at myself get clumsier, bigger, "bloater" and etc. You don't literally feel something growing inside u, u know?

So well, i feel more motherly - in some manner and I know whatever it is, I'm gonna put in my best efforts to do whatever I need to do - whether or not i feel like doing it.

But eh, for now, i wanna go enjoy my nice room and rest my aching back, aching tailbone and butt.

(of sorts cuz there was like carrots, veggie, mushroom, onions & tofu in the soup as well so it's like a all-in-one soup.)

ALso had a side of hash browns, fish fingers and scallops (all baked) in case ryan wanted some bites. WEll, of course the adults gobbled all the baked stuff up too.

Dessert was cake - Ryan's birthday cake of course. Meanwhile, over dinner, ryan was pouncing around on my FATBOY which was all sprawled on the floor with the red hippo bolster we bought for him and well, a variety of MY stuff toys all over the floor.

(i never will quite get used to boys playing with stuffed toys. Dan says it's perfectly normal but well, if i had a boy, i wouldn't pass him stuffed toys. *shrug* Just me i guess. )

So yeah, it was a pretty long night for us but at least, our house is nice and neat and presentable :) (with the exception of the YELLOW ROOM which has all the rubbish in it now :P

cross-posted in livejournal...Getting Out of Denial

I have to start enjoying the pregnancy, mentally and emotionally.

I've gotta switch my interests, hobbies and stop yearning to be what i used to be....at least for now.

I've resigned to the fact that i'm officially domesticated and visiting a huge number of cooking blogs, wokking mums, chow blogs etc.

People change, and I have to change with the demands of my life now.

Maybe it ain't so bad to be a mummy person...just different....and i"m just realizing that it's totally not what I thought I'd be...but hey...what else did i expect!? Honestly...i've been in denial abit though i'm going through the motions and trying to the best i can. I must say we (Dan & I) do a pretty ok job on our own cuz if we didn't, i know MY parents would have a lot to say - eg how dirty or how dusty or how lazy we are etc. But so far, other than a few occasional bottlenecks in our laundry or mopping schedules, and the messy state of the 2 un-used and un-furnished rooms, I have to be quite content that the house is still quite in order.

Of course the parents still nag...cuz no one's perfect right? I mean, they dun nag per se, but they give constructive comments and the best thing about my mum? She comes in, goes through the whole storeroom and packs it in an hour. Everything is grouped in some other or another and u see more space literally. I also have to mention that half the things in there were brought in by her - so she knows what's in what bag better than i do!

I'm not the most organized nor the messiest person around....but i wish i had her packing skills. She's very fast and very efficient. And that's something i've always aimed in life - to be efficient. Not just to get it done, but get it done WELL and get it done with some degree of haste cuz there is always MORE to do and there is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS a BETTER way to do it. I think with this general mentality in life, you feel more fulfilled and accomplished.

Of course it is really tiring to be like that...and somewhat slightly stressful. but it would definitely be more rewarding than just tortoising around all the time.

The road is long...and it seems, that life has only just begun.

i've posted something in my LJ...but thought i'd update this long-forsaken place.

This collage was inspired by my yearning to be "me" again. Perhaps in a huge and internal way, i haven't quite embraced my changes. I've always seen myself as a relatively active person. Not like marathon-fit, but someone who loves activity, outings and basically doing things.

Now my lifestyle is [5 x (work-home)]-church-home. I get to see my cats like, 2-3 times a week when i'm lucky.

Last night i had trouble sleeping - despite being really tired. And something popped into my head at 2am in the morning - i visualized my daddy feeding the cats, mopping the floor, preparing fish, driving to my bro's/my place, fetching mum. I visualized mummy shopping for clothes for me (she works in Suntec - where there's plenty of shops), preparing dinner for me, fussing over my things, unpacking and packing things for me etc.

I wonder where they get all the drive and energy...to tirelessly do and do and do and do, even after 30-40 years. Isn't it amazing? From day 1 till now, they have never stopped. They have never uttered "i don't feel like...." or "today no mood lah". Well, maybe once or twice (that i can recall) but heck it, once or twice in 30 years is some mean feat! Here I am, complaining and complaining, whining and groaning, blah blah blah.

I should get my arse moving, change my lifestyle abit. Put more challenges and believe that things wil go well. Believe I can do more...instead of feeling tired all the time.

It's all to do with perspective. Instead of thinking "huh..still have to do this, still have to do that...", I should think "i'm looking forward to complete this."
